Objective:

The objective of this paper is to write a more detailed analysis piece reflecting on the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention & Control Act of 1970. I am asking for four sections and will be looking to see that you answered each of the four sections:

In the first section, please explain the general policy. Give some background and context to:
What is the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention & Control Act of 1970?
What is included (education, schedule, laws regarding illicit drug use, etc)?
What is the Scheduling System?  (i.e. what is the criteria for determining classification of specific substances, explaining the general schedules within the system, and who is responsible for determining the schedule).
In the second section, please explain more about each schedule (1-5) and give examples of a few substances in each schedule. Please state whether there would be any changes that you would make to the the substances currently listed in that category and provide justification for keeping it the same or making a change.
If you suggest to make changes, please also tell me where you would move each substance you propose to change to.
In the third section (can be integrated into the second section) please briefly discuss where you would place tobacco and alcohol within the schedule of drugs based upon the current classification criteria. Explain why you would place each of them in their locations using that criteria and some of the effects of the substances.
In the last section, please summarize your piece and state your conclusive recommendation. Your recommendation states:
Do you think that the current drug policy is appropriate or should it be changed? Please support this perspective as well as other statements made throughout the piece with references to the text, films, discussions, as well as potential secondary sources.
Formatting and Citation:

This written paper should:

Follow the basic rules of APA style (i.e., 12-point Times New Roman font, 1″ margins, double spaced). You do not need a title page.
If you would like a guide, Purdue publishes a pretty good website about this: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask me (in a reasonable timeframe); I’m happy to help.
It is crucial to appropriately cite your sources for this paper. Use of direct quotes or general info from specific sources (e.g. the textbook, the DEA website, news articles, etc) need to have citations in APA Format.
You also need a reference (i.e., works cited) page at the end of your paper – which does NOT count in your page count. A few helpful guides:
In-Text Citation: https://bowvalleycollege.libguides.com/apa-style/citation
Reference List at End: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/reference_list_author_authors.html
Again, I know APA citation can be difficult – please reach out with questions. When in doubt, cite!
It should be 4-7 pages in length (reference page does not count as part of the 4-7). Points may be deducted for incorrect formatting and inappropriate length. You should be able to fill at least 4 pages, and have your points adequately made within 7.
