Given the importance of transportation security and your study of homeland security and CI protection in the United States, students will conduct research and write a consolidated, thematic essay analyzing the following two (2) issues related to transportation security:

Describe how the Aviation and Transportation Security Act of 2001 and the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 worked together to develop aviation and maritime security programs for United States airports and seaports.
Do increased security inspections at airports and seaports result in reducing risks of criminal and terrorist behavior at US airports and seaports? Are the additional costs worth spending if they negatively impact US business and commerce?

You must base and support your assessment of the issues and recommendations on external research, the course textbook, and supplemental course materials. Your external research must be reliable and authoritative, preferably from peer-reviewed (refereed) publications. You must include a minimum of five (5) course-external references.

The final report must provide complete and equitable treatment of both issues. Address the 2 issues in a consolidated way, making linkages between the issues where appropriate and logical.

The purpose of this assignment is to apply managerial accounting concepts and practices and use financial data to make business decisions.

Throughout the course, you have used the annual report from a Fortune 500 company to apply financial accounting concepts, including analysis of income statements and balance sheets, to evaluate the profitability and overall financial position of the company.

For this assignment, consider the research and analysis from prior assignments and apply the “Conceptual Framework for Managerial Costing,” as discussed in the topic materials. Follow the process outlined in the “Where to Start” section of this topic resource. Assume the company is considering making a change, such as adding a new product or entering new markets. Your task is to determine what the “change” could be and the steps that would need to be taken in the decision-making process.

In a 250-500 word memo to the chief operating officer (COO) of the company, address the following.

1.Summarize the proposed change the company is considering.
2.Discuss the specific information that must be collected to perform the analysis on the proposed change.
3.Discuss the scope of the analysis and what parameters will be used to determine whether the proposed change should be made.

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

This should be 3 double-spaced pages with a 12-point font. Chapter 2 of The Extraordinary Leader is very important.

Grading for this assignment is as follows:

Using the template, adhering to the page limits, and filling out each section 20%
Understanding how Dave Palmer is thinking about the organization and what the organization needs to be successful 20%

Using the four guidelines for effective ethics management discussed in the article Managing to Be Ethical, what advice would you give Miami as to how they could minimize the likelihood of academic misconduct?

Surface level responses will not be acceptable. The responses should serve as evidence that you have thought seriously about the question and topic. Many of the questions will ask you to apply a concept from your reading. Your responses should reflect that you have done your studying and reading before attempting to answer the question. While there are not necessarily right or wrong answers to these questions, your response should clearly reflect that you have completed your reading and have given critical consideration to the question being posed.

It is your responsibility to complete and submit these assignments by the due date and time. CRQ responses will be evaluated for quality and depth of response. Please read these guidelines carefullythey detail the expectations for the CRQs:

Your responses to these questions should be approximately two typed pages (12 pt font, single spaced). Your responses should be submitted on Canvas by 11:59 pm on the due date. The short length should not be confused with lack of depth. It is more challenging to write in a focused, direct manner.

Evaluation: The CRQ responses will be based on the following method:

Each response will be given a score out of 10 points, dependent on quality. Entries that are merely an opinion or experience not supported or connected to the readings, or entries that suggest the reading has not be done will not be eligible for a score higher than a 6. Management and leadership is a scientific field, and while there is a place for opinion, the purpose of these responses is to compose responses based on a combination of reading, research, and your own assessment. To receive a score of 7/10, at minimum the response must show a knowledge of the assigned reading. To earn an above average score (8-10), you must demonstrate critical thinking about the question that is reflective of understanding the readings, but also being able to assess and integrate them in a meaningful and insightful way.
