Write a biographical essay on one of the physicists listed below. Your biography must include a description of the significant contribution to science made by the physicist you selected.

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943)

Among his contributions, Nikola Tesla is best known for creating and developing the first Alternating Current (AC) system.

Stephen Hawking (1942 – 2018)

Hawking is best known for proving the existence of black holes through his theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, often called Hawking radiation. In his work with Roger Penrose, he is also known for the set  of gravitational singularity theorems which supported Einstein’s theory of general relativity.

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)

Galileo is known for his experiments and theories in the field of bodies in motion which demonstrated the relationship between astronomy and physics. His work in astronomy, mathematics, and physics and the combination of these sciences became instrumental in the study and understanding of the universe beyond us.

Paper 1 requires you to review a judicial decision in an environmental law case (read the actual case decision written by the judge, not an article analysis or summary). If you are an environmental professional, you may want to write about a decision that is relevant to the work of your business or agency, or, you may choose a decision about an issue that interests you.  The decision may be from either a state or federal Court (for example, the Colorado Supreme Court, U.S. District Court, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, or the U.S. Supreme Court). You must include the full name and citation of the case in your references so that I can retrieve the full case opinion.

Write this paper as if you are an environmental professional in a company, government agency, or nonprofit group, and your supervisor has asked you to prepare a written synopsis of a case that affects your business, agency, or organization.

The written synopsis can be only four pages max (not including references page), must follow the Assignment Format in the Syllabus (for header, page numbers, etc.), and should include the following information:

A concise description of the issues presented in the case, including identification of the parties and a summary of the main arguments raised by the plaintiff and defendant.
A discussion of the analysis the court applied in reaching the decision: discuss the environmental laws they interpreted and the facts the court found significant.
Identify the major findings or decision(s) reached by the court (including any concurring or dissent opinions).
Finally, briefly describe the effect the decision may have upon the practicing environmental community (managers, scientists, advocates, citizens, etc.). This is why this case is relevant to your hypothetical audience receiving the memo: your employer. [This will not be in the case opinion, but your own personal analysis and writing].
The attached is a page of research tips that also includes a video link explaining how to search and find actual case opinions that is highly recommended to help you complete your paper:  Case law research tips.pdf

There are many meteorological (natural) events affecting the behavior of air pollutants.
Describe two conditions that produce or enhance air pollution events. Please cite specific instances. There are also conditions that help to disperse air pollutants.
Describe two of these conditions and how they affect the environmental fate of chemicals.

Climate change is a major topic of environmental sustainability. What does climate change mean to you? Profile your community by comparing and contrasting it with another community (anywhere in the world) by considering the potential impacts of climate change on these two communities. Discuss the potential impact of an average annual temperature increase of 2C on each community What would be the potential impact if the average annual temperature increased by 4C? What are possible mitigations and adaptations to climate change in each area?

LHC is the most powerful particle accelerator in the world and it’s located in CERN on the France-Swiss border.

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter the fundamental particles.

Go to the CERN website and watch the video about CERN and scroll down the page and click on “the birth of the WEB” link.

Answer the following questions:

    What is CERN?
    What is the LHC?
When and where the World Wide Web was created?
Mention three topics that you found in this website that related to this physics course.

If you want to know more about the LHC you can find in Neflix “Particle Fiber” a video with the history of this experiment.

Keywords search terms: earthquake formation, P wave, S wave, tsunami, earthquake travel, analyzing earthquakes.essay should do the following things:
discuss how the different types of waves are formed and describe how the waves travel
explain how scientists use waves to track and analyze earthquakes
cover recent events involving earthquakes and/or tsunamis that illustrate the points made in your explanation

1. Perception.
Based on your own experiences and observations, discuss the demographics of the community/neighborhood you consider home, in this case VENEZUELA . Include a couple of sentences describing what you like most and what you like least.

2. Reality Check
Now, look at data provided by the LA Times Neighborhood project (http://maps.latimes.com/neighborhoods/) and evaluate how your community compares to California and USA (http://www.census.gov/). Create a simple table or chart summarizing racial/ethnic background, median income, educational attainment, and one more (your choice) then answer the following:
Are some racial groups over represented or under-represented in your community?
Are income figures below or above the national median?
What are the differences in educational attainment?
How different were your perceptions from the census-based data reality check?
(For the census data, go to Quick Facts, on the main census web page, and follow the prompts to select CA and click on Go.  You should get quick facts for both CA and US.  You can also select the USA Quick Facts tab at the top of that page which will get you the quick facts for the whole country.)

Water (both running and ground) is a resource that is becoming more and more important as population grows, and as the climate continues to change.

As such, it’s important for everyone to be informed, and the internet can be really helpful here.

For your discussion this week you need to find three scientists on Twitter that are reliable sources of information about water issues.  For your initial post I would like you to share their Twitter handles, along with a one sentence summary of who they are/what they do.

Please note that I specify reliable.  This means they must be scientists working in a water-related field, and actually tweeting about it.  To help with this, please check out this webpage (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. on evaluating sources (click to follow link (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.).

MOVIE DISCUSSION BOARD:  “CHASING CORAL”

Welcome to the Chasing Coral assignment!  Coral is one of the most interesting and complex animals on the planet. Coral reefs are colonies of coral polyps and are home to more than 25% of the ocean species.  They are considered the Rain-forests of the Sea and are central to the ecosystems of the oceans. It is possible that we will lose coral reefs due to warming oceans within our lifetime so it is important to learn as much as we can about them and perhaps we can find a way to save them.

Please do not attempt to answer the questions if you do not watch the movie.  Also, it is good to describe specific items from  the movie in your responses as this helps to show what you learned from watching the movie.

1.  INTRODUCTION  (2 pts)

How much do you know about coral before the movie?  Have you been able to see and experience coral in the ocean, if so describe your experiences!

2.  THE DYING CORAL  (2 pts)

Describe the stages of what happens to coral as the oceans warm. Try to put this into words like you are describing this to a friend.

3.  IMPACTS TO THE WORLD  (4 pts)

Current studies show that greater than 99% of the coral is expected to be lost if we reach 2 degree C global temperature rise. (See IPCC reference below and note they use “very high confidence” for this statement.)

Describe the different ways it would impact the world if we lost the coral.  (50-100 words minimum)

4.  DISCUSSION WITH OTHERS  (4 pts)

Discuss what you have learned about coral with a friend or family member who is not familiar with coral reefs.  This is such an important issue, it is good for everybody to be familiar with it.  How did the conversation go?!  (50-100 words minimum)

Question 1
What two main factors make an air pollutant emitted indoors usually much more serious from a health standpoint than when the same quantity of pollutant is emitted outdoors?

Question 2
Explain why the definition of exposure presented in this chapter can apply to both human and nonhuman species plants and animals and even to inanimate objects, such as buildings. Give several examples of nonhuman targets besides those mentioned in this chapter.

Question 3:
Suppose a woman takes a multi-vitamin pill containing 10 mg of zinc. The volume of the pill is 200 mm^33. What is the exposure concentration of zinc in mg/mm^3 and in mg/m^3? Please show all work.
