tudents writing the paper project should note the following rules:
This will be a 1500 – 3000 word research paper.
The topic will be chosen by the student from a provided list. The total paper will consist of 1500 – 3000 words in a double-spaced pages plus the bibliography page, with 1-inch margins and printed in Courier 10 point font.
The papers will argue either for or against the topic in a factual and scholarly manner. The paper must reference a minimum of either one primary source and two secondary sources or four secondary sources with at least one quotation from each work as part of the paper. A primary source is defined as a work written by someone who was alive during the events in question and (preferably) witnessed the events. A secondary work, on the other hand, is written by a historian who has studied the period in question.
The paper will be graded upon clarity of topic, appropriate use of quotations from sources, and the student’s understanding of the subject and the various arguments for and against the topic. The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS)  is recommended for use in preparing the paper, but only glaring errors of the CMS will affect the student’s grade. However, clarity is vital for all citations or the paper will be penalized.
The full paper will then be submitted by the second deadline near the end of the term. The entire paper will then be given a final grade and posted to the grade section of the course.
