About me
As a seasoned Kaiser Permanente employee, I have a history that runs deep within the organization. For 19 years. I am a pharmacy technician at Montebello and a Union Steward. It started in Baldwin Park, California, where I participated in the Kaiser Summer Youth Program while still in high school, embodying the strong work ethic that I was thought and believed in. After high school, I attended the California State University of Long Beach and received my Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts in performance acting. After graduation, I submerge myself with healthcare leaders to have a better understanding of the industry, which I decided to further my education and obtain a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Southern California from the Sol Price School of Public Policy.

I have been involved in pharmacy in various locations and had demonstrated an understanding of how the pharmacy world operates. I understand how to budget the pharmacy inventory and family practice clinic orders. As the role model of the pharmacy, management has given me the responsibility to pre-audit the pharmacy and family clinics. I do this by checking to see if the facility is following rules and regulations that follow state laws.

Also, I am a UBT member (unit-based team) as well as a Union Steward for Kaiser in the Baldwin Park area. As a UBT member, my role is to improve care for the department and our members. As a pharmacy tech, I am on the front line inpatient care.  I see and hear patients concerns about how to improve their experience at the pharmacy. Also, I am a Union Steward. I work closely with our Union Rep to ensure they demonstrate reliable and ethical practices following union rules and labor laws while working with both management and non-management employees.

Using the file below to answers those three questions ( can be short answers or bubble point because this is just a outline)

1) Situation: what is the situation in the case? What is the case about? Why was the case written? What is the business problem/problems that are in the case?

2) Competition: who are the competitors named in the case? If there are other competitors that you think should be included, name them and tell me why you think they should be in the case.

3) Problems/ Situations/Analysis

At least 3 Problems / Situations/Analysis are presented in this case.(below) These are the most important part of the case as they represent your practice of critical thinking.

In some cases, like Dominos, there are many problems. You come up with the solutions that are realistic.

If you think they should have done something different, then please talk about that in the outline.

Second, gain some insight into the so-called, Black-Korean Conflict via a description of Michael Chos film, ANOTHER AMERICA
How did the idea for Another America begin?

The genesis of the project started in early 1992, before the riots. Around that time a few events took place which brought Black-Korean relations to the forefront. In Los Angeles, a Korean merchant shot and killed an African American teenager whom she accused of shoplifting. There was a fight that broke out between the two, and the Korean merchant killed this girl. The woman was convicted of murder, but sentenced only to parole. So that created a lot of outrage in the African American community. There was a lot being said about Black-Korean tensions. But I didn’t understand what that meant. When I was growing up, my father had a business and still has a business in the African American community in Detroit. He has been in the African American community for over thirty years.

So as I was growing up, I never saw anything of what the media called a “Black-Korean conflict.” My parents got along fine with their customers, especially my mother who was extremely friendly. I felt that the media didn’t know these communities and that they were in some ways creating a problem.

In January of 1992, I had an uncle who was murdered during a robbery at his store. His business was located in downtown Detroit, across from my father’s store. I felt that his death pointed to the deterioration and abandonment of the inner city, more so than to any inter-ethnic tension. The boy that killed him is African American, but no one in the family thinks of my uncle’s death as a racial issue since everyone that they come in contact with in their stores is African American.

The Langston Hughes African American Film Festival Underground Railroad Film Series presents ANOTHER AMERICA by Michael Cho

Filmmaker Michael Cho investigates his own family history and tragedy as he explores the Black/Korean conflict in the inner city as illuminated by the Los Angeles uprisings of 1992.

“In Another America, a documentary that I produced about the relationship between Korean American merchants and African Americans in the inner city, I looked at the murder of one of my uncles, an immigrant from Korea, during a robbery at his store in downtown Detroit. When he was murdered, my father, also a downtown merchant, called the local television news stations to have them cover my uncle’s death. He wanted to tell them a larger story about how the city had fallen apart under the weight of its abandonment and how this was connected to my uncle’s murder. Instead, the TV news programs told a tragic story of a family victimized by a random crime. The emotions were there in their report, but little context. Their coverage undoubtedly moved many who watched the news that night. But did it inform them?

Please write a statement of about 100-200 words.

Description:

Each student will choose a hotel or resort and write a 4-6 page double spaced report on the facilities management implications that might be considered with this specific business. Please confirm your selection with the instructor before writing your assignment.

The paper is expected to discuss the facilities management implications that might impact the operations, maintenance or service of the hotel or resort. The discussion should identify the issues as well as present the types of impact that you might expect or consider with each issue.  In this discussion you could take several approaches, which could include how best to address a maintenance issue or limitation, or discuss best practices for that specific issue.

Students are welcome to use hotels which they have worked at, or are familiar with.

The minimum material from our text which is expected to be covered is Chapters 1-7. The paper will be expected to consider at least 3 different considerations for your chosen hotel or business. The paper is expected, as a minimum, to consider 2 sources for each consideration.  Sources can include: peer reviewed academic journals in this field, trade publications, and credible news media articles.  If you are unsure of whether a source should be considered, please contact me in advance of completion of the paper.

Consider and discuss how any of these would impact: maintenance of building, service related impacts from a staff or guest perspective, impacts on costs, impacts on sustainability/green, or any other facilities related impact.

Examples of these could include (examples of each will be discussed in classes 1 and 2):

  • Age of property
  • Location of property
  • Style and services offered by the property
  • Height of building
  • Size of property
  • Amenities & services offered by the property
  • Unique features of the property and how that would impact facilities.

Sample Format

–          Introduction

o   Provide an introduction to the hotel or resort property including any relevant property information.   The sample provided in class identified the unique location of the hotel, and several introductory elements to the hotel that would be spoken to later in the report. The sample report introduction was nearly one page long, about 2-3 paragraphs.

–          Facility Issue/Consideration  #1

o   The sample report highlighted the isolated location of the resort, the seasonality of the location, and the impact on transportation to the area as a result of the isolated location. The consideration also had discussion about other hotels which had this same characteristic and how the other hotel dealt with that facility challenge.

–          Facility Issue #2

o   The second topic addressed the lack of available employees as an operating challenge for this hotel. The hotel is located in a very small town that has limited housing and is highly seasonal becoming very popular in the tourist summer season. Strategies on how to address this were discussed with comparable properties being used as references. The paper also discussed technology advances which might assist with this aspect of HR planning and operations.

–          Facility Issues #3

o   The third consideration that was discussed was the facility location itself, which being an oceanfront hotel presents both positive and negative facility challenges. The positive results would be how the hotel can use the beautiful ocean views within their operations now and in to the future, and the negative impacts would be discussion around the impacts of being oceanfront and the weather impact of a location like this.

–          Conclusion

o   Conclusion summarized the discussion above in approximately page

  • Trade publications,
