Choose an organization according to the following:

Current employer

Most recent or former employer

Place of business that you have patronized or have been familiar with over a long period of time.

Avoid choosing an organization that is so large that historical data would be difficult to apply. Firms in the Russell 2000 index may fit well, whereas firms in the Dow 30 Industrial index probably do not.

The organization can be a start-up that you or a significant other may create in the future. For a start-up, focus on an entrepreneurial idea that is of substantive interest, so this project leaves you with a product you may leverage in the future.

Write a 1,100-word paper in which you address the following:

Identify the major components of the strategic management process.

Discuss how these components work together to create value for the organization.

Evaluate the company’s mission statement, vision statement, motivation strategy, innovation strategy, and people strategy. If the organization does not have one or more of these, how does that affect the organization and its people?

Explain the role of ethics and corporate social responsibility in strategic planning. How does this direct their strategy? How do the organization’s vision and mission align with your own values and vision? If you are currently working for the organization, how does your role influence this and vice versa?

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Hello. Its almost the start time for 165D and I am thinking of you. Let’s hope we can see each other in person soon.

I have been in consultation with Digital Scholarship Commons in McHenry Library where the media collection is, and the manager and staff are working to maintain their regular hours (see below) during the strike activity. Therefore, BETTER LUCK TOMORROW has been put on reserve for you to see there.

Instructions:

Please view BETTER LUCK TOMORROW, directed by Justin Lin (if you want to watch the film via another method than going to the library, please feel free).
A suggestion is for you to watch the dvd in a group ~ for efficiency and for fun ~ there currently are open viewing rooms at Digital Scholarship Commons you can book with friends:  https://calendar.library.ucsc.edu/booking/mchmc
Take Notes.
Consider the Discussion Questions listed on the attached pdf.
Read what Robert Ebert wrote about BETTER LUCK TOMORROW.
Please read famed film critic, Roger Eberts essay, about the controversial screening of BETTER LUCK TOMORROW at the Sundance Film Festival, which was captured in the short film you viewed last week, BLT: GENESIS. You can also read his review of BETTER LUCK TOMORROW. Please know that (like Pauline Kael and Andrew Sarris before him and perhaps Elvis Mitchell after him ~ google them!), Roger Ebert has been one of the most influential people in film culture. He was not only a journalist as well as co-host of a television series which brought film criticism to a mass audience, he became an advocate for independent filmmaking by people of color in particular. He was an incisive writer and a thoughtful humanitarian. Rogert Ebert sadly passed away in 2013, his wife, Chaz Ebert, continues his work and website.

Excerpt:

Amoral, yes. Shockingly. He seems to exist in a world of achievement and ambition that operates entirely apart from moral values. Another audience member drew a parallel with Enron executives who apparently concealed the fact that their numbers didn’t add up. Justin Lin said he senses a moral disconnect in some of today’s teenagers and wanted to make a movie about it. His cast was all Asian-American because–well, why not?

Excerpts:

“Better Luck Tomorrow” is a coming-of-age film for Asian Americans in American cinema. Like African-American films that take race for granted and get on with the characters and the story, Lin is making a movie where race is not the point but simply the given. After Ben joins the basketball team, a writer for the high school paper suggests he is the “token Asian” bench-warmer, and when students form a cheering section for him, he quits the team in disgust. He is not a token anything (and privately knows he has beaten the NBA record for free throws).

The story is insidious in the way it moves stealthily into darker waters while maintaining the surface of a high school comedy. There are jokes and the usual romantic breakthroughs and reversals, and the progress of their criminal career seems unplanned and offhand, until it turns dangerous. I will not reveal the names of the key characters in the climactic scene, but note carefully what happens in terms of the story; perhaps the film is revealing that a bland exterior can hide seething resentment.

Justin Lin, who directed, co-wrote and co-produced, here reveals himself as a skilled and sure director, a rising star. His film looks as glossy and expensive as a megamillion studio production, and the fact that its budget was limited means that his cinematographer, Patrice Lucien Cochet; his art director, Yoo Jung Han, and the other members of his crew were very able and resourceful. It’s one thing to get an expensive look with money and another thing to get it with talent.

Lin keeps a sure hand on tricky material; he has obvious confidence about where he wants to go and how he wants to get there. His film is uncompromising and doesn’t chicken out with a U-turn ending.

..

I want to know what you think of the ending! You have until the end of the week to view BETTER LUCK TOMORROW, at a time that is convenient for you. Please let me know if you have any questions:  [email protected]

Sincerely, Professor Kim

Is there a difference between common practice and best practice?

When you first went to work for your current organization, experienced colleagues may have shared with you details about processes and procedures. Perhaps you even attended an orientation session to brief you on these matters. As a rookie, you likely kept the nature of your questions to those with answers that would best help you perform your new role.

Over time and with experience, perhaps you recognized aspects of these processes and procedures that you wanted to question further. This is the realm of clinical inquiry.

Clinical inquiry is the practice of asking questions about clinical practice. To continuously improve patient care, all nurses should consistently use clinical inquiry to question why they are doing something the way they are doing it. Do they know why it is done this way, or is it just because we have always done it this way? Is it a common practice or a best practice?

In this Assignment, you will identify clinical areas of interest and inquiry and practice searching for research in support of maintaining or changing these practices. You will also analyze this research to compare research methodologies employed.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
  • Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least four different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.
  • Review the results of your peer-reviewed research and reflect on the process of using an unfiltered database to search for peer-reviewed research.
  • Reflect on the types of research methodologies contained in the four relevant peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Part 1: An Introduction to Clinical Inquiry

Create a 4- to 5-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

  • Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.
  • Describe how you used keywords to search on your chosen clinical issue of interest.
  • Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
  • Provide APA citations of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Part 2: Identifying Research Methodologies

After reading each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, use the Matrix Worksheet template to analyze the methodologies applied in each of the four peer-reviewed articles. Your analysis should include the following:

  • The full citation of each peer-reviewed article in APA format.
  • A brief (1-paragraph) statement explaining why you chose this peer-reviewed article and/or how it relates to your clinical issue of interest, including a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest.
  • A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article.
  • A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the research methodology used. Be sure to identify if the methodology used was qualitative, quantitative, or a mixed-methods approach. Be specific.
  • A brief (1- to 2-paragraph) description of the strengths of each of the research methodologies used, including reliability and validity of how the methodology was applied in each of the peer-reviewed articles you selected.

By Day 7 of Week 3

Submit Part 1 and Part 2 of your Evidence-Based Project.

Note: Part 1 is a 4-5 slide PowerPoint and Part 2 is the Matrix. Be sure to attach both of your documents (Part 1 and Part 2) before you click Submit.

Introduction

Force Field Theory Analysis

Lewin’s force field analysis is a tool for distinguishing factors or forces that influence an individual towards or away from a desired outcome (or change). The forces that aid in making decisions that will make change more acceptable can be analyzed. Forces are more than attitudes to change. Peoples emotional state can prevent them from accepting change, therefore we need to understand factors that are related to their values or experiences that contribute to resistance. Force field analysis helps us to analyze a condition and then plan corrective actions.

There will be two discussion questions listed below. By the due date assigned, respond to one of the discussion questions and submit your response to the Discussion Area. Your initial posting should be addressed at 5001000 words. Use the lessons and vocabulary found in the reading. Support your answers with examples and research and cite your sources using APA format.

Tasks

In 2012, Yahoos new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) implemented a change for employees who were working from home to stop the practice and required them to commute to the office. The change in culture was driven by the desire to improve innovation through human interaction. The organizational change now requires employees who work from home to work in the office.

Discussion Question 1:

What are the main driving and restraining forces involved in making this organizational change at Yahoo?

Discussion Question 2:

What resources would Yahoo need to manage this change and how will they will help to implement action steps?

Hint: Sometimes it’s easier to reduce the impact of restraining forces than it is to strengthen driving forces.
