Chapter 2 walks us through the interplay between law and ethics.  Chapter 3 shows us an overview of the judicial system in both the federal government and the states.  As you will learn with your online engagement with Chapter 3 , alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods provide an efficient and cost-saving forum for businesses to resolve legal problems that may arise.

For your first discussion topic of the semester, think about a business model that interests you and write about two distinct matters: first, what are some of the ethical considerations of starting and running such a business?  Second, how would that business type use one or more ADR methods discussed at the end of Chapter 3?  In answering both of the questions, use as many relevant concepts from these two chapters as you think necessary.  For example, what values or aspects of the WH framework would apply most directly with stakeholders of your business?  With respect to ADR possibilities, would informal negotiations be adequate with your business clients and other stakeholders?  If not, what would necessitate, perhaps, mediation or arbitration?  Would one of the lesser explored ADR forms work better (e.g., the minitrial or early neutral case evaluation)?

Write three brief paragraphs – In the first paragraph, present (1) your business idea (it could be anything that interests you – selling some particular product, creating an enhancement to an existing product or service, etc.).  In the second paragraph, describe the ethical considerations surrounding your proposed business, and in the third paragraph, select one or two specific ADR types most suitable to this business type and describe how they would be used to best resolve the problems presented.
