he terms worldview and philosophy may be confusing, because they are often used interchangeably.  Difference Between gives a simple overview of each.  This explanation may help clarify the concepts.  In addition, philosophy is used in two distinct ways; as a unique discipline and as a set of beliefs of a separate discipline for example nursing.  For a discipline, philosophies represent its beliefs and values and its mindset or worldview.  Nursing philosophy is a statement of foundational and universal assumptions, beliefs, and principles about the nature of knowledge and truth (epistemology) (Reed, 1995).  Whall (2005) defines theory as a group of concepts interrelated via propositional statements which are based upon a group of underlying assumptions (p. 5).  You will find a succinct overview of these concepts at Nursing theories and a philosophy of nursing.  Meleis (2018) discusses the various properties of grand, middle-range, and situation specific theories for your review.
