This essay is written by a woman who was born with a birth defect that could have been caused by a gene mutation that results in the same defects as thalidomide. Thalidomide is a drug that was prescribed to pregnant women between 1958 and 1962 to reduce the effects of morning sickness, but resulted in thousands of children born with malformed limbs because the drug affected the growth of new blood vessels. We dont know if she has a new gene mutation or was exposed to thalidomide in utero.

Think about it as long as you like (but the deadline is 10/4) and write one paragraph to one page (200-500 words (remember, the essay itself is <500 words!))

You will get credit for adequately:

2) demonstrating a passing familiarity with (a) the concept(s) covered in class- not only mention the topic(s), but define it/them and link it/them to the essay (paragraph 2),
