In General Dempseys White Paper, America’s Military-A Profession of Arms, he asserts that the men and women of the Armed Forces must be held to higher moral and ethical standards compared to the U.S. society as a whole. General Dempsey wrote that, [W]e must continue to uphold the values that underpin our profession to maintain and enhance the trust of those we serve, our civilian leaders in government, and the American people. How will you uphold the values he calls our calling cards (duty, honor, courage, integrity, and selfless service)?
