General Format for Journal Article Summary

    Top of the page: Your name and the Bibliographic Information (Please refer to APA format examples).

    Paragraph 1-Introduction: 1-3 sentences to give the necessary background and purpose of the study.

    Paragraph 2-Procedures: Specifics of the study including subjects and methods used in the study.  Include what the subjects did, under what kind of conditions or controls, for what duration of time, what variables were being was measured and what was being compared (if applicable).

    Paragraph 3- Findings: Discuss the results of the study.  Include any noted significant findings by the author.

    Paragraph 4- Conclusions: Summarize the outcome of the study.

    Paragraph 5- Personal Comments/Critique: Specify what was done well in the study and any recommendations for improvement.  Include what you learned from the study and if the research was valuable/useful/practical.

Your article summary should be a minimum of 1 page double spaced and in your own words.  Any information you include which is directly from the article word for word must be in quotation marks.  Please limit direct quotes to two sentences only.
