Public Health Threat: Measles Outbreak

Background: Nationwide, 667 people have contracted measles in 21 states, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There have been 383 cases so far in your state in 2018.

Your Role: You are a health educator at the state level Department of Health.

Scenario: The potential to have infectious diseases spread is substantial if there are enough people who are not vaccinated. There has been a significant increase in the number of measles cases this year. You have been asked to educate the community about the outbreak as well as means for prevention. The best prevention of measles is vaccination. Vaccinations are available to protect individuals and the measles vaccine is highly effective.

  1. Define and support your target audience, and be sure to specify if there will be more than one targeted audience
  2. Define the specific message you will relay to your audience(s)
  3. Explain how, specifically, you will convey this message to your audience(s), including actions to be undertaken and personnel involved
  4. Discuss at least two ways that you could use social media as a means for reaching your audience(s)

Purpose:

The goal of this Assignment is to observe an ‘archaeological site’ as an anthropologist would. The student will analyze their observations in terms of themes from the subfield of archaeology such as how it helps frame our understanding of how we can learn more about the human past by studying and interpreting material culture.

Description:

Motel of the Mysteries is a well-known book among archaeologists (see basic description in Smith, 2009).  This humorous (now sadly out of print) book takes a look at how an archaeologist of the future might look at a late 20th century roadside motel.  While our artifacts make sense to us, how might they preserve and be interpreted by future archaeologists?  In this Assignment we will explore this idea.

Directions for 4-6 page Assignment:

Choose one room of your home or a specific place in your community (playground, parking lot, restaurant).  Visit and observe the site for 10-15 minutes.
Map (photos, hand drawn and scanned, digitally created map) the site and describe the physical characteristics of the site.
Collect and document artifacts.  Describe the artifacts noting color, shape, weight, texture, quantity, material, and other features you think are important.  Be objective as you examine the site, remember not to mention what it is in today’s terms, but pretend you have do not recognize or have knowledge of the artifacts and site
Using your imagination, what are some other purposes the artifacts and site might have?  What conclusions can you draw about the origin of the artifacts, their use, and the purpose of the site?
Using our course materials, what type of archaeological tools and methods would you want to use to help you interpret your artifacts and site?
Reflect on some of the challenges archaeologists face in piecing together the past.
Cite at least one of our course materials in your paper.  This typically works best in steps 5 and/or 6.

Comments from assigner:
In problem 1, the mean is incorrect.  Same thing happened with the variance, You had the wrong mean so each calculation in that table ended up being off.  Each calculation needs to be verified..

February 25: $4,598
February 26: $4,873
February 27: $9,976
February 28: $5,878

The median is $4057.5
$1123, $2149, $2198, $3098, $3098, $3099, $3106, $3123, $3198, $3209, $3309, $3987, $4128, $4598, $4598, $4694, $4873, $5878, $5954, $5980, $6531, $7124, $7287, $9876
($3987 + $4128)/2 = $8115/2  = $4057.5
The mean is 4425.75
$1123 + $2149 + $2198 + $3098 + $3098 + $3099 + $3106 + $3123 + $3198 + $3209 + $3309 + $3987 + $4128 + $4598 + $4598 +$4694 + $4873 + $5878 + $5954 + $5980 + $6531 + $7124 + $7287 + $9876 = $106218
$106218/24 = 4425.75
The mode is $3098 and $4598 which both occur twice.
Explain which measure of central tendency is best in this scenario and why.
The mean is the best measure of central tendency owing to the fact that it includes all the values in the data set. Moreover, any alteration in any of the values will lead to a change in the mean.

Question 2:

Standard deviation = sq. root of 162.50 = 12.75
c. Explain standard deviation and how it relates to the data.
The standard deviation measures the dispersion of the dataset. In this case, it is important because it shows how spread out the scores Matt has been getting are..

Question 3:
Bens Average Sales:
Monday $5,099
Tuesday $6,900
Wednesday $0
Thursday $10,500
Friday $9,407
Saturday $9,766
Sunday $0
Is it better for Ben to earn 7.5% based on his average daily sales or a flat $4,000 for the week? Explain the pros and cons of each pay plan.
Add all the average sales
Sum of the sales = $41,672
0.075 41,672 = $3,125.40
Based on the fact that the amount to be earned from the daily sales is lower than the proposed flat salary, I believe that Ben should settle for the $4,000 pay plan. The advantage is that the payment is consistent. However, it may lead to reluctance to work hard to push more sales. On the other hand, the payment based on the daily sales is advantageous because it is based on the daily sales hence the more one sells the higher one gets paid. It may only be limited when the sales drop significantly hence leading to a low payout.

The paper should be no more than 2 paragraphs.  Use APA format.

Case 2: The Wallace Group

Conduct a strategic analysis using the Executive Summary template.   Prepare and submit a three-page executive summary that discusses what  strategic alternatives are available and provide a recommended  strategy.

You are to work alone to analyze and prepare the Executive Summary  for the case.  NOTE: Click “Submit Assignment” in the upper right-hand  corner of your screen to turn in your Executive Summary no later than  Sunday, midnight CT. Name your file with your name and the unit number,  i.e. Jones1 or Brown1. Your file should be in either Microsoft word  (.doc or .docx) or rich text (.rtf) format.

The following information will be required for the Executive Summary.  Preview the documentand the Preview the document These files are required for the unit textbook case studies.

Synopsis of the Case: The content of the synopsis should present relevant background facts about the case under examination.

Relevant Factual Information about the Problem or Decision the Organization Faced: State  the precise problem or decision the organization faced.  The section  should include information that addressed the business issue under  examination. This section should be no longer than a single paragraph.

Explanation of Relevant Concepts, Theories and Applications Derived from Course Materials:  This  section should be the bulk of your paper. Analysis of the business  problem or decision in light of the course concepts must be presented,  as well as the business lesson another organization could learn from  this situation. Besides citation to the text, learners must conduct  research in the University library related to the top. Citing the  textbook only is not enough to demonstrate you understand and can apply  the course objectives. Here is where comparative and contrasting  positions should be considered and examples and illustrations provided.

Recommendations: Provide logical  recommendations to address the business lesson identified above. The  recommendations need not to be specific to the organization examined,  but should consider how other organizations, if similarly situated,  could lessen the impact of the problem or decision identified. Recall,  that the organization under examination has already moved pasted this  problem so any recommendations made, at this point, are fruitless. The  focus of this section should be on what other companies should be aware  of to address similar problems or decisions. Citation to the textbook  alone is insufficient for analysis in this section. Learners should  conduct research in the Universitys library to support their positions.  Depth of scholarship is not demonstrated by providing personal opinions  alone, but by using examples, analogies, comparison and illustrations  from the academic literature. Not only does this synthesize the material  to assist the readers understanding, it is an effective way to present  the academic sources and extend the discussion of your ideas. This  section should be a paragraph or two.

Alternative Recommendations: This section is not a  continuation of the prior. Provide suggestions for how to avoid the  problem or decision the examined organization faced. Analysis here  should be may be forward- thinking, predictive or, most likely,  preventative in nature but tied to the thesis statement. Again, opinion  is insufficient to provide the required academic analysis. Sources,  other than the text, must be provided to sustain the statements made.  This section should be a paragraph, at most.

Conclusion: End the assignment with  a summary of the important points made in the document. No new  information may be presented. Writing a conclusion can be done by  rewording the opening or reformulation the topic sentences of each  paragraph to make a summary for the reader. This section should be a  paragraph, at most.

The interpretation of research in health care is essential to decision making. By understanding research, health care providers can identify risk factors, trends, outcomes for treatment, health care costs and best practices. To be effective in evaluating and interpreting research, the reader must first understand how to interpret the findings. You will practice article analysis in Topics 2, 3, and 5.

For this assignment:

Search the GCU Library and find three different health care articles that use quantitative research. Do not use articles that appear in the Topic Materials or textbook. Complete an article analysis for each using the “Article Analysis 1” template.

Refer to the “Patient Preference and Satisfaction in Hospital-at-Home and Usual Hospital Care for COPD Exacerbations: Results of a Randomised Controlled Trial,” in conjunction with the “Article Analysis Example 1,” for an example of an article analysis.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
