Apply promotion and price Marketing Mix elements to a product or service.

GEL-1.03: Demonstrate college-level communication through the oral delivery of original materials in Standard English.

PC-2.3: Demonstrate integrity through the application of relevant codes of conduct and social responsibility within ones profession.

Promotion and Pricing:

Introduction:

Promotion and pricing of a product or service involve consideration of the strategies as well as how the strategies will be carried out, in line with the organizations values. You have read about promotion and pricing (two of the 4 Ps of the marketing mix) and had an opportunity to review the 4 Ps tutorial. You read about ethics and social responsibility in Chapter 3 and had an opportunity to discuss these topics in the Discussion. In this Assessment, you will apply these concepts to a real-world company scenario. In addition, you will add audio to your presentation that speaks to the audience specified in the scenario. Being able to prepare a professional audiovisual presentation is an important career skill and can be added to your resume once you have become proficient.

Read the scenario below and address all the checklist items.

Scenario:

A startup company, Senuvis is a U.S. pharmaceutical products firm that is growing very rapidly at home and abroad. Integrity and honesty regarding product quality and concern for consumer well-being are values of the founders of the firm.

Recently, Senuvis developed several new products to service customers who cannot afford the pricier life-saving anti-allergen medications and the self-injecting devices currently on the market. These products can be self-injected by the person suffering from a life-threatening allergic reaction and were just recently approved for the marketplace by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

To respond to the projected rapid growth of the firm, they are going to hire an additional 200 employees in the next 2 months to cope with the demand for these new life-saving products. Because the company is hiring so many new employees, they are concerned with maintaining the founders original values of social responsibility while ensuring a quality product.

They are also concerned with promoting and pricing these new products fairly, based on the company values along with their concern for affordability for the middle class in the U.S. and other consumers and client companies abroad.

As a marketing consultant to the president of the company and executive management, address the items pertaining to the promotion and pricing strategy for the companys new products in line with the company founders values and their social responsibility.

Checklist:

Specify what code of conduct the company should institute to make sure that all personnel adhere to the founders values in promoting and pricing the product at home and abroad.
Provide an advertising campaign (using pioneering, competitive, or comparative advertising) for this line of life-saving anti-allergen medications and self-injecting devices using three (3) different types of advertising.
Provide a public relations strategy to promote the new product line while considering the social responsibility involved.
Prepare (one) 1 tool each for consumer sales promotion, personal selling, and social media.
Describe how the AIDA concept stages are to be addressed.
Explain three (3) possible pricing strategies and any discounts, rebates, trade discounts, and/or allowances that would apply for this new line of life-saving products.
Explain how you will determine a profit has been realized based on your pricing objectives.
Your PowerPoint presentation should use Standard English to address the above checklist items and include audio notes below each slide that are clear and concise. There should be no more than one (1) or two (2) short citations with accompanying references in the presentation. Each slide should have no more than four (4) or five (5) bulleted talking points with the accompanying audio notes located below each slide.

For the audio portion use the microphone built into your computer or a microphone headset you purchased. Make sure that the audio portion is clear, speaks to the slides bulleted points, and addresses the specific audience for which it is intended.

Access the MT219M5 Assessment rubric.

Submit the minimum 10-slide PowerPoint presentation with audio and audio notes below each slide and additional title and reference slides (using APA citation and reference style) to the Dropbox.

Disclaimer: This exercise may include actual companies and brand names solely for instructional purposes; this exercise is not associated with any such actual company or brand name. All trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

Minimum Submission Requirements

Your presentation should be the required number of PowerPoint slides as specified with audio and audio notes, and with an additional title slide and reference slide using APA format.
Respond to all of the checklist items in a thorough and highly organized, logical, and focused manner using Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, and grammar, and mechanics.
Your Assessment response should comply with all instructions provided.
Your presentation should provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose. Each slide should have no more than 45 bulleted points and the notes section below each slide should provide detail regarding the bulleted items.
Your presentation should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful. The audio portion should use the notes section to inform the audio presentation that should be clearly understandable.
Be sure to cite both in-text and reference list citations where appropriate and reference all sources using proper APA citation style.

explore the benefits and disadvantages of a wealth of information in the technological age.  How do we evaluate the validity of what is available on the web, and why is it critically important to be selective?

2.) Critical Skills Assignment:  This week your critical skills assignment will teach you how to search for and evaluate research.  You will need to read all supporting materials and watch videos to learn your researching skills.  You will submit a research question from a broad topic of your choosing and include 3 articles available through the University of Mount Olive Library.  You will have a single word document submission with your research question on page 1, and then fill out the questions on the “PROVEN Method” worksheets that cause you to evaluate the strength of your 3 articles.

3.) Writing Assignment:  This week you will take the research question you develop in your critical skills assignment and write the first two paragraphs of a research paper.  You will put your critical skills to the test of shaping an academic research paper.  Please read the detailed instructions for more information!

Critical Skills:

For this weeks critical skills assignment you will be learning how to create a research question and how to both find and evaluate the strength of scholarly articles.  This week your outcomes will be
1.)    Proficiency at searching for sources using the University of Mount Olive Moye Library website
2.)    How to narrow a broad topic into a research question
3.)    How to evaluate the strength of research using the PROVEN method of evaluation

This week you will be uploading a single word document which contains your research question and 3 individual copies of the PROVEN evaluation method worksheet from each of your 3 selected sources from the library.

Whether we read an article that mentions Economic Recession or Global Warming, we are introduced to new information everyday and need to be able to learn more about it and formulate questions to help us delve more deeply into a topic.  Before beginning to search for sources for a research topic, you need to formulate your general topic as a research question, i.e. the question that you are trying to answer with your research. Since you probably know little about your topic at the beginning of your research, you may have difficulty formulating a research question. In that case you will benefit from doing some preliminary research to find more details about your topic in order to know how you want to narrow or focus your topic into a specific question.

Part 1:  Formulating your research question:
Watch the video here for more information on how to perform a preliminary search and formulate a research question using our University of Mount Olive Moye Library Resources:
You will submit a word document with your specific research question.  You will include 3 citations using APA formatting that will provide more detailed information to answer your specific research question. The research question is yours to develop!  Do a preliminary search to find out more information to hone in on one research question you can get more specific information about.
Example of research topic to research question:
General research topic: Separation anxiety
Research question: How does a parents behavior and attitude affect the onset, intensity and duration of separation anxiety in a child?
General research topic:  Hunting
Research question:  How does wildlife management including hunting impact population levels of white tailed deer in North Carolina?
General research topic:  Recession
Research question:  Does the unemployment rate correlate with economic recession?
If you need more information about writing a research question, please see the article here (HOW TO WRITE A RESEARCH QUESTION).
Parts 2,3, and 4:  PROVEN evaluation method and worksheets
You will download and save the Critical Skills Assignment 6 TEMPLATE from the Moodle shell and will use the PROVEN method to evaluate the 3 sources that pertain to your research question.  Each of your sources MUST be found using the Moye Library databases.

How to Write a Research Question
What is a research question?
A research question is a
clear
focused
concise
complex
arguable
question around which you center your research. You should ask a question about an issue that you are
genuinely curious and/or passionate about.
Why is a research question essential to the research process?
Research questions help writers focus their research by providing a path through the research and writing
process. The specificity of a well-developed research question helps writers avoid the all-about paper and work
toward supporting a specific, arguable thesis.
Steps to developing a research question:
1. Choose an interesting general topic. Even directed academic research should focus on a topic in which
the writer is at least somewhat personally invested. Writers should choose a broad topic about which they
genuinely would like to know more. An example of a general topic might be Slavery in the American
South or Films of the 1930s.
2. Do some preliminary research on your general topic. Do a few quick searches in current periodicals and
journals on your topic to see whats already been done and to help you narrow your focus. What
questions does this early research raise?
3. Consider your audience. For most college papers, your audience will be academic, but always keep your
audience in mind when narrowing your topic and developing your question. Would that particular
audience be interested in this question?
4. Start asking questions. Taking into consideration all of the above, start asking yourself open-ended how
and why questions about your general topic. For example, How did the slave trade evolve in the 1850s
in the American South? or Why were slave narratives effective tools in working toward the abolishment
of slavery?
5. Evaluate your question. After youve got a question or even a couple of question down on paper, evaluate
these questions to realize if they would be effective research questions or if they need more revising.
o Is your research question clear? With so much research available on any given topic, research
questions must be as clear as possible in order to be effective in helping the writer direct his or
her research.
o Is your research question focused? Research questions must be specific enough to be well
covered in the space available.
o Is your research question complex? Research questions should not be answerable with a simple
yes or no or by easily-found facts. They should, instead, require both research and analysis
on the part of the writer.
The George Mason University Writing Center 2014
6. Hypothesize. After youve come up with a question, think about what the path you think the answer will
take. Where do you think your research will take you? What kind of argument are you hoping to
make/support? What will it mean if your research disputes your planned argument? At this step, you are
well on your way to having a focus for your research, constructing a thesis, and then writing out your
argument in a paper.
Sample Research Questions
Unclear: Why are social networking sites harmful?
Clear: How are online users experiencing or addressing privacy issues on such social networking sites as
MySpace and Facebook?
The unclear version of this question doesnt specify which social networking sites or suggest what kind of harm
the sites are causing. It also assumes that this harm is proven and/or accepted. The clearer version specifies
sites (MySpace and Facebook), the type of harm (privacy issues), and whom the issue is harming (users). A
strong research question should never leave room for ambiguity or interpretation.
Unfocused: What is the effect on the environment from global warming?
Focused: How is glacial melting affecting penguins in the Arctic Circle?
The unfocused research question is so broad that it couldnt be adequately answered in a book-length piece, let
alone a standard college-level paper. The focused version narrows down to a specific cause (glacial melting), a
specific place (the Arctic Circle), and a specific group that is affected (penguins). When in doubt, make a research
question as narrow and focused as possible.
Too simple: How are doctors addressing diabetes in the U.S.?
Appropriately Complex: What are common traits of those suffering from diabetes in America, and how can
these commonalities be used to aid the medical community in prevention of the disease?
The simple version of this question can be looked up online and answered in a few factual sentences; it leaves no
room for analysis. The more complex version is written in two parts; it is thought provoking and requires both
significant investigation and evaluation from the writer. As a general rule of thumb, if a quick Google search can
answer a research question, its likely not very effective.

Your first task is to create a project plan for the Board of Directors in Microsoft Word or Excel. The project outline is essential for documenting all of the necessary tasks and milestones necessary to complete the project. The project is expected to take 18 months to complete, and the major milestones are broken up by quarters. You will need to be creative and develop the following items as if you were running the project.
Include the following (you will need to create these items):
    tasks and milestones;
    a project description;
    key stakeholders;
    timeline for the project.

In the Project Description dont forget the length and cost of the project.
The easiest way to identify the Key Stakeholders for this brief paper would be to use a table. You simply could have their position and name. Remember, this is for a specific project with actual people. Who are these people? The table should be limited to those who can make or break the success of the project. Certainly, the acquisition will affect a number of people, but only a few are in the decision-making position. The rest will be sent a notification of intent/progress/completion. There are probably 8 to 10 specific people who will sit at these meetings.  Take a look at https://bizfluent.com/info-8397448-key-stakeholders-organization.html
The Task/Milestones need some work. They are to be an actual list of major milestones and specific tasks broken up by quarters. These may change over the 18 months, but specific tasks should be aligned with quarterly Milestones. A table could list these individual items and line them up with the Milestone. Google images for project task list template
Note that a task is different than a milestone. A milestone is a reference point that marks a major event in a project and is used to monitor the projects progress. It is usually used to indicate when a specific phase or group of tasks is to be completed.  It can be considered a deadline date. You could include them in the same table if they were noted, maybe with a color scheme or a separate column. Google Tasks vs Milestones.

Choose any single feature of schooling as you have experienced it (organization, rules, processes, subjects taught, etc) and explain how it reflects the ideology and political state of the larger society. You have recently discussed digital marketing with some colleagues working at different companies, and you realize that email and mobile marketing strategies are missing from the Costa’s digital marketing efforts. Since many of your customers could be reached there, you approach your administrator with this information, and she has asked you for a report detailing:

Summarize email and mobile marketing and include an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each method.
Hypothesize on how each could be used by the case document company and what the strategy might look like.
Include a visual mockup for a Costa’s marketing email using a free account on Mailchimp.com or other email service provider, including subject line, pre-header, image, body copy, and call-to-action.
Select an existing mobile ad template (320 X 100) you feel is effective on BannerSnack.com (free account) or other graphic design software, and make edits tailored to Costa’s with justification for your creative choice. Supply the .jpeg or .png of the edited mobile ad you created.
Conclude your report.
Why it is important to pursue email marketing campaigns?
Why is mobile marketing important to act upon instead of simply focusing on marketing solely to a desktop computer world?

Measurable( how much? how many? how will I know when its achieved)
Attainable( How can the goal be accomplished?)
Relevant (worthwhile, right time)
Timely ( when?)
My professor is very hard grader. Please keep in mind that being specific and clear is what he is looking for.
I will type some examples here from my class.
Personal Goal: To manage my allowance by spending 50 CHF a week
Why: I was on a limited budget and I wanted to make sure that I would not miss out on any social activities with my friends
How: I set up a Post Finance Bank Account at the beginning of Term and every Sunday I withdrew the entire CHF 50. This way I knew that this would have to last me until the next day.
You can see that this person was very specific and clear and it is attainable
This is another one of my PROFESSOR EXAMPLE PLEASE READ:ONE HE DID.
Academic Goal:
To achieve a 65% in Studying at University Presentation Assessment in week 7 of Term A
Why: I have always been very nervous speaking to an audience. Even though the assessment is videoed I have always gotten poor marks for presentations in the past in high school. I really want to improve in this area.
How: I will design my presentation slides in week 5 and write a script of the words I will say as I am going through the presentation. I will ask my friend Roberto to video the presentation and then I will review it for mistakes. I will rewrite my script to ensure I am meeting the time limits in week 6 and practice it at least three times in front of my freinds for feedback and advice.
Keep in mind my term ends on April 20th. I have to be realistic of what I can achieve IN 10 weeks. , be detailed, do it timely, be SPECIFIC. Like for example. IF MY goal was to be fit, what kind of fit? fit to walk up the stairs? or fit like cristiano ronaldo abs etc.

My Personal Goals is:
To lose 10 pounds by April 20th.
(why) -for ex: i always been insecure of how I weigh and I been eating unhealthy etc.
I need help for a second personal goal..
Academic Goals:
To achieve a 70% in my final essay in Food Hygiene class by Week 9 (in Handout)
To achieve a 70% in my Reflective Academic Journal by Week 9 (in Handout)

Costa’s Customs’ management has been warming up to new ways that they can utilize digital marketing methods, and much of the focus has been on social platform strategies. Costa’s Customs’ management are beginning the initial stages of choosing which platforms and strategies to use. You’ve been called on to weigh-in and provide some social marketing suggestions to Costa’s Customs. The company is asking you to write an initial report identifying and outlining some potential social opportunities.
The following should be completed in your report to Costa’s Customs:
Select 4 specific social platforms that you believe the case company should utilize.
o    Provide an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of each platform choice and explain why you think they’re a good fit for Costa’s Customs.
o    Support each platform choice with observations from the company profile.
Explain which social media strategy you’d recommend utilizing for each chosen platform (two total).
o    Choose from creating diverse content marketing, reaching influencers, and utilizing brand advocates.
o    Layout the general details for how you’ll implement those strategies.
o    Highlight the connection between strategy and platform.
Identify a rung from the social technographics ladder that will be targeted for each chosen platform (two total).
o    Justify and explain your choices.
o    Highlight the connection between technographics group, strategy and platform.
For example, you may choose to utilize Yelp (platform) to reach out to brand advocates (strategy) while catering to critics (social technographics category). All of these choices must be explained, connected to each other, and connected to case document facts that make it a good choice for the business. The general details of the strategy, such as messaging popular Yelp reviewers or offering coupons to customers that enter a review, should also be laid out. It’s important to be detailed and to support your decisions as part of this report is convincing management to listen to your advice and opinions.
