    • Think about research validity and reliability.
  • How do your results support or not support a psychological theory or concept?

Preparation

For this research, you will use the archival data from the GSS Data Explorer website to develop a research research question, develop a hypothesis, and analyze the data to draw conclusions.

Navigate to the GSS website.

  •  Retrieved from https://gssdataexplorer.norc.org/

You will complete the following steps in the GSS website. For a step-by-step guide, refer to the PDF or the video.

  • Create an account and add your two chosen variables to your cart.
    • Be sure that those variables are what you selected for your Literature Review.
  • Create a project, label it 4600_Last name, and save it.
  • Download the data by exporting it to Microsoft Excel.
  • Review the data available for each variable.

Once you have chosen your variables, use them for the entire course and use the resources provided to craft your study.

Instructions

In the next assessment, you will start to conduct your research study. We conduct research studies to expand our knowledge on how human behavior in the world is evolving. To conduct an effective study, we need to understand theories of development as they relate to our current environment and society.

The first step, however, is to create a research proposal that provides the detailed plan for your study. Be sure to use the , as it provides context and wording that you should use to help you clearly explain your main points. By using the template, you will cover all of the points below.

  • Insert your revised literature review in the Literature Review section in the template.
  • Operationally define the variables that you are using in your study.
  • State your hypothesis for your study.
  • Report on the method you will use to sample your participants.
    • You may want to look at the GSS website to see how participants were found.
    • Use your notes from the media piece to guide your sampling method selection.
  • Explain the method you will use to collect and analyze your data.
    • You may want to look at the GSS site to see how data was found.
    • Use your notes from the media piece to guide your sampling method selection.
  • Choose the measurement that matches your study.
    • Review the template for suggested language.
  • Discuss how the measurement increases the reliability and validity of the study.
  • Explain your procedure based on research design you chose.

Preparation

Variables

Throughout this course, you will work on developing a research project utilizing data from the  website, which contains archival data. Archival data is preexisting data that has been collected by another individual or organization, and is available to be analyzed enabling us to draw new conclusions about the data.

In Assessment 2, you will use the website to extract your data using the two variables that you select for this assessment. Begin by selecting two variables of your choice from the following list. Note that “r” represents the participant. These are the variables that you will use throughout the course in your research project.

  • Satisfaction with financial situation.
  • Change in financial situation.
  • Opinion of family income.
  • Marital status.
  • Highest year of school completed.
  • Spouse’s highest degree.
  • Does r or spouse supervise anyone?
  • How often r attends religious services.
  • Condition of health.

Next, start to design a research topic involving the two selected variables. For example, if you select “condition of health” and “How often r attends religious services,” you may want to research how religion impacts an individual’s health and wellness.

Scholarly Sources

Before you conduct research, you need to center your hypothesis and supporting literature on this topic through a literature review, which will be the first piece of your project. You will need to find at least seven scholarly sources to use for your literature review. Below are resources that may help you.

  • Start with , which provides focused library databases and APA resources that may direct your article search.
  • Organizing all of your articles and notes will help you work through your literature review more efficiently. Complete , which will help you organize your notes and think of ways to categorize your findings, such as definitions, variables, findings, and population. It also provides an example of a completed matrix.

Instructions

Write a 35 page literature review that incorporates at least seven scholarly sources. Address the following within your literature review. Ensure that each main point of your paper is supported clearly with evidence from your sources. Under some points, there are guiding questions to guide your thinking, but be sure to consult the scoring guide to make sure you are covering all of what will be assessed.

  • Explain the psychological concepts that were addressed in the research.
    • Are there any patterns, themes, or trends that you were able to trace in your research?
  • Describe the concepts related to the theory that will be the basis for your research.
    • Discuss the value and the limitations of the theoretical concepts.
  • Develop a plausible hypothesis, where you predict the outcomes of the relationship between your two variables, that relies on evidence and reasoning.
  • Use APA-style formatting, citations, and references.

Submission Requirements

Submit your literature review as your deliverable for assessment.

Instructions
For this assignment, you will write a case study analysis that focuses on the communication strategy of an organization of your choice.
In this assignment, you will need to a) summarize the communication strategy of your chosen organization, b) analyze the communication strategy of your chosen organization, and c) explain how you would integrate the communication strategy into the current organization where you work or into a former organization where you have worked.
A. Summarize the Communication Strategy
Locate an article that discusses the communication strategies used by your chosen organization. After reading your chosen article, you may find the exercise below to be helpful in developing a summary paragraph. Identify the author(s) of your chosen article, and complete the following exercise:
[Insert authors name here] discusses how innovative communication processes have helped [insert name of the organization here] resolve [insert issue here].
The top reason [insert authors name here] holds that position is __________.
A second reason [insert authors name here] holds that position is __________.
A third reason [insert authors name here] holds that position is __________.
After filling in the blanks, you should have a list of the positions and claims made by the authors about your chosen organization. Shape your notes into a summary paragraph. (Do not simply include the list that you completed in the exercise above.)
Remember that the summary paragraph is where you will present information from the source. You will provide your analysis and interpretation in the following section of the paper.
B. Analyze the Communication Strategy
Be sure to include how the communication strategy impacts the organization on multiple levels. Feel free to use the four levels of sales, services, value chain, and continuous improvement as a model, which was discussed in the case study on the Dell Computer Corporation in the Unit VI Lesson. (Note: Your categories may be different.)
In the analysis portion of the assignment, discuss any problems (or potential problems) with the communications in your chosen organization, and provide potential solutions based on your research. Include ways that effective management could help to provide a solution.
C. Explain Integration Techniques
Finally, explain how this communication strategy could be integrated into your current or former workplace.
You will need to reference at least two academic sources.
Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion). APA format should be used. The assignment should be a minimum of three pages in length. Content, organization, and grammar/mechanics will be evaluated.

The purpose of reaction papers (a.k.a. a position papers) is not merely to summarize the readings or the contents of lectures, but rather to make an analytical argument pertaining to each units material. In a concise (possibly creative) way, reaction papers should draw on the key points in the readings and lectures, and they should establish connections with issues, debates, and theoretical approaches. Think of reaction papers as short essays based on each units material. Before you start writing your reaction papers, ask yourself the following questions: What was the unit about? What were the main themes and approaches? Who were the key theorist? How are the main themes and key theorist related and how are they different? If you had to summarize what the unit was about to a friend, what would you say? (or what and who did you think the most important themes, theories, and theorists were?). Once you have figured out what units were about, develop an analytical argument based on each units content. What argument do you think best applies to the material we have studied? Reaction papers are independent assignments. If you choose to work with others, be very careful to avoid making the same arguments. Plagiarism and academic dishonesty charges will only create problems for you. It could help to organize your reaction papers in three sections: introduction, content, and conclusion. The introduction is very important. This is where you will hook the reader and present your thesis or argument. Your argument should be analytical, concise, and clear. Your introduction should be one paragraph (two at most). The rest of each reaction paper will remain focused on your argument. Never lose sight of your argument/thesis. The second part of the papers will present evidence to support your arguments. Evidence will only come from course readings and lectures. Do not cite lectures. We will assume that lecture material is universal knowledge. You will need to cite direct quotes from the text. The third part of your paper will be the conclusions. Conclusions should be brief, no more than a paragraph or two. Papers should not exceed five double-spaced pages (one-inch margin). Include a title page and, ideally, a creative title (title pages do not count as one of the five pages).
