Advanced Generalist Practice: Assessment and Intervention Paper (150 points)

This signature assignment fulfills the Masters in Social Work Program Learning Outcome #2: Engage Diversity and Difference in Practice and Program Learning Outcome #3 Advance Human Rights and Social, Economic and Environmental Justice.
This assignment is an opportunity to pull together all you have learned in this course. The ability to assess and intervene on behalf of a client involves multiple layers. Select one of two videos provided in week 8 in the Blackboard course (content is the same in each social worker and client are different). The video highlights the opening of a 2nd session. The presenting problem is that the client is experiencing grief and depression after a sudden loss. In practice, you would be able to gather information directly from the client. This video scenario is intentionally vague presenting the opportunity for you to begin to create a client scenario as you sort through various assessment tools including intersectionality, suicidal prevention and assessment, substance use disorder, cognitive-behavior therapy strategies and motivational interviewing.

Intersectionality Assessment of Client
Provide an assessment of intersecting factors for the client addressing social location, identity, political power structures, structural oppression, economic and environmental power structures. In preparation for future sessions what might be important to consider if you were the social worker? What are the intersections that may need to be addressed in future sessions? If this client was from your state, maybe even your city what are key areas of power, privilege, and oppression that need to be taken into consideration? (Include a minimum of 4 references).
