Read the essays with the filenames DiazEssay1.PDF and DiazEssay2.PDF and then read the University Writing Center (UWC) – Analyzing Scholarly Articles.PDF.

Then, write 1) a 500-word summary of both articles (250-word summary/ per essay), and 2) a 250-word critical evaluation of both articles (discuss both articles within the 250-word minimum).

Remember to include your own point of view in your critical evaluation and to refer to the “feminist lens” questions discussed in class when analyzing the articles.

Feminist Lens
The word of the text is dominated by a patriarchal system.  Meaning men posses more privilege and power than other genders.

Women (non-men) experience oppression.

Gender parity/equity is important.

How is the relationship between men and women portrayed? Who’s perspective are we getting?

What are the power relationships between the genders? m/f, m/m, f/f

What constitutes masculinity or femininity or lgbtq?

Characters points of view and/or social constructs.

How do characters embody these traits?

What are the examples of resistance in the text? Resistance to patriarchy? How is the system being disruptive?
