After you explore the course materials from this week please complete the following:

1. Pick three of the maps from the migration policy institute link. For each map answer the following… (About 200 words)
a) What type of map does the author use to tell a story? (Does it show little bubbles of different size – a proportional symbol? or perhaps a choropleth map (shaded areas)
b) How is visual hierarchy used on this map?
c)  What is the title of the map? What story does the map tell? What does it show?
d) What are some strengths and weaknesses of the map? What would you change?
e) Does it say where the data came from? How do you think it’s collected?

2. Navigate to the asylum seekers map. Explore it.  (About 200 words)
a) What geographic patterns do you see?
b) Where does the data come from?
c) Do you like the approach the cartographers took to creating the map? What would you change if you made a map about asylum seekers?

3. Migration Data Portal  (About 150 words)
a) Togging through the different categories under ‘immigration and emigration’ – look at the proportional symbols on the map – find the country you created charts for last week (Spain, charts attached). Are the numbers similar to what you found? If there are discrepancies – how do you account for them?
b) What patterns emerge on this map?
c) Please include snips of two countries (for immigration and emigration) you haven’t explored yet. Describe what you see.

Hello,
Attached below is the assignment outline. The assignment lists several areas, however, I like the assignment to be based on Greektown town specifically. Regarding the hand-drawn map requirement, please ensure to include a clear, map on a solid piece of paper including 4 major features; Compass (north arrow), legend, title, and scale.
Thank you for your help.

the writing should be well written with details and using in-text citation on APA style (as a MASTERS degree level) and attach some figure if found. citation should be from journals or books not web sites. it’s not an easy topic so please don’t try if you are not familiar.

should contain
– abstract (Please provide an abstract of 150 to 200 words. The abstract
should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references) and should
include 4 to 6 keywords.

-introduction
-body or literature review (with sub titles in details)
– conclusion
-Reference (in APA style)

find a recent news article (within the past 12 months) that describes the latest developments in a conflict, issue, or other major event in this the South American realm.  Provide a brief summary of the conflict/issue/event that your article describes, and your own analysis of how this issue might affect the realm, and might be resolved. Be sure that the topic of the news article has some connection with the geographical issues and concepts we’ve been discussing, and be sure to highlight these connections in your discussion.

The overall grade in this course will include a paper that deals with some current research topic  in inorganic  chemistry. The  paper should  include 4-8pages  of  single-spaced  text including additional figures and references. The paper should be written using a standard template for communications to American Chemical Society journals, available at http://pubs.acs.org/page/jacsat/submission/jacsat_templates.html

A paper willbe worth 25% of the overall grade. A paper will be graded based on content, clarity  of  presentation,  and  comprehension  of  the material. A paper  should  contain  your original text, copying parts from books, research articles, etc. verbatim, is prohibited.

The purpose of a paper is to provide a short  and  concise  review of a chosen topic.  The material  should  include (1)  a  brief  review  of  the subject  area, (2) an identification  and importance  of  the existing problems, (3) a  description  of approaches  to  solve these problems, and (4)a future  outlook  of  the  subject  area. These  items  should  be  related  as much as possible to the material discussed in the class lectures.

Ideas  for paper topics  can  be  taken  from  recent review and  perspective articles from journals like Advanced  Materials,  Materials  Today,  Journal  of  the  American  Chemical Society, Inorganic  Chemistry and Chemistry  of  Materials.    Other  potential  sources for ideas are recent issues of C&E News, Science and Nature family journals.

*The file attached is about the material that discussed in the class.

Discussion prompt:Come up with 5 meaningful questions that represent key concepts or ideas covered in the reading. Choose three of your questions and answer them yourself. Each answer should be about 150 words. So make sure your questions are open-ended and substantial enough to require that many words. Find a news story that is relevant to the topic. Post it (or a link) and explain in a few sentences why you chose it and how it relates to the issues and concepts in the assigned reading for the week. The story needs to be fairly recent (within the last year) but it can be from any publication, from any country, in any medium (i.e., newspaper, magazine, TV, radio etc.)

Before doing this lab, use resources from this site or the NASA site to view the features of the Sun, including its interior, photosphere, sunspots, solar cycle, chromosphere and corona (http://www.windows2universe.org/the_universe/the_universe.html).

Unit 7: Sunspots Lab

Materials needed for the lab: Graph paper, pencil and straight edge for doing this lab activity in class or You may do this lab entirely on an Excel spread sheet.

Sunspots are areas of gas on the sun that are cooler than the gases around them.  Some scientists believe that short-term changes in climate on Earth may be related to the sunspot cycles.

Problem: How will you predict the number of sunspots for a future year using existing patterns in sunspots numbers?

Procedure:

Use the data in the table below to make a graph of sunspot activity between 1967 and 1997.

On the graph, label the x-axis Year. Use a scale with 2-year intervals from 1967 to 1997.

Label the y-axis Average Number of Sunspots. Use a scale of 0 through 160 in intervals of 10.

Graph a point for the average number of sunspots for each year.

Complete your graph by drawing lines to connect the points.

  Analyze and Conclude:

Based on your graph, which years had the highest average number of sunspots? The lowest average number?

How often does the cycle of maximum and minimum activity repeat?

When was the most recent maximum sunspot activity? The most recent minimum sunspot activity?

Using your graph, predict the number of sunspots in the year of your graduation.

Summarize: Describe how the changes in the sunspot cycle can cause climate changes on Earth.

Choose THREE of the following topics to answer in 2-3 pages (double spaced). Your completed midterm exam will be a minimum of six pages total (seven with your works cited) and can be as long as ten pages. Be as complete and detailed as possible. Be sure to cite the sources of all the information (including the Weisman and Niemel texts) you use in your articles with both in-text citations (author, year) and complete citations at the end of each essay (use APA style). Use your own words! Quote only sparingly. Also, the question How? does not just mean describe a change, but if possible also explain the mechanisms involved. Use a readable 12 point font and double space.

Taking into account all of the differences between natural and urban habitats, how are animals able to live within urban areas? Which kinds of animals can and cannot live in urban habitats? Do they share any special traits? Does living in an urban area change their population structure?
2. If New York City was completely abandoned by people, what would happen to all the houses, cathedrals, skyscrapers, sculpture, bridges, subways, roads and other material left behind? Would everything completely disappear? How long would it take? Would the returning vegetation resemble the pre-European settlement forest? If not, why not?

3. Discuss the characteristics of urban soils. Explain how previous use affects soils in the long term using the experimental agricultural fields Rothamsted Broadbalk and Geesecroft as examples,

4. Explain how urban structures change hydrology and water quality. Go into detail on the different aspects of hydrology, including soil characteristics that affect hydrology.

5. What are some of the different types of land uses in urban areas? Compare each in terms of biodiversity, surface types, relative evapotranspiration, plant cover, albedo, and radiation flux.

6. How are wetlands in and at the edge of urban areas affected by the urban presence? (in terms of biodiversity, community and population structure, hydrology, and soil and water quality characteristics)

7. Explain how the presence of buildings, roads, and sealed surfaces affects the climate of city (compared to surrounding rural and natural areas). Include all aspects of climate temperature, wind, and precipitation and their spatial and seasonal patterns, chemical and biological.

Write a 1 page (approximately 500 word) essay on, due the following week October 22, 2020 by the beginning of class 11:45 am. Write the essay as a MS Word.docx then copy and paste into this Quiz. Essay format; students name, title/subject, analysis, Times New Roman, black, font size 12, in English. The essay will be in your words, evidence of copying the works of others that is not referenced will result in no points being awarded for the assignment. Data and statements of fact not considered common knowledge must be referenced. References are not counted in the overall 500 word count. Sources of information used in the essay presented using APA format. Essay Subject: Extracting Oil from the Alaskan/Arctic National Wildlife Refuge will have a minimal impact on local plants and animals. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
