Paper MUST answer/ summarize the following:
How does earth keep a fairly steady temperature?
this is a huge question: make sure to talk about carbon sinks, albedo effect, etc.
talk about the atmospheres mechanisms for keeping earths temperature fairly steady.
Identify Greenhouse gases, how they are created, etc.
Talk about the fact that what is happening now is that we are changing the equilibrium, not so much that the gases in themselves are bad: very important!
Talk about WHAT is changing the balance
Who is responsible? How do we know?
How quick is it changing?
Now to the big questions: what do we do with this?
focus on linking with what you just said before here to indicate what are the best approaches to bring the balance back to the climate
how do we do that?
what are the main methods?
Be especially careful to not simply mention that Electric Cars would fix the whole problem, or that simply shutting down lights a bit would make even a dent on this.
Real methods include: driving slower, dropping significantly our consumption of red meat, researching climate engineering, use energy sparingly (not keeping your house at 17 in the dead of summer, or at 30 in the dead of winter for example, etc.). Self-driving cars WOULD save GHG because we could optimize road usage, etc. Using airplanes is for example especially detrimental to the environment.
And so many other ways
Make sure to link to our Canadian lives: how can we then make any positive impact on this?
PAPER MUST HAVE A STRUCTURE. Introduction, Body Paragraphs for each main idea etc.

Your post is based on this week’s two case studies in our casebook, Arthur Brisbane and Arthur Ashe. Pick one of those cases and describe how you would deal with it using the Potter Box. There is no word-limit on this assignment – other than it should be at least 150 words.

the two cases on are pae 20-26

Your assignment is to prepare a written analysis of an ethical case study based on Kidders Checkpoints of Ethical Decision-Making.

FULLY discuss ALL concepts – paradigms, resolution principles, philosophers, philosophies, ethical fitness, authenticity, personal/professional codes, etc.
**all of these concepts are in Kidders book. if you need access to book I  will send you it. LET ME KNOW***

The caser study is on: Prisoner Molests Local Girl

dont use any other sources other than “Prisoner Molests Local Girl” and “Kidders Checkpoints of Ethical Decision-Making.”

I will attach all documents/instructions you need other than kidders book!!

Explore how Vygotsky’s work does or does not align with current trends and directions in social media. Be sure to think critically about whether or not the theory “holds up” to the work being done today. Perhaps the theory is out of date or perhaps educators are headed in a direction that does not make sense given what is known about learning and development. Be sure to consider how the diversity of the modern classroom may impact your thinking about your chosen topic.
The focus of the paper is your analysis of the issue. It should include your insights and your critique of the topic. Make a persuasive case for your exploration and be sure to use research to support your arguments.

PHI Critical Thinking Webtext Chapter 2

1.The article cites sociologist Nancy DiTomasos argument that Discrimination today is less about treating people from other groups badly, and more about giving preferential treatment to people who are part of our in-groups. Provide an example that either supports or refutes this claim.

2. Give an example where a bias in favor of a particular group could result in poor critical thinking.

3. Give an example of a culture you identify with, and of a habit or belief that you have acquired as a result of that culture.

4. Arziel, an American, holds a stereotype that Islamic countries are violent places. Consequently, she turns down the opportunity to go on vacation to a safe part of Indonesia solely because she reads that Indonesia is a primarily Islamic country, and she assumes that she will be attacked if she travels to the country.
A) Explain how Arziels cultural perspective is affecting her critical thinking in this instance.

5. Has anyone ever made an assumption about you based on a stereotype? If so, explain what happened.

6. In what way might a seemingly positive stereotype about a group of people (e.g. African Americans have great rhythm, or Gay men are well-groomed) have a negative consequence?

7. Adichie summarizes the main argument of her talk by stating, The consequence of the single story is this: it robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different rather than how we are similar.
A) Explain what you think she means by this, and describe whether you agree or disagree and why.

8. Adichie gives a number of examples of times when both herself and people she knows have fallen into the trap of seeing a single story for a group of people. Give an example of a time from your life when you have inadvertently stereotyped a group outside your own.

9. Jonahs thinking was affected by a critical thinking barrier, but that doesnt necessarily mean his decision was a poor one. Explain why.

10. Consider your attitude toward the value of getting a college degree and explain what influences from your culture and background you think led you to that belief.

11. Explain what you believe to be the most compelling premise or reason from the ProCon.org website that supports the conclusion that violent video games do contribute to youth violence and why.

12. Explain what you believe to be the most compelling premise or reason from the ProCon.org website that supports the conclusion that violent video games do not contribute to youth violence and why.

13. Imagine the perspective of a serious gamer who uses video games as a way to relax and bond with friends. How might this person view this issue?

14. Imagine the perspective of the parent of a child who is being bullied by another student who regularly plays violent video games. How might this person view this issue?

PHI 210 CRITICAL THINKING

Assignment 1.1: Conflicting Viewpoints Essay – Part I
Prewriting
Due Week 3 and worth 30 points

When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view? This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking by playing the “Believing Game.” The Believing Game is about making the effort to “believe” – or at least consider – the reasons for an opposing view on an issue.
The assignment is divided into two (2) parts.
In Part I of the assignment (due Week 3), you will first read a book excerpt about critical thinking processes: “The Believing Game and How to Make Conflicting Opinions More Fruitful” at http://www.procon.org/sourcefiles/believinggame.pdf. Next, you will review the Procon.org Website in order to gather information. Then, you will engage in prewriting to examine your thoughts.
Note: In Part II of the assignment (due Week 5), you will write an essay geared towards synthesizing your ideas.
Part I – Prewriting: Follow the instructions below for this prewriting activity. Use complete sentences and adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.
1.    Select one (1) of the approved topics from the www.procon.org Website and state your position on the issue.
2.    From the Procon.org Website, identify three (3) premises (reasons) listed under either the Pro or Con section – whichever section opposes your position.
3.    For each of the three (3) premises (reasons) that oppose your position on the issue, answer these “believing” questions suggested by Elbow:
a.    What’s interesting or helpful about this view?
b.    What would I notice if I believed this view?
c.    In what sense or under what conditions might this idea be true?”
The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:
Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
This prewriting assignment has no page requirement. There is no requirement at this time to include references in the assignment.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
Identify the informal fallacies, assumptions, and biases involved in manipulative appeals and abuses of language.
Create written work utilizing the concepts of critical thinking.
Use technology and information resources to research issues in critical thinking skills and informal logic.

Instructions for the Project:

Read pages 275-277 of your text explaining Kohlberg’s theory of moral development.
Do research in other sources to provide you with a more in-depth look at the stages that are discussed.
Make a power point presentation consisting of at least 15 slides explaining these stages and how your own style of moral reasoning relates to Kohlberg’s stages.
You will have at least one slide explaining each stage and at least one slide giving an example of each stage.
You will answer the following questions about your own moral decision making in your discussion paper (using at least 500 words), after you have made your slide presentation on Kohlberg’s stages:

Discuss your own moral decision making and how it relates to these stages.
Do you make moral decisions at a different stage now than you did at an earlier point in your life? Explain and provide an example of a moral decision you made at an earlier point in your life.
Discuss a recent moral decision that you made and explain how your style of moral reasoning relates to Kohlberg’s stage theory of moral development.

The research paper is based on a youtube series: Justice by Michael Sandel
Episodes 5, 10, 11, 12

The evaluation of the papers will be based on thoroughness (including adequate coverage of relevant issues/techniques as well as references to the related work), soundness (including justification for any claims made, illustrative example, correct and adequate analysis of connections or relationships among concepts or techniques), clarity/organization, and significance (defined by the degree to which the paper covers new material, and the extent of the original work by the author in drawing conclusions
and synthesizing scholarly work in this area). Note that the paper must not simply be a concatenation of material from several other papers, but must include some original analysis of that work in the context of the paper topic.
