here is the podcast you were going to use for the essay.https://blackboard.waketech.edu/courses/1/2020SP.PHI.240.0003/content/_15647448_1/dir_PHI.zip/PHI5.html
1.  Read the Discussion Rubric carefully.

2.  Then, after reading the Chapter on relativism and watching the video on Bride Kidnapping, examine the cultural practice of Bride Kidnapping and formulate a thesis or claim for why the practice is acceptable or unacceptable morally.  Spend some time working on this thesis or claim.  Please note that cultural relativism has problems, the biggest being the inability for equal rights.  Make sure you are not just stating that you think is it fine because it is their culture.  Try to think how you might view this if you were the one in their position.  Many students say they would not like this and we do not practice this here thank goodness.  That is a good start but go further to explain exactly what is wrong with doing this to any human being regardless of culture.  If you think it is fine, make sure to tell us why it is okay to treat some people in this way and not others.

3. This article on Developing your Thesis (opens in a new window), gives great advice and I would begin using it for this discussion board.

Plain text link:  https://depts.washington.edu/owrc/Handouts/Developing%20Your%20Thesis.pdf

4.  After you feel you have a good thesis or claim, provide solid reasons convincing us that we should be persuaded of your position.  Simply telling us that is unethical without explaining what you mean and or not providing any reasons to persuade us, is not making a solid case.  If your thesis is a good one, it will excite responses from your classmates.  If we all agree with you, there is no point in making the claim.  Choose something that at least half of us would disagree with.  The next few sentences in your second paragraph should be reasons or evidence to support your claim. This first part of this, the original post, is due  Friday, January 17, 2020 by 11:59 p.m. You do not have to wait until Friday to post. You are welcome to post as soon as you have read and developed a good argument.

Please read carefully: (maximum 1000 words)

Report on Business Ethics:

As a final assignment, the student will be asked to carry out a study on a specific company, chosen from the FTSE100 stock index. It must be an original piece of work, which should be understood as consultancy report. The application of the concepts discussed in class to the real issues observed in the company must be shown and presented in the format of an executive report (max 1,000 words you can hand in less, but anything above will not be reviewed). This should address the following points:

1) The firms general stance: description of the position of the firm regarding ethics and corporate social responsibility.

2) The analysis of its CSR report, if published. Which points are included? How much information is provided? Is it relevant and trustworthy? Which points are missing?

3) Any scandals or unethical behavior registered in the past. Description of the event, what caused it and how the company reacted.

4) Its code of ethics, if available. How is it formulated? Offer a critical analysis.

5) Its leaders behavior. Do the leaders inspire the rest of the employees to behave ethically?

Recommendations for improvement.
Since this is an executive report, the information must be summarized very much. Only the essential pieces of information should be included and no unnecessary descriptions should extend the length of the text without adding value. In this sense, the capability of condensing relevant information and transmitting it fluidly will be essential. From the report, it should become evident that the student dominates the concepts discussed in the sessions and is able to confront a real business. He/She should present a report, which could easily be forwarded to the management team of the firm being analyzed and serve as a diagnosis of their position in regards to Business Ethics.

The report should list the consulted references (in APA 6th ed. style) at the end and may include some annexes. Both these sections will not compute for the final word count. Neither a title page nor an index are necessary. It is recommended that the title should read:

Executive Report on Business Ethics at Name of the Company

by Name of the Student

The text should be in Calibri, font size 11 and single spacing. Numbering of sections and structure are left to the students; however, a certain structural logic is expected.

Grading criteria will include the discussion of the items listed above in enough depth (with use of data whenever required by the argument), relation to the concepts and frameworks discussed in class, appropriate use of technical terms, capability to express in written form the most fundamental conclusions, and recommendations for improvement supported by the analysis.

A Reminder for CEOs Considering a Shift in Focus: Shareholders Are Still King
The Virtuous Corporation Is Not an Oxymoron

THERE IS NOT A RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWER FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.

this is our take-home final exam.

Attached are 2 samples of exam, instructions sheet and template for exam.

I’m taking the “critical thinking”course. Also the course is related to film studies.

And the documentary I choose is <Taxi to the darkside>which you can watch on Youtube.(Need to rent).  Make sure you WATCH THE ENTIRE FILM and then write the paper.

Beginning to Think about Applied Ethics

Before beginning this paper, make sure that you have completed Module 1 and chosen your Applied Ethics topic (animal rights, euthanasia, or global poverty). It is also highly recommend that you have read LaFollette’s “Writing a Philosophy Paper” from Ethics in Practice: An Anthology. This paper is worth 5% of your grade in this course. Make sure to follow the following instructions.

Topic

In this paper, you will begin to defend your own view on your applied ethics topic. In order to do this, you must explain your applied ethics topic, briefly, then write a clear thesis statement that states your own view. After giving your thesis statement, you need to explain why you have this position. So, explain two or three reasons that you think support your view.

Grading

This paper will be graded on content, not length. That being said, you should aim for 1-2 pages. If your paper is too short, you wont have included all of the necessary portions of this assignment. Your paper should include an introduction, paragraphs devoted to the reasons for your position, and a conclusion. If your paper seems to be a bit long, make sure every word is absolutely necessary. You should be able to explain the concepts succinctly as well as clearly.

This is not a research paper, so you should not need to use any sources outside the course materials. However, you may want to refer to other sources to support your position. If you do, make sure you cite them properly. You may use any style that you prefer (APA, MLA, etc.), as long as you areconsistent. This should be your own work. Do not plagiarize. See the Syllabus for my policy on this.

In 500 words or more (no less), explain the difference between normative ethics and meta-ethics. You may use examples, but you will still need to include a full scholarly definition of each, with commentary. You may use any scholarly source other than a dictionary, to include online video lectures. You may use Wikipedia as a starting point, but be aware that Wikipedia is not a scholarly source and therefore can never be quoted in your paper or counted as 1 of your 5 bibliographic citations. You will need to include inline citations in your essay (last name, date, pg#) and must still cite any sources beyond the five required that you use to write your paper in the references section of your essay. If you include an inline citation, there must be a corresponding entry in the reference list or bibliography. You can find tools and examples of APA citation formats at the Purdue University Online Writing Lab.

You are required to submit a separate annotated bibliography. Using the resource center and the scholarly research tools I listed in the course introduction, for your research. With that information, create an annotated bibliography with 5 sources related to the ethical theory of the week.

PHI 210 Critical Thinking
Week 1
Part 1
Think about what types of problems you have encountered on your job.  How did you solve the problem?  Did you ask questions first or just delve into the problem?

NOTE:  Dont provide a personal problem but a work-related problem/challenge that you helped solve or a problem/challenge that you and a team of employees solved. Be specific considering the following prompts:

1.    Provide the specific situation or scenario.
2.    What steps were performed to think through the situation using critical thinking, more importantly, asking the right questions??
3.    What was the final outcome and was the problem solved?

Response to for EXTRA CREDIT:
For this weeks discussion question I have chosen to focus on a particular problem that often tends to occur within my place of work, which is everyone is not on the same page. Almost everyday a problem arises between supervisors as to who is right within making an executive decision in regards to policy holders and their coverage. I feel as if all were trained in a different way and the procedures are not always right. We often seek to obtain the correct procedures from a manager and once confirmed we share the information via email to everyone in the department so that everyone will know the correct procedures should they ever run into the same issue. It’s often easily resolved without conflict.

Part 2
The discussion will focus on the biases learned from the Webtext.  We all have biases but they need to be checked prior to solving any problems.
From the four (4) options below, choose one of the options below which are a few of the biggest problems in the world today, and think about your own biases including emotional biases) and how your biases can have an negative impact on coming up with a solution to the issue.+

1.    Climate change and destruction of nature
2.    Inequality income discrimination)
3.    Government accountability and transparency/corruption
4.    Safety/security/well being

Part 3
Based on what you have read in the Webtext on arguments, write out your own argument that you would either deliver to someone in person or in writing. NOTE:  Your argument needs to contain more than one sentence.  Then identify the premise(s) and the conclusion.
Indicate whether your argument is deductive or inductive and explain your answer.
Is your argument strong or weak?
Identify the premises and the conclusion as follows:
P1 (for the premise), P2 (for the 2nd premise, and C (for the conclusion).
Example: Argument:
It is wrong for persons who do not receive a proper trail to be found guilty and sentenced to death.
P1. Many persons are sentenced to death due to mistake or careless work by police or prosecutors.
P2. It is wrong for persons who do not receive a proper trial to be found guilty and sentenced to death.
C. The death penalty should be abolished
