Identify Three Fallacies

Once you learn the names of the major logical fallacies, you will probably start noticing them all over the place, including in advertisements, movies, TV shows, and everyday conversations. This can be both fascinating and frustrating, but it can certainly help you to avoid certain pitfalls in reasoning that are unfortunately very common. This exercise gives you a chance to practice identifying fallacies as they occur in daily life.

Write: Present three distinct informal logical fallacies you have discovered in these types of sources or in your life. Make sure to identify the specific fallacy committed by each example. Explain how the fallacies were used and the context in which they occurred. Finally, explain how the person should have presented the argument in order to avoid committing this logical error.

The experiment should focus on a family member, relative, friend, or pet.

Start an experiment “report” where you detail the steps you will take to “train” your trainee.  Make sure this has a basis from what you have learned in this module.

Perform your experiment, setting a duration, as well as intervals to work on the training.  Detail this information in your report as well.

After completing your experiment, detail what you have learned and whether or not your experiment could be deemed successful.  What did you learn from this process?  What would you do differently if you had to do this again?

Finalize your report with your conclusions and submit it.

Follow proper APA formatting guidelines, including citing sources appropriately and including a reference list (of at least 3 sources).

Read chapters 12 and 13 (pages 83 -97). These two Chapters discuss  one of the most important ethical theories (deontology, or Kantianism)  we will study. It is a good idea to take notes as you read, jot down questions about things you do not understand, etc.

For your written assignment:

1- Choose one of the cases you read for this week. Prepare a Powerpoint presentation (4 – 6 slides) that includes the following:

2- Summarize the case or caselet.

3- What are the ethical issues in this case? What choice(s) of “right or wrong, permitted or not permitted” needs to be made here?

4- What are some possible solutions to the case?

5- What reasons support those solutions?

6- What do you think should be done, and why?

7- Do your best to apply Utilitarianism and Kant (Deontology) to your case: what different solutions (or similar solutions) do these theories support? How?

8- What are some questions for class discussion?

Please turn this presentation in to Moodle (as a Powerpoint presentation)

This is a 2 page Goal Statement for my grad school application.  I am applying for a masters in Health Services Administration.

This professional essay (minimum of two pages) should include a description of:
– A significant professional accomplishment
– Expectations of graduate study
– Career goals.

I went to college to get my bachelors in public health while working 40+ hrs/week at a group home to pay my way.  The group home is for the mentally handicapped.  I have been working with them for 2 years.  My biggest professional accomplishment would be using my knowledge I acquired with my public health degree to change the way the guys at the group home eat and exercise.  Before they would eat nothing but meat, cheese, and bread.  Now I have them eating salads and roasted vegetables for dinner and fruit and oatmeal for breakfast.

My expectation of this graduate study is to learn how to manage health care centers and organizations. As the health care industry expands, opportunities for management, consulting and executive-level positions will continue to grow. I would like to develop the skills needed to successfully plan, direct and coordinate medical and health services.

My career goal is to rise up to upper level management while working with populations such as the mentally handicapped or the elderly.  I would love to stay at the company I work for now, but be promoted.

This is a serious, scholarly term paper with a minimum of six scholarly citations required.

Students are required to identify and address an interesting topic that is related to the area of housing and communities for older persons.  Please do not select a very general topic, such as housing for the elderly.  This paper provides students an opportunity to research a specific and interesting idea related to senior housing.  Specific, manageable themes include, but are not limited to, protection from eviction for elderly renters, the future of co-housing, zoning impediments to accessory apartments, better regulations for assisted living, the benefits and risks of reverse mortgages, and the appropriateness of specific policies, programs, or housing types for specific groups (for example, ethnicity, mental and physical capacity, and family composition) or other cultures and countries. This term paper should include an introduction; a review of the literature; discussion of the issues and problems of special significance related to the subject; implications for planning, design, policy, management, and practice in senior housing; suggestions for future research and knowledge building; and a closing rationale justifying the relevance of the topic.  Select a subject that is both of interest to you and that can be managed within the time frame and page limitations of the assignment.

Part 1:

Answer the following questions, from readings, in answer and question format:

  1. Many campus and advocacy groups are currently involved in struggles for a “living wage.” How do you think a living wage should be calculated?
  2. Were you surprised by the casual reactions of Ehrenreich’s coworkers when she revealed herself as an undercover writer? Were you surprised that she wasn’t suspected of being “different” or out-of-place despite her graduate-level education and usually comfortable lifestyle?
  3. Many of Ehrenreich’s colleagues relied heavily on familyfor housing and help with child-care, by sharing appliances and dividing up the cooking, shopping, and cleaning. Do you think Americans make excessive demands on the family unit rather than calling for the government to help those in need?
  4. Nickel and Dimed takes place in 1998-2000, a time of unprecedented prosperity in America. Do you think Ehrenreich’s experience would be different in today’s economy? How so?
  5. After reading Nickel and Dimed, do you think that having a jobany jobis better than no job at all? Did this book make you feel angry? Better informed? Relieved that someone has finally described your experience? Galvanized to do something.

Part 2: Essay Format

In two pages (not including cover or reference pages), write an Essay that addresses your views on low wage workers need for a $15.00 minimum wage in the US, including making an argument for or against the $15.00 minimum wage. Students are expected to cite sources to support arguments and format citations and reference list using APA (American Psychological Association -sixth edition).

As you think about your argument for or against the $15.00 minimum wage, consider some of the following questions:

  • What is a living wage? How much is it today? Is it really a living wage?
  • Why do you think caused the pay gap between men and women and how can we close the gap?
  • What are some of the challenges associated with organizing for increasing minimum wage to $15.00 an hour? Are some of the challenges specific to any low wage groups (i.e., women, young adults, elderly, or people disability, etc.) or industries (i.e., retail, restaurant, or domestic workers, etc.)
