We will use the Garman-Kohlhagan model (Links to an external site.) to price our options in this assignment. We will write a function that takes the option contract parameters (type–call or put, strike price, and expiration date) as well as market observations (spot exchange rate, volatility, and interest rates in both the domestic and foreign currencies) and returns the fair market value of the option contract.

The work will be decomposed into several functions and the pricing function will use these lower-level functions to calculate its result. The functions you will write are:

fx_option_price(call, strike, expiration, spot_date, spot, volatility, domestic_rate, foreign_rate)
fx_option_d2(term, volatility, d1)
fx_option_d1(strike, term, spot, volatility, domestic_rate, foreign_rate)
discount(rate, term)
years_apart(date1, date2)

Paragraph 2 (approximately 4-6 sentences):

How did Americas role in the world change between 1890 and 1920? Did the United States become a force for global peace and trade or simply another imperial power such as Britain, France and Japan that took over and ruled over peoples as part of a colonial Empire in this period? Explain your answer.

Overview: For this assignment, you will write a short paper addressing the controversial issue of obtaining a fair cross section of jurors to serve on a jury.

The continuing underrepresentation of some groupsincluding minorities, young adults, and the poorremains a concern in attempting to create a fair cross section of the community represented on juries. One reason for this underrepresentation is obvious racism, bigotry, and prejudice. Another reason is that the poor often cannot afford to be on juries, because they will miss work and be compensated at a much lower wage to serve on the jury. Social class plays a strong role in conflict theory, as the theory suggests socioeconomic status directly affects the selection of jurors and the disparity in social class of those incarcerated in this country. Often, attorneys use peremptory challenges to exclude jurors, which require no show of cause or reasonable grounds to exclude. These peremptory challenges are often utilized when a juror seems apathetic or disinterested in the process. Peremptory challenges are limited in number, whereas challenges for cause (some type of conflict, bias, or affiliation with the involved parties) are unlimited.

Prompt: Address the following critical elements in your paper:

 1. Issue Presented: Summarize the issue in the form of a brief one-sentence question.

2. Short Answer: Provide a short answer which summarizes the conclusion of the paper.

3. Statement of Facts: Describe how the issue may negatively affect public perception of the criminal justice system.

4. Discussion: Provide a brief discussion of the issue, including the recent history of the issue and any legal precedents related to it.

5. Conclusion: Provide a conclusion based on the details of the issue outlined in the Discussion section.

6. Recommendations:

a) What recommendations should be in place to make sure that the jury pool contains a fair cross section of the community?

b) What are types of evidence-based practices can be employed to have people of lower socioeconomic status more willing to serve on a jury?

c) Based on your analysis of the issue using conflict theory, what are the best practices to ensure random selection of individuals to serve on a jury?

d) Address what the impact of this issue is on the criminal justice system. Are more organizations than only courts affected by this?

Include examples of the impact on the different branches of the criminal justice system. Reference your course readings in your submission to support your answers.

Section 2: Marketing Budget (MS Excel worksheets template)

Section 2 uses the Business Plan Financials MS Excel template (see: Required Course Files in Week 1). Use the Business Plan Financials Guide (see: Required Course Files in Week 1) to support your development of the marketing budget.

  1. Complete the Marketing Budget worksheet for your company.

Note: Complete the Setup tab first based on the instructions located in the Business Plan Financials Guide (document you also downloaded from PlanningShop). Only the setup tab and marketing tab should be completed for this assignment.

  • Hints: The goal of the marketing budget is to help you determine how much it will cost you to reach your market and achieve your sales goals.
  • Hints: When filling out the Marketing Budget worksheet in the Excel spreadsheet, do the following:
    • Begin in the current year and complete a marketing budget for the first year of your business. The information you enter in the marketing budget spreadsheet will flow through to your Income Statement in the Business Plan Financials.
    • Leave the number at zero (0) for any marketing vehicles you do not intend to use.
    • Remember that all marketing activities involve costs. If social media represents a significant portion of your marketing, assume you will incur costs of advertising and these should be reflected on your budget. Even if a social media site charges nothing to use it, you will need to use company resources to manage the site, pay someone to execute your social media marketing campaigns, and most likely pay for ads on that site.
    • Do not leave the Marketing Budget blank assuming you will not have any marketing costs.
    • Do not complete all the rows; only fill in the costs for the marketing vehicles you will actually use. These must match the content you describe in Question 4 Word portion of this assignment.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Create a marketing plan that identifies a target market, market competition, a company message, and marketing vehicles for a company.

Read scenarios and answer questions.

1. Several employees, all Republican, employed by the Cook County Sheriffs Department in Illinois filed suit claiming that they were unconstitutionally removed from their jobs by the incoming Democratic sheriff.  In Cook County, it long had been the practice for an incoming sheriff of a different political party to replace employees with members of his own party if the holdover employees lacked or failed to obtain requisite support from the incoming party or to affiliate with it.  Accordingly, the Republican employees were dismissed solely because they neither supported nor were members of the Democratic Party and had failed to obtain the sponsorship of one of its leaders.  None of the dismissed employees held policy making positions.  Have their constitutional rights been violated?  Explain your answer in detail citing case law where applicable.

2. A high school teacher in Illinois was dismissed by his board of education for writing a letter to a local newspaper criticizing the board for allocating a disproportionate amount of school funds for athletic activities.  He claimed the board was spending $50,000 annually for the transportation of athletes.  His figures were wrong.  The school system was actually spending $10,000 a year.  The high school teacher’s letter was sent following several efforts by the board to raise funds by bond issues which had been defeated by the voters.

Note that there was never a question regarding the teacher’s competency.  The teacher in this situation claimed that his constitution rights were violated.  Was he correct?  Explain your answer.
