Historians conclude that while Reconstruction ended slavery after the Civil War in 1865, it failed to challenge the ideologies of race that once defended slavery.  As a result, racism continued to inform policies in the decades following the Civil War.  In this essay, explore the racial legacies of the Reconstruction era.  Give 3 separate, well-supported examples of racial legacies, or the way(s) in which racial formations significantly informed the development of American society between 1870-1940.  Use assigned readings and lecture to support your argument. 

Topics you might discuss:
the failure of Reconstruction to provide economic freedom for former slaves; rise of lynch law;
the rise of Jim Crow;
the rise of new race ideologies (like Social Darwinism or the science of race) and its influnece on immigration policy, citizenship decisions, the rise of a US Empire, or U.S. Indian policy.  [These are just suggestions.  Do not do all of these and you are not limited to these topics.]

Primary source choices:  Ida B. Wells, literacy test, black codes, Jim Crow laws, Mayor Landrieus speech, Haunani K. Trask, any of the doc excerpts from US-Philippines debate, Dennis Kearney, Lee Chew, Rose Cohen, stories from Balderamma interview, etc

  1. In the 1997 case of University and Community College System of Nevada v Farmer, Farmer was initially awarded $40K in damages for violation of the Equal Pay Act. The university won an appeal in front of the State of Nevadas Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case, leaving the lower courts verdict in place. Defend or critique the finding of the Nevada Supreme Court using a deontological or teleological approach.
  2. The WatchMark-Comnitel Corporation has undergone significant changes since their case of outsourcing. They were renamed Vallent Corporation, and later were acquired by IBM. This shows the competitive nature of the software industry. Based on this knowledge, examine the outsourcing actions taken by Watchmark-Comnitel from the deontological and teleological perspectives.
  3. Present an argument that it is easier for employers to comply with diversity legislation in Canada than it is in the United States.
  4. Select a source of media as outlined in Exercises in Media Diversity. Comment on the questions listed in the textbook for the media option you selected.

Hello,
I have attached the slideshow. Please fill out the empty slides with headings in red. The topic is about:
Definition of each colour in Ancient Egypt.
Usage of each colour in different artworks and their meaning in that context.
The most common and least common used colours.
The aim of this course is to collect academically sound sources to do research for this presentation. Please only use scholarly online databases and books (nothing published before copyright). Databases such as JSTOR and EBESCO are great. I have attached some academic sources I found. Please when filling out the slides with pictures in them anaylze them and talk about the usage of color in each of them and what each color represents in these artworks. Please fill each slide with plenty of insighful and academic information. Please use MLA in the works cited to list all sources used. If you could please incorporate some of the text written by rene dryfus.

 Students will be required to locate and research one  reentry program from any state other than Georgia. Quantitative data must be included in your summary; ie. The recidivism rate/success rate, etc. (In other words, we we are looking for statistical data indicating the program has been successful or not successful).
