Directions: Construct an argumentative essay in response to the following issue. The essay should be between 3 and 5 typewritten pages. If your essay involves research, make sure to include citations and a list of references.

There are people who will be voting for Trump in November because he supports their cause, whether it is pro-life, pro-gun, anti-immigration, etc. Some of those same people agree that Trump has solicited foreign intervention in the 2020 election, undermined the independence of the Justice Department and mislead the American public about the dangers of the Covid pandemic. They are still voting for him because they believe that their cause is more important than any defects he may have as president.

Task: Construct an argumentative essay that is either for or against voting for Trump because he supports a person’s cause in spite of him engaging in behavior that is either impeachable or unbecoming of a president.

Post engaging, thoughtful content
Share content that both reflects your understanding of the course material and makes appropriate applications beyond the assigned reading (insights, real-life examples).  Be sure to think of the posts as part of a larger conversation; ask/answer questions within the posts. Questions left unanswered may impact your score for that discussion.
Compose your responses in a word processing program
Consider using programs such as Word first; save this file to your computer or USB flash drive. Attach the file or copy and paste the text into the message area of the Discussion Board. Should there be an interruption in your Internet connection, you will not lose any work.
Word count
Initial posts must be greater than 250 words
Replies must be at least 75 words
No Fluff Zone
Please carefully review What is a Discussion Board  to thoroughly understand the definition of both an Initial Post and Reply.
Remember to write succinctly, i.e., in a brief and clearly expressed manner paying attention to fully respond to all questions.
Please note:  where you are welcome to include the original question in your initial post or reply, these are not included in the word count.
Carefully adhere to posting timelines
Generally, initial posts are due on Day 4 of a given week with a minimum of 2 replies to either peers or faculty by Day 7 of the same. This pacing allows peers to read/respond to classmates ideas.
Logging in and posting multiple posts on one day alone will not suffice.  Students should be actively engaged throughout the week to be eligible for full weekly credit.
Discussion Forums close weekly on Day 7. The ability to participate in/receive credit for a weeks discussion ends after that Day 7 mark.
Unfortunately, there is no way to grant extensions fairly for forums, no different than missing a class of a face to face course, participation is no longer possible after Day 4 for an initial post and Day 7 for peer replies.
Discussion Forum Grades
Students will be held accountable for and graded using the Discussion Board Rubric for both initial posts and replies.  Please refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric  for the criteria and grading standards used in all IU online discussion forum posts.

In preparation for this assignment watch the video A Class Divided located at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/class-divided/ (Links to an external site.).

Prepare a 750-1,000-word paper in which you address the following:

What stage of Piagets development are the children in this video in? Give some evidence (other than the childrens age) to support that children are functioning in this stage.  Is this a good way to teach children in this age group?  Why or why not?
How do you see self-fulfilling prophecy and learned helplessness portrayed in this video?
How was the self-esteem of the children effected by participating in this study? Why do you think the childrens test scores rose after participating in this experiment?
Give an example of how operant conditioning, classical conditioning and social observational learning were shown in this video. Be specific in your discussion.  For the discussion of classical conditioning, please write out the process.
How can you use Piagets theory and Kohlbergs theory to explain the different reactions of the adults and children during this study?
Which theory (theories) of personality can help us understand the behavior of the students in this video? Support your answer with a strong discussion of that theory.
Note: Your paper should follow APA format and include a title page and a reference page.

Submit your paper by Day 7 of Week 6 by clicking on the assignment in Canvas and uploading your document.

Objectives: (1) Students understand the behavior of individuals, differences and similarities in social and cultural contexts of human existence, and the processes by which groups function. (2) Students comprehend and assess individual and group values and their importance in
social problem solving and policymaking.

Overview:
Please choose a traditionally marginalized group of people (e.g. women, Black Americans, Muslims, LGBTQ+, etc…) and discuss how they were portrayed in communication (e.g. TV, movies, sitcoms, radio, etc…) historically (any time period you’d like) and compare it to today. Be sure to provide evidence to support your claims as this is not intended to be an opinion piece. You are also welcome to get quite specific if you find something that interests you. For example, a friend of mine does research on television portrayals of international doctors.

Guidelines:

Please respond in one APA style page (either APA 6th or 7th edition is fine, double spaced, 1 margins) and upload your response in a .doc or .docx  or pdf document.

Points will be deducted if your response is longer than one page.  Cover pages and reference pages do not count against your limit. Please provide a succinct but thorough response.  Learning to write within a word limit is a valuable skill.

Be sure to include references.  References and title pages do not count against your page limit.  You should start with a title page, then have your one-page response, then have a reference page.

General Grading Criteria

The following is a general guideline regarding the 5 different categories on the rubrics.  Please see comments in Carmen for more details when you get your grade back, but this is a general note:

Exceptional responses briefly but succinctly combine information from lecture and outside sources.  The response is extremely well written and organized. There is little to no room for improvement. Exceptional responses demonstrate that you can reiterate information from the lecture and other course materials, find and integrate additional relevant information on your own from sources outside of the course materials, and incorporate your own original analysis.

Above Average responses briefly but succinctly answer the questions, combining information from the class as well as information from outside class.  There is some additional information that may improve the response but overall it is above average.

Average responses meet the minimum requirements of the assignment.  However, information needs to be clarified or there is information that is incorrect.  Improvements could be made in organizing information from different sources.

Needs Improvement means there was some key information missing or inaccurate/irrelevant information included.

Not Addressed generally means that the information was missing or inaccurate.

Please answer the following questions.

Define transient exuberance and pruning.  Discuss why both phenomena are crucial to brain development and the consequences if these phenomena don’t occur normally.
What is the difference between experience-expectant and experience-dependent brain functions?  Explain how these functions differ and how important each one is for brain development.  Give at least one example of each.
Explain how early nurturing experiences by animal and human caregivers “sculpts” the brain influencing the ability to cope with stress and furthers cognitive development.  Discuss how nurturing helps the organism cope with stress. Provide an example, one for animal babies and one for human babies.
What should caregivers remember about brain development when an infant cries?  What should parents never do when an infant cries and why not?

EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION- OPTIONAL.  Explain how nurturing furthers cognitive development in animal babies and human babies.  Provide one example for each organism (i.e., one for animal babies and one for human babies.  HINT! In this case, nurturing refers to cognitive stimulation and addresses cognitive development, not ability to cope with stress (10 points).
The assignment (not including the extra credit question) is worth 44 points; with the extra credit question its worth 54 points.  Each question is worth 10 points.  The remaining 4 points are allocated as follows: 2 points for submission by due date and 2 points for a well written submission.  Word count for each question should be at least 70-90 words. Each question that does not meet the word count will lose 1 point. Extra points (beyond those awarded for the extra credit question) will be awarded for a very comprehensive response or one that goes beyond just answering the questions.

Read each question carefully and answer the question asked, not some other question. Most questions have more than one part; be sure to answer every part of each question.  Points will be deducted if a part of a question is left unanswered.

Use your textbook and power points as resources.  All responses must be written in your own words.  If I realize you have copied from the book I will give you a zero for the assignment.  All responses must be on Blackboard; please do NOT send them to me as an attachment.

The assignment is due on October 12th by 11:59

In this essay, you are reviewing a subject. The subject should be something that would typically be reviewed, such as:
An album
A restaurant
A product
A movie
A performance (a play, a concert, a comedy show, etc.)

Remember, you need the following elements:
I. An introduction that summarizes the subject, provides background information, and includes a thesis statement (a claim about the subject)
II. A discussion of multiple features of the subject considering both strengths and limitations. You have two options for how you approach the body of your essay:
a. you can use one section to discuss strengths, and another to discuss limitations
b. you can divide the subject up feature by feature, discussing strengths and limitations of each feature as you go
III. A conclusion that offers an overall judgement or assessment of the subject
Guidelines:
Length: minimum of 2.5 pages, double-spaced (this is not a suggestion but is a minimum requirementgrades for papers below the minimum length requirement will be considerably impacted). You may exceed the 2.5 pages, but try to keep it below 3 pages.
Point of View: 3rd  person with limited use of 1st person. Avoid 2nd person.
o Keep in mind this essay is not a narrative and should not read like a storyOne day I decided to go try Outlaws barbeque. I felt like bbq chicken and I also got a coke . . .
o With that said, some 1st person is allowed but keep the focus on the subject and not on your personal experience in experiencing the subject.

The CEO’s Challenge
Use the Week 3 Assignment Template to complete this assignment.

Choose a company to base this paper on. You may use a current or former employer, but do not disclose anything confidential. Or, you can pick another organization if you are familiar with their internal (not customer-facing) information systems. You can disguise the organization and populate it with famous names. Made-up companies are problematic because of the amount of detail and realism they require.

You’ve just left an all-hands meeting at this company. The CEO was very upset at the rise of shadow IT projects, a major indicator that the company’s internal information system has failed to meet its needs. Because the current information system is inadequate, inefficient, and outdated, the CEO is inviting everyone in the organization to propose a new operational, decision support, or enterprise information system to replace it. The executives have allocated $5 million to fund the most promising idea.

This is your chance to make a difference in the company (not to mention your own career). Write your proposal as a memo that the entire C-suite will review. Include at least these points, in your own words, to be persuasive:

Identify the main functions of your proposed information system and why they are important to the business.
Describe what types of data your information system will hold and how data quality will be ensured.
Explain how the old information system handles the functions you mentioned, the problems that occur, and why your information system will handle things better.
Offer evidence of feasibility: Show that similar information systems have been built successfully and that they save more money than they cost.
The executives are busy, so keep your memo to 14 pages and avoid any extraneous content.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

Develop an information systems solution to address an organizational problem.

The artworks weve looked at in this class very often contain details that are incredibly realistic. But weve also seen a number of works that present elements that depart dramatically from reality: e.g., unnaturally elongated or large or angular bodies, unnaturalistic backgrounds, odd spatial configurations, unusual colors, impossible poses. Discuss why artists sometimes departed dramatically from reality. How do such departures from reality enrich the meaning of artworks? To answer this, discuss four works, and for each provide no more than five sentences. Feel free to pick whatever examples you prefer from the material we discuss through class on October 8. But some works you might consider discussing include (in Snyders textbook): the painting on p. 2 (the Resurrection by the Master of Trebon Altarpiece); figure 2.22 (the Lamentation in the Rohan Hours); figure 2.37 (April in the Trs Riches Heures du Duc de Berry); figure 5.11 (van Eycks Madonna in the Church); figure 6.8 (van der Weydens Deposition); figure 7.6 (Petrus Christuss Virgin and Child in a Chamber). Again, these are just suggestions; there are other works you can also pick that are superb

Do some research on different kinds of quilt patterns and quilt square patterns.  Some have historic and social meaning.  For example, quilts were sometimes used as signals in the Underground Railroad to give directions or show what homes were safe.

Choose a square or pattern that you like.
Paraphrase and summarize the history and meaning behind the pattern, colors, size, recipients, use, etc.  Think deeply!
DO NOT copy and paste.
Explain why you chose it or what you like about it.
Cite your source(s) using MLA format.
