Adolescence AssignmentThe purpose of this assignment is to discuss physical, cognitive, and socioemotional changes that occur in the adolescent stage and analyze the effect of biological, environmental, and socioemotional changes in adolescence.

Read the scenario and apply what you have learned about adolescent development to help you answer the questions below.

Jessie is a quiet, 13-year-old girl in 8th grade who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Jessie lives with her parents, who are both fitness fanatics and frequent attendees at sporting events. Jessie has one older brother, James, 17. James is very outgoing, and a senior star football player who has already accepted a scholarship to play for a state university.  Jessies parents have been very involved in James football activities this year. Jesse, far more reserved than her brother, has resisted her parents constant urging to participate in sports, but she excels in the school band and is an above average student like her brother. Jessie is working hard to learn how to monitor her blood sugars and administer her own insulin injections, but it has been a frustrating process for her. She has missed a lot of school and she has not been able to spend much time with her few close friends.  Jessie is concerned about what her classmates might think of her now that she is sick. Jessies parents have made her go everywhere with them or have adjusted their schedules so she is never alone at home, for fear of her having a hypoglycemic episode while they are away. Jessie has become increasingly moody and has been prone to uncharacteristic fits of anger in the past few weeks.

Respond to the following questions in 1-2 paragraphs for each question.

Imagine you are a health care professional involved in Jessies care (e.g., physician, school nurse, physical therapist). Apply what you have learned about adolescent development and formulate a plan and/or recommendations for addressing Jessies care.

a.    Provide an explanation for Jessies parents about the role that puberty may be playing in her situation at this time.
b.    Identify two specific health-related factors of adolescence and analyze how these might pose risks or difficulties for Jessie. Identify what Jessies parents can do to help reduce the risks.
c.    Describe 2 cognitive changes that take place during adolescence to help explain Jessies current behavior.
d.    Describe how family systems are both potential barriers to and facilitators for Jessie in coping with this new diagnosis.
e.    Provide Jessies parents with two suggestions that could help stabilize their relationship with her.

Provide examples of ways to control crime, or crime prevention policiesother than those mentioned in the book chapterthat are consistent with (a) classical theories of crime and (b) positivist theories. In your response to your classmates, provide information to support their choices or provide alternatives.

These assignments require that you summarize a popular press article relating to Physiological Psychology.

Find a recent popular press article (Time, Slate, local newspaper, etc., published later than 2007 an electronic version is fine) relating to Physiological Psychology.  Attach a copy of the article to the assignment.
Summarize the article.
Why did you choose the article?  (That is, you probably found it interesting, but why?)
How does the article relate to topics weve covered in class?
Based on the class notes and text, how accurate is the article in its explanation of Physiological Psychology topics?

In your substantive essay,
        Discuss what role culture may play in attachment.
        Assess how being from a collectivist vs. an individualist culture makes a difference in infant attachment.
        Explain why or why not.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word summary that explores personality characteristics.

Address the following in your summary:

How do psychologists define personality? Provide an overview of the definition of personality.
Researchers use a number of different methods to study personality. Three of the most commonly used methods are case studies, correlational designs, and experimental designs or true experiments. How do these methods differ?
What kind of information does each method provide?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method?

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Assume you have been asked by the chief administrator of your school district to prepare a recommendation to a governing board for an IEP (individualized education plan) policy that involves the school transportation department. In other words, try to convince the board that the school transportation department should be involved in a students IEP process. Your recommendation should be in the form of a memorandum that includes the topics listed below.

-Introductory statement
-Summary of applicable law (with appropriate legal citation)
-Advantages of having the school transportation’s input in IEP determinations
-A proposed procedure in either narrative or flow-chart form.
-A concluding statement.

The proposed solution must be realistic and practical. This is not an APA paper but sources should be listed on resources page . It is a case-study-type memorandum simulation.

Write a 2,400 word paper comparing and contrasting three therapeutic interventions used to treat Alzheimer’s Disease.

Compare measures of effectiveness, such as validity, efficacy, symptom and behavior management, and recidivism. One therapy should be cognitive in nature, one should be pharmacological in nature, and one should be an alternative therapeutic treatment.

Identify common symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s Disease and rates of symptom reduction or management as reported with the three treatments.
