1) What critiques does Hittell make against California land policies towards Mexican-Americans?
2) Why did maintaining their former land holding, social standing, and prosperity remain tenuous for Mexican Americans, even though it was supposed to be protected by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo?

Holly

“Last night, my mom called and said she’d be late getting home from work, so I made dinner. I was tired after my classes and I had a lot of homework to get to, so I kept it simple. I made vegetarian quesadillas with flour tortillas, canned green chilies, cheese, and sour cream; plus, we each had a few baby carrots on the side. Later that night, while I was studying, I got really hungry, so I raided a package of sugar-free cookies. They’re sweetened with sorbitol and taste just like real cookies! I ate maybe three or four, but I didn’t think it was a big deal because they’re sugar-free. Then, when I checked the package label this morning, I found out that each cookie has 90 Calories! It bummed me outuntil those cookies, I’d been making really healthy choices!”

Your Advice for Holly;

Without knowing the exact ingredients in Hollys dinner and snack, would you agree that, prior to the cookies, she’d been “making really healthy choices”? Why or why not?
How might she have changed the ingredients in her quesadillas to increase their fiber content?
If the cookies were sugar-free, how can you explain the fact that each cookie still contained 90 calories?
Suggest at least 3-4 specific alternative eating choices (meal or snack ideas) as it relates to the case study prompt.

Film: Train to Pusan (2016)

In the reading for this week, Rushton argues that zombie films are inherently moral, revealing the manner in which the cardinal virtues (love, kindness, cooperation) lead to survivalor rather, that the lack of these virtues leads to death and, inevitably, undeath (5).  How is Train to Pusan an example of this assertion?  Where do we see virtue leading to survival and/or hatred, selfishness, etc. leading to death?  What do you think the moral of this film is?
