Instructions

Part I should include a description and background on the selected organization (industry, size, scope, etc.), why the company, division or department was selected (describe the crises, change processes, functions, culture), and a discussion of the results of the Organizational Diagnosis Questionnaire. Your submission should include the completed Organizational Diagnosis Questionnaire and sources. Estimated page count 4-5 pages single-spaced.

Organizational Diagnosis Applied Project

For this assignment, each student will identify an organization. Preferably this is an organization that the student has first hand experience working at and which is either undergoing a crisis (outlining a need for change) or pursuing an active change.

Students will then complete the Organizational Diagnosis Questionnaire, gather information (via secondary means as well as interviews with 3-5 different employees), and choose some aspects of the organization to study based upon your initial findings. Throughout this diagnostic and data collection process you will apply appropriate theories and concepts you learned in class to the chosen organization.

There are three deliverables associated with this project.

1)Organizational Diagnosis Applied Project, Part 1 (50 points)

Part I should include a description and background on the selected organization (industry, size, scope, etc.), why the company, division or department was selected (describe the crises, change processes, functions, culture), and a discussion of the results of the Organizational Diagnosis Questionnaire. Your submission should include the completed Organizational Diagnosis Questionnaire and sources. Estimated page count 4-5 pages single-spaced.

Review the art, documents, and artifacts presented over the course of the semester so far (you can even peek ahead to Module 6 on Modernism if you want). Select one specific artifact that you believe would best represent the cultural complexity and reality of America 1900.

Your selections may include examples of visual art, literature, or other historical documents like letters – basically any cultural object that might be exhibited in a museum or library. Your selections should be specific, however. For example, “landscape paintings” is not a specific selection. Instead choose one specific painting that you want represented.

Explain your reasons for why this selection is a meaningful choice to represent the history and human experience of the United States circa 1900. How did you make your decision? Were you aware of certain criteria or cultural values that influenced your selections? Can we be honest with each other about what selecting that one artifact would leave out of the story of 1900?.

This review will be on a documentary video about volcanoes that you watch at home. I want your personal opinion of the video. Use the knowledge that you have gained from your studies about volcanoes to construct a reasonable critique (pro or con is fine) of the video. Any documentary is fine as long as it is compatible with the theme of volcanoes and is at least 30 minutes long. Reviews should consist of between 750 and 1000 words. You can watch documentaries on television, Netflix, YouTube, websites, or any other source that you can find. Feel free to be as creative as you like. Reviews will be submitted via the “Assignment” section (formally Dropbox) of BlazeVIEW. Read the movie review guidelines that are posted in the Class Documents section in the Content area in BlazeVIEW. Late reviews will be docked 10 points.

All movie reviews must include the following information at the top of the review:

1.  The name of documentary (first 6 reviews)
2.  Medium used to view film (History Channel, DVD rental, Netflix, YouTube)
3.  Approximate length of film
4.  Classmates who watched with you (this is absolutely OK, feel free to organize viewing parties)
5.  Your star ranking for the film (out of a total possible 5 stars)

After watching the silent film The Great Train Robbery (link provided in the module), read more about the history behind its creation and how innovative it was for the time on this webpage at the Museum of Modern Art: https://www.moma.org/learn/moma_learning/edwin-s-porter-the-great-train-robbery-1903/

How does understanding more about the earlier experiments in film and cinema make you think about the psychology of watching movies or television shows today – whether in a theatre, at home, on a personal device?

Challenge yourself to get out of your 2019 mindset to imagine what the film viewing experience would have been like at the turn of the century.

Compose a post of at least five complete, well-written sentences

10 A – Spend some time looking at Stieglitz’s The Steerage. Slow down and really look at the formal elements and composition of the photograph.

How does his formal approach to composing the photograph make this image more a work of Modernism than the Realistic approaches to photography we have seen earlier in the semester.

Remember to draw upon the Elements of Art and Principles of Design terms to support your position and aim for at least 200 – 250 words in your response.

10 B – After reviewing the material on Olga Nethersole and Loie Fuller, reflect on how these women’s artistic performances can be understood to be moving their respective fields into a “modern” period. Again, aim for at least 200 – 250 words in your response.

Prepare a 3-5 page paper based on your on-line research.

You are a senior executive of a firm that is seeking to expand globally.  The CEO has tasked you to develop a Business Plan.  During this case study, analyze the product/service that you identified in Global Business Plan Activity #1.

For this case study, the CEO asked you to analyze the best approach for establishing the facility for your global product/service.  If you are studying a product, you might propose to open a manufacturing or distribution plant.  If you will provide a global service, you could study the best way to establish a call center or service center.  During this case study, apply and refine your preliminary plans presented in Global Business Plan Activity #2.

Review Chapters 8, 13 and 14 of your Global Business Today text.  Pay particular attention to the “Entry Modes” section of Chapter 13 (pages 363-371).  For each of the following entry modes, (a) describe the approach, (b) discuss the general pros and cons, and (c) analyze whether the entry mode might be a good choice (or not) for your product/service.  Use Table 13.1 on page 370 as a guide.

Exporting
Turnkey Project
Licensing
Franchising
Joint Venture
Wholly-owned Subsidiary
Finally, propose one entry mode for the country you have identified in your Business Plan.  Explain your rationale.

9A – For all our conversation about Realism and Naturalism, how can we understand the fancifulness and near romanticism of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Shows? Can we reconcile a growing readership’s/viewership’s appreciation of “reality” and attention to social inequities with the extreme social stereotypes used in the production of the “entertainment” of these shows? They were very popular in both the U.S. and on tours in Europe. Reflect on what the popularity of these shows might reveal to us about the paradoxes or tensions with U.S. culture circa 1900 in at least 200 – 250 words.

9B – In preparation for your primary sources assignment, brainstorm in part 9B of this journal what kinds of artifacts you would hope to discover in your research. What are you interested in finding? What sort of social, cultural, artistic, or historical questions would you like to find reflected in the primary sources in your search? Going into the assignment, what might be some research strategies or key words that would lead you in a good direction?

(Your response here will not lock you in to what you produce for the final primary sources assignment – research usually yields at least some unexpected surprises.)

and The Future of Your Future is Servant-Leadership” at

Write an essay of 3 pages in length.

First, view the Servant-Leadership as a Sustainable Business Model video.  Summarize the evidence about the bottom line effect of using the servant-leadership model.  What is your opinion – do you think that it will have a positive effect if practiced in any organization?  Or are there limits to the application and effectiveness of servant-leadership?  [1 page]

Then view the The Future of Your Future is Servant-Leadership video.  Write a reflection on servant-leadership in a global context.  Based on what you have learned in this course or experienced previously, is servant-leadership applicable in global organizations?  Can this theory work if implemented in other countries?  Why or why not?  Give concrete examples from the video, your own research, or your personal experience.  Is servant-leadership something you (personally) might apply when working in an international business or not-for-profit?  [1 page]

Finally, review “The World’s 10 Top CEOs — They Lead in a Totally Unique Way” at https://www.inc.com/marcel-schwantes/heres-a-top-10-list-of-the-worlds-best-ceos-but-they-lead-in-a-totally-unique-wa.html (Links to an external site.).

Pick one of these CEOs and reflect on their servant-leader style. What did you find most interesting about this person?  Did their servant-leadership approach seem to work for them?  Do you think it might work for you?  Why or why not?  [1 page]
