After studying the assigned readings for week 5, synthesize what you have learned by completing the following in essay format. Search online and find a website for an organization that has a campaign promoting a core issue that interests you (for example: The Red Cross and need for blood donations. NOTE: You may not use the example assignment just named here.).

Start your essay with a short overview of the organization and the issue (just a few lines) and then consider the topics we have covered in this weeks readings and discuss how they are reflected in what you see on this website.

What clear messages do you see?

What audiences is the institution trying to reach?

How has technology affected the way this organization presents itself?

Consider issues of Media Ethics and how they are represented or manifested in the website. Draw on examples offered on that website to support your observations. Specifically consider the content of 21st Century Communication: A Reference Handbook: Chapter 77: “Theories and Effects of Public Relations,” under the section Assumptions and Lay Theories. Which of these theories does the content of your chosen site most closely align with? Why? Explain your answer.

The essay should be in 12pt type, no more than 2 pages in length, double spaced. Approximately 500-600 words, and must be properly cited throughout the paper in APA format and must contain a Reference List. Support your responses with research from the Learning Resources.

1. Set up script that provides a weather alert. Make sure your program does the following:

Set the temperature to be a variable.
If the temperature is 90 degrees or above, the program alerts a heat advisory
If the temperature is 80 – 90, the program alerts hot temperatures, etc.
Show at least five levels of weather alerts.
Use either an IF statement or a SWITCH statement to determine what type of advisory to give for the temperature variable.

2. You need to discuss a new feature for your weather alert program. For example, you may discuss how you could use other parameters of the weather – such as humidity and then show this in conjunction with the heat advisory. I am not expecting you to forecast the weather, but rather provide a more detailed alert.

In a minimum of four double-spaced pages, identify and briefly discuss three of your current key managerial strengths and three areas that need improvement.  You should draw on and refer to class assessments including the MBTI and the skill-building worksheets, and your own experiences.  A few points to consider:

(1) Areas for improvement may be skills and abilities you have not yet had the chance to develop or demonstrate.

(2) You may be tempted to move from identifying strengths/opportunities to ways to address them. For this part of the assignment, just identify them.

(3) Be thoughtful and select those you feel are most important to you.

This paper forms the groundwork for the Action Planning paper that is due at the end of the semester, so be thorough and thoughtful.

Evaluation:  This assignment will be evaluated based on clarity of ideas and expression, thoroughness, and thoughtful analysis to support your choices as well as your use of concepts learned in this class.

Write a typed paragraph of 250 words or more that identifies and discusses one way in which the novel Wieland characterizes/defines/describes/represents American culture. Your paragraph should identify the title, Wieland; or, the Transformation, and author, Charles Brockden Brown.

The Biweekly Writings are opportunities for you to develop claims of your own about the assigned readings. You should not do outside research to formulate claims. You do not need to develop a thesis on the literature, but you should offer your own clear interpretation of specific examples in at least one of the assigned texts. You may summarize, paraphrase, and/or quote specific examples. You can build on one or more Biweekly Writing in your Essay for this course.

Save each Biweekly Writing in a MS Word or PDF file. Format the Biweekly Writing in MLA style: include a heading, a header, a centered title, and a first-line indented paragraph. Rather than title the assignment Biweekly Writing, come up with a concise and catchy title of your own that reflects the focus of your paragraph. You do not need to include a Works Cited page.

Post an example of a successful marketing campaign that has approached one or more stages of the communication process in a creative way to connect with a target audience. Comment on the following:
Using the model of the communication process, comment on why the campaign in your example was successful.
Talk about what was sticky about the campaign.
Discuss the influencer (s) in the campaign (use the WOMMA guidebook)
Comment as to why you think that messaging resonates with the target audience.
Communication Process: The rapidly changing media environment is making it more and more difficult for marketers to reach their target audience. Consumers do not want to be passively marketed to, they want to be more actively engaged in the communication process. As such, marketers are challenged to come up with campaigns that resonate with and engage their target audience. Proctor & Gamble’s “Like a Girl” campaign described in your book is a great example of how P & G found a meaningful way to connect with their target audience.  Many companies have found unique ways to connect with their audience by thinking outside the box in one or more stages of the communication process.

Students are required to write a paper that (1) applies an ethical theory to a (2) documented ethical dilemma.

In this paper students will need to select an ethical dilemma.  A good dilemma should be a practical problem that requires action, but whose options for action each represent a moral problem of some sort.  Examples of ethical dilemmas include, but are not limited to abortion, climate change, genetic engineering, social policy, political policy, business activities, and so forth.

After choosing a dilemma, students should research the problem so as to document the moral problem and the proposed practical options.  In the paper student will choose 1 ethical theory (deontology, utilitarianism, virtue theory, egoism, or natural law theory), explain the theory in detail using original source material, and (3) offer a solution to the moral dilemma through a moral analysis of the issue from the vantage point of the chosen ethical theory.

For this presentation, at least four different credible sources of information are required.  Sources refer to the people or places where you get your information for your speech, such as books, articles, websites, documentaries, interviews with people credible on your topic, etc.  This will require RESEARCHand good, credible research at that, so please follow the guidelines established in your textbook for evaluating source credibility

****This means that general reference sources will not be accepted (e.g., Wikipedia, about.com, ehow.com, howstuffworks.com, dictionaries or encyclopedias in print or online), nor will secondary sources that simply list statistics or quotes (e.g., statistics.com, quotegarden.com), or anything else listed in your bibliography without a specific author/title of the website. *********

ALL OF THE SOURCES SHOULD BE FROM A USA WEBSITE*****
