Overview
For this assignment, you will choose a popular culture example you want to analyze using ideological approaches learned in class. This can be a television/streaming program, a podcast, film, or game. You will write your second paper on the same example, if possible.

Purpose
The goal of the exercise is for you to consider how a particular media example plays a role in broader social constructions and ideas. This paper gives you the opportunity to use media analysis on a cultural example that interests you. In the process, you will apply critical and analytical thinking and explore the ethical impact of popular culture.

Length:
35 pages, double spaced, 1-inch margins

Sources:
Required: At least one scholarly reading from Unit 1 (journal article or scholarly book chaptergenerally not urls).

Required: Chicago or APA style: Use proper citations for sources and for your media example. See Purdue Ow (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.l for guidance.

Instructions:
Using information about Ideology and meaning (Nealon, Applequist, Castleberry, Hall) reflect on the following:

How does my chosen text utilize hegemony and/or counter-hegemony? Or, do an encoding/decoding analysis. Either way, make sure to do the following:

Describe the program, including the basic premise and details that are critical to your analysis (such as character, language, setting)
Illustrate how the program/film operates ideologically using details that function hegemonically or that are encoded.
See Castleberry or Applequist for models, but do your own explanatory work (i.e., dont define the theory by simply quoting).
Your paper must include:
A clearly articulated thesis statement
An introduction in which you establish your major lines of argument regarding the role the film or TV show plays within the larger structure of the media industry and the approach that you have chosen to analyze the text (hegemony/counter-hegemony or encoding/decoding).
A body that expands upon and provides arguments and evidence to support your thesis (see below):
Clearly define and explain the theoretical approach you are using
Draw on the theoretical approach to analyze the media text of your choice.  Use the above questions under each option to hone your analysis.
Support your claims with details and illustrations that relate to your media text
Utilize the concepts provided in course readings and discussions to support your arguments and analyses
A brief conclusion in which you point to the political stakes and implications of your argument.

It has been a year since the new CEO has been on the job, and the organization has seen sustainable growth. The former CEO came out of retirement to be elected the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. At a recent meeting of the Board of Directors, the Chairwoman of the Board discussed the possible investment opportunities in the energy industry. She has asked you to prepare a case study on an energy company to establish if it is a good choice to include in the companys investment portfolio.

Using CTU Library resources, choose a company in the energy industry and prepare a case study that addresses the following points:

Introduction: Including a description of the company, its industry, and its business context.
Organizational analysis: Including the companys leadership, market, operations, finances, performance, and regulatory environment.
Critical incidents: Including any stories of the organizations challenges or achievements. How did it overcome the challenges? How did it accomplish its achievements?
Investment potential: Including any of its current issues that need to be addressed or its potential goals for growth.
Recommendation: Including how the investment might help the organization to address its current issues or realize its potential for growth.
Provide a reference list at the end of your case study of at least 10 CTU Library articles and include in-text citations for the articles in APA format.

Some vulnerable populations may have diseases, health impairments, and pregnancy that bring humiliation and predisposed judgment. Unfortunately, these health conditions can cause vulnerable populations to become ostracized by the general public.

What ways would you choose to function as an advocate for vulnerable populations?
Discuss the types of assistance you might provide to each of the following clients from a vulnerable population:
A 24-year-old pregnant woman who is currently homeless and unmarried
A 16-year-old girl who has run away from her foster home and who has an IV drug habit
An immigrant worker whose TB skin test just came back positive
An employed, married man who contracted Hepatitis B through a blood transfusion 30 years ago

The Chairwoman of Board of Directors has selected you to lead the effort to create an international internship program for your organization. You will be leading a cross-cultural virtual team, including the vice president (VP) of human resources and department heads from all areas of the organization from its locations throughout the United States. The team is responsible for developing a 3-month summer program for 50 international interns. The international interns will be selected from university programs in their home country, will travel to the organizations U.S. locations, will live and work in the United States, and then may have the potential to be offered a permanent position with the organization.

Using the Bloomberg Businessweek B-school connection program, research global organizational culture and respond to the following questions:

What best practices do you recommend for leading a virtual cross-cultural team? What is the difference between leading a U.S.-based virtual cross-cultural team and a global virtual cross-cultural team?
What are the legal or regulatory factors that the team needs to consider for the interns to be employed in the United States?
How will the organization onboard the interns and introduce them to U.S. culture? What types of activities can be hosted for the interns to celebrate their diversity?
What are the benefits of the international internship program to the interns and to the organization?
Provide a reference list at the end of your primary task response of at least 5 articles from Bloomberg Businessweek B-school connection program, and include in-text citations for the articles in APA format.

Several populations face multiple health risks across their lifespan. Children and adolescents are a population that is at a higher health risk for obesity. A national movement is underway to reduce risk factors for developing obesity in children. Part of this movement is the “Let’s Move!” campaign, which is a comprehensive and coordinated initiative to prevent childhood obesity. The initiative emphasizes four primary components: healthy schools, access to affordable and healthy food, raising children’s physical activity levels, and empowering families to make healthy choices. Review Healthy People 2020:
Identify risk factors for childhood obesity.
Do the risk factors differ and how do they differ between children and adolescents?
Identify objectives that will combat childhood and adolescent obesity.
Provide suggestions on how community health nurses can contribute to these national health objectives and accomplish the goal of decreasing obesity among this population.
