Officer Williams is an officer with the Richmond police department and has been with the department for five years. He received information that a citizen living in the local housing project was selling drugs. This information was conveyed to Officer Williams by an anonymous caller to the officer on his personal cell phone. Officer Williams immediately went to the housing project and stopped the citizen as he was leaving his apartment. Officer Williams searched the citizen and found drugs.

Write a 1- to 2-page paper in which you:

Identify the constitutional amendment that would govern Officer Williams’ actions. In your own opinion, discuss if you support his actions or not. Justify your answer using the appropriate case law and Supreme Court precedents.
Analyze the validity and constitutionality of Officer Williams’ actions.
Determine whether or not Officer Williams’ actions were justified by any of the three (3) ways whereby probable cause can be established. Provide a rationale for your response.

According to the textbook, prison reform is often effectuated by and through the legislature. Often, these changes are meant for improvement; however, they can have an unintended consequence. Imagine that you are a state legislator that heads a committee for the Department of Corrections. Your responsibilities include recommending improvements to the correctional system, both domestic and international, (e.g., Guantanamo Bay). Analyze the goals of using intermediate sanctions and the pros and cons associated with them. Then, choose two of the types of intermediate sanctions and determine situations in which each of these two types would be appropriate. Lastly, take a position on whether or not you believe that there is value in their use. Justify your response.

In your discussion, identify the video scenario that you chose. Six people have been charged with a plot to kidnap Michigans Democratic governor, Gretchen Whitmer, that involves links to a rightwing militia group, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced.  Another seven people were charged with plotting to target law enforcement and attack the state capitol building. The state attorney general, Dana Nessel, announced additional charges under Michigans anti-terrorism law. Seven men, all in custody, are linked to the militia group Wolverine Watchmen.

They are suspected of attempting to identify the homes of law enforcement officers to target them, made threats of violence intended to instigate a civil war. They also planned and trained for an operation to attack the Michigan capitol building to kidnap government officials, including the governor, and to gather information on law enforcement officers to kill them. Nessel said.

Adam Fox, one of the six men who was charged in the plot, was quoted saying he needed “200 men” to attack the Capitol in Lansing and take hostages, including Whitmer.  “Snatch and grab, man. Grab the f—in’ governor. Just grab the b—-,” Fox said during a July 27 meeting recorded by an informant, according to the affidavit. “Because at that point, we do that, dude it’s over.”

The FBI said in an affidavit that the plot to kidnap Whitmer had involved reaching out to members of a Michigan militia. The criminal complaint states that the alleged plot involved her second home in northern Michigan.  Several members talked about murdering tyrants or taking a sitting governor, an FBI agent wrote in the document. The group decided they needed to increase their numbers and encouraged each other to talk to their neighbors and spread their message.

The six men charged with plotting against Whitmer were arrested on Wednesday night and each faces up to life in prison. US attorney Andrew Birge called them violent extremists.
