MT400-2: Analyze the role of planning and metrics in a successful Business Process Management
(BPM) project.
In this Assignment, you are going to evaluate a specific business process based on criteria detailed
below. If you already have selected a business process, continue using that and skip to the next
paragraph. If you have not yet selected the business process you will use for these Assignments,
then begin by selecting one. Email your instructor and clearly describe the objective of this process, the
participants, and the strategic significance forthe company. The business process you select must have
a clear beginning and an end, with identifiable, specific steps. Your instructor will confirm that the
process you selected is suitable or will ask you to select another one.
Part 1: The Stakeholders
Answer the following questions:
1) Who are the stakeholders in your selected business process, besides those that are directly
involved in the execution of it? List at least two people/groups and explain their relationship/
connection to the process. Also describe what they expect from this project.
2) What is this process intended to accomplish? What constitutes success? Focus on the selected
process, not the organization in general. Be specific about both of these elements (definition of goals
and success).
Part 2: Metrics
List three metrics that you think can help you quantify the performance of the selected business
process currently. List and define the metrics clearly, explain why each metric is important in the
assessment of the process, and then give an example of the statistic units. For example, if your
metric is speed of processing, it may be defined by how quickly each employee audits a tax form,
and the example would be that on average you would expect eight tax forms audited per hour.
Metric 1:
1. Definition
2. Significance in assessment
3. Example
Repeat this format for all three.
Part 3: Quick Wins
Identify two quick wins for your process. For each, describe (a) what they are, (b) how they can be
accomplished quickly and (c) why they will provide a boost to the project.

Pick one of the prompts below:

1. Define culture and explain what is meant by culture as “symbolic construction.” Then, explain how understanding culture in this way impacts the study of organizations.

2. What are some differences in viewing organizations as culture versus classical management (ch. 3) or systems (ch. 4) approaches? In what was are the perspectives similar?

3. Briefly explain one of the “three views” of organizational culture

In this assignment, you will record and transcribe your conversation with at least 3 people and write a 3/5-page paper that reflects on concepts learned in the course thus far. More specifically, you will audio-tape, record, and transcribe conversations with a friend, significant other, family member, coworker, etc. Make sure to ask the people you interview for their permission to record the conversation for the class. Considering the length of time it takes to transcribe, you should only transcribe five to ten minutes of each of the conversations you record. Projects will be graded on originality, completeness, and integration of concepts introduced in the course. This assignment should help you understand the intricate dynamics involved in everyday conversations.

Considerations for a successful paper:

Arrange a meeting with the other people and make sure to explain that this paper is for a class assignment. The outcome of the conversation, in this instance your paper, will not be published. This is important to share out-loud for ethical reasons.
You will need an audio recording device. The conversation might take place online. If you use tools provided by USF (e.g., Microsoft Teams), you should be able to record the conversation without a problem.
Steps for successful completion of the assignment:

After the conversations that you have carefully recorded, thank the people and make sure to ask if they would like to receive a copy of your paper. Then,

Transcribe, write down word for word, part if not all of the conversations.
Read the transcript once; the initial reading should give you an indication of main themes.
During a second reading; highlight the passage that reflect the main themes
In a final reading of the transcript, you should be able to connect certain themes and draw (perhaps) broader themes that will become the main points of your essay
Requirements:

In three to five pages (bibliography and title page not included), write about;

what happened in the conversation as evidenced in the transcript and your own experience,
how do conversations illustrates topics and concepts discussed in the course.
You are required to cite at least three references from peer-reviewed sources (academic journal articles, books, book chapters, etc.)

Be creative in the transcription of the conversation, that is in writing the final polished version of the essay.

Do not submit the transcripts and the recordings. Submit the essay, only.

It is important to identify what issues will be targeted before revision can begin in the upcoming Innovate phase. In the Understand phase, you conduct root cause analysis, which not only helps to determine the right problems to attack, but also to gather an understanding of where you are currently and where you need to be. Correct identification will allow you to make quick improvements, which would not be possible if you only treated the symptoms.

For this Discussion topic, first:

Explain, in your own words, the difference between root cause analysis and simply identifying issues in a process.
Then, research and describe an article or a case study where a company has performed a successful root cause analysis. This means they went deeper than identifying just the symptoms.

Explain what the symptoms were and what root causes they identified as the culprits.
How did this analysis help the company create quantifiable, specific targets/objectives in their improvement efforts?
Make sure to describe how they accomplished this; there are various specific methodologies beyond sitting and talking in a room that can be used for this purpose. For example, root cause analysis is part of Six Sigma, which has specific tools for carrying this out.

If you cannot clearly show the distinction between the root causes and symptoms in the case, then you do not have the right case. You are not looking for cases where someone just identified problems by talking to people root cause analysis is a very specific term that describes using formal methodologies to go beyond the most obvious issues. Your example should demonstrate this in-depth analysis.

Although targeting selected market segments for advertising and marketing messages would seem to be a sound strategy for any company, there can be difficulties. Some companies have been accused of using segmentation approaches that discriminate against certain groups within society. Complaints have been raised about potential discrimination based on race, culture, age, gender, and sexual lifestyle.

Assume that you have been asked to review segmentation profile practices. Pick one company that you believe avoids discrimination in market targeting and one company that you believe does not. Compare and contrast the two companies with respect to their market target selection process and how the market targets are approached. Comment on any perceived ethical practices that you are aware of. Be sure to check any information on ethics provided by researching the Web sites of your two example companies. Lastly, list the ethical guidelines or best practices you believe organizations should follow when selecting market targets. Be prepared to discuss your thoughts and position.

Select a sample of social media content (from Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, or any other social media platform with which you are familiar and that is substantially/primarily text rather than images) that consists of at least 10 posts, tweets, or comments totaling at least 250 words. You may do this by simply copying and pasting posts from a web browser, or by using R (or another tool) to grab a sample (a screenshot is OK too but will limit your options for analysis). Choose an analytic strategy: you might hand-code, read holistically, use comments in Word, use software such as Atlas,ti, or calculate sentiment or other attributes using R (or another tool).

The content analysis assignment will have three products for submission:

1. A memo of around 750 words describing what you wanted to know or thought you might find, how you chose your sample and why, what you found (be thoughtful about how or whether your findings are generalizable), and how you might improve on it in further research.

2. The text you analyzed.

3. Documentation/representation of your coding/analytic strategy.

This may be combined with 2, for example, you might list everything in a Word document with all of the text and the comments where you’re making notes about it, or output from R that includes both the text of tweets you analyzed and their sentiment score, etc. If utilizing the ouput from R, scan and upload.

Choose five articles that meet the criteria below. Read each one, and take notes using the notes feature in Zotero. Your notes can be in narrative/paragraph form or bullet points or any other format that works for you, but must be at least 250 words for each article, including the key points and conclusions, some description of the case/evidence/methods used, and your assessment of the article, including any concerns you have about its methodology, validity, generalizability.

Published in 2010 or later
At least two of the articles must use qualitative methods
At least two of the article must use quantitative methods
One can be a book
Must be a peer reviewed/referred journal

Gathering physiological data on consumers can be difficult; however, in the future we may all be providing such data every time we enter a store. Imagine entering a store and having your face mapped via an infrared sensor. Your face map is then used to match you against a data bank of shopper profiles suggesting whether or not you are in a mood to buy. Does this sound too futuristic?

Face mapping is currently receiving a lot of attention from a variety of quarters. Security experts tell us that face mapping can alert security services to certain profiled behaviors. Dermatologists say face mapping may provide solutions to long-term skin care. Others say that face mapping can be used to insert a persons picture in real-time advertisements. Thats rightyoull be in the ad that you see in the store or are viewing on a screen. You could watch yourself flying a helicopter in a U.S. Army ad, see yourself walking across the graduation stage in a college recruitment ad, or check yourself out as you model the latest fashion that the store has to offer.

Research the subject of face mapping via secondary research sources. Think of a new application (i.e., idea generation) for face mapping and describe it. Describe how you would test to see if your new application might work. What ethical and legal issues might face mapping bring if it was practiced on a large scale? Summarize your thoughts on the application and future of this technique.
