You should include an introduction (where your thesis appears), an explanation of the topic, a series of arguments to support your opinion, and a conclusion. Keep in mind that your main objective is to convince the reader that there is a connection between your example and social structures, so sell it well. You should include a preliminary thesis, state key questions it will address, and convince the reader of the importance of these questions. You should also include references (academic or not) that help you support your thesis.
My Notes:
You can include topics such as gender inequality and how we still struggle with them today….

Discussion Forum Topic: The article Navigational Acts as well as the lessons presentation point to some economic outcomes of mercantilism. What is the lasting economic and political legacy of mercantilism that survived the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries? Do you see the effects of mercantilism today?

Identify ideal characteristics for a society
Myths, epics, and fiction can tell us about the society which created them. For this unit, you will read four stories from four very different societies and time periods. They are not directly comparable in time or location but you are practicing an important skill for historians or other analysts: reading texts to understand the surrounding society. I have provided brief plot summaries for the three larger stories. These summaries are only for background to help so you don’t get lost in the stories. Your papers should be based on the actual primary sources provided below.

In this assignment,  identify the main characteristics of the hero or villain in two of these stories. The hero’s characteristics (brave, loyal, smart, etc.) would be ideal characteristics, as would be the opposite of the villain’s characteristics (cowardly, disloyal, stupid, etc.). For example, there are stories created about two hundred years ago of George Washington being a very honest and very religious man. Those characteristics were valued by Americans of that time period. (They might still be valued; that’s a different analysis.)

Explain the evolution of slavery in Colonial America. How did it begin? Where was it centered? Was it different between the colonies? Did it changeor evolve over time? And what contributions did slaves have upon American culture and society in Colonial North America (THIS IS MY TOPIC)
USE THE TEXT BOOK, “Brinkley, Alan. Unfinished Nation: Concise History of American People”
Be sure to write in third person

Instructions

Purpose:

Throughout the semester, you will be required to read Primary and Secondary Source material and write up individual answers to questions based on those documents.  The purpose of these assignments is to assess the students ability to effectively analyze a question, gather appropriate information from the source or sources at hand, and write a well organized, college/university level answer that reflects the basic expectations of a history survey course.  Each paper submitted is worth 50 points – 25 pts. per source analyzed and questions answered.  (There are two sources in each Module).

Expectations:

Answers are to be in complete sentences and written in a manner demonstrating college-level communication skills.  Answers that consist of one or two sentences are generally not indicative of excellent work and will be graded accordingly (unless the question dictates otherwise).  Answers that consist of several paragraphs but lacking in critical analysis and proper support are also not indicative of excellent work and will be graded accordingly.  Be sure to support your answers/arguments with appropriate examples/quotes from the sources.  ***Proofread your work before final submittal.

Submittal:

The paper must be submitted to the Dropbox by the specific due date.  **Remember, no late assignments will be accepted.  Each paper will be automatically submitted to TurnItIn to check for plagiarism, so be sure to use quotes and cites accordingly.

Formatting:

For these modest writing assignments, the following formatting guidelines apply:

1).  Please put your name on this paper.

              2).  Paper must be typed.

3).  1-inch margins should be used.

4).  12-point font should be used

5).  For each source, identify the source at the top of the page, Copy and Paste, or, write out each question as provided to you on the Short Answer Question sheet.  Then, provide your answer directly after the posted question.

Historians still debate the extent to which the New Deal contributed to the end of the Great Depression, but there is no denying that it left America, and the American government, in a different place.

In no less than approximately 250 words, discuss and describe the responsibilities of the federal government during an economic crisis.  Why?  Is there a danger that assistance will lead to dependence?  Explain why or why not.  You must support your post with specific examples and be sure to be specific in your reasoning.  Think of your post as the start of a conversation with your fellow students.
