Writers Choice

The assignment is to create a PowerPoint presentation (or other multimedia presentation) on a legendary figure, place, item, or event from world literature (1600 CE or earlier). It should contain roughly 800-1200 words of text and some form or forms of other media (art, music, etc.).  This length requirement will bend a bit depending on the project type, so contact me with any questions you have.

Note that all writing in the project should be original; the projects will be run through Turnitin upon submission, and all distinctive matching information caught by Turnitin must be formatted as a quotation. DO NOT copy-paste material without immediately marking it as a quotation and citing it. Any multimedia (art, music) inserted or linked in the presentation should also include full bibliographic information.

All projects should have:

    a title page
    MLA style citations/works cited page.
    The project’s text should be 800-1200 words long or so.

As long as the project has all of these items, you can let your imaginations roam a bit to come up with something really creative.

Guidelines for Choosing an Topic

The chosen figure/place/event/item should be known before 1600 CE and  be primarily legendary or mythological, not historical. The presentation needs to include a combination of information and analysis, so make sure  to choose a figure, etc. that lends itself to analysis.

Required sources:

    at least 5 secondary/critical sources; 2 must be peer-reviewed
    at least 1 primary source (literary text, artwork) written/created before 1600

DO NOT use Wikipedia or About.com as resources for the project. These can be useful as effective ways to get started, but only use them as a springboard to other stronger resources.

ESSAY STRUCTURE

Introduction:
Provide a couple of sentences of context that introduce the reader to the content of the investigation.
Itemise the main issues that will be addressed in each of the main body paragraphs to follow. Introduce areas of contestation that the essay will address.
Give a sense of the main argument or the thesis that you will develop throughout the essay.

Approximately 3 to 4 main paragraphs
Each paragraph should have a specific focus, point of view or theme.
Within each paragraph, start with a clear topic sentence which is clearly focused on the question.
Carefully select and properly reference evidence.
Use quotes as necessary, try NOT to use quotes longer than 10 words, or paraphrase, but ensure you footnote or reference all evidence.
Stress the value of the evidence you use, but also acknowledge its limitations, with reference to Origin, Purpose and Content as appropriate.
Try to show more than one perspective.

conclusion?
One paragraph only approximately 150 words.
Provides a direct answer to the question by synthesising (combining) the main points of the essay.
DO NOT argue against your thesis in your introduction.

The history of comic books

This paper requires a thesis and although I dont have a perfect thesis I do have links and the topics for the three body paragraphs. I also need a good hook. And if its possible can you make the paper sound like a 9th grader?

The first topic for the first body paragraph is the first comic book and the debut of Superman and other superheroes

The second topic for the second body paragraph is what comics were still being produced during WWll and how it was hard to produce comics at the time.

The third body paragraph is about how people reacted to comic books at that time, if it was good or bad. I really didnt have a set idea for the last body paragraph or somewhat of a source so if you can come up with one it will be much appreciated.

This paper should be written in MLA format and the teacher said we should use google docs mla format.

It Ill be great if I can go in and edit because I have to add my teachers name and my name and the hour and everything.

Brave new world

Thesis- huxleys take on society and the levels of government control leads to the destruction and downfall of their society.

This is a combination of a research and analysis paper.

We have to use the book and compare it to the real world.

I decided to write about the government and society in brave new world and compare it with our government and society.

Has to have mla format and be cited. Needs a work cited page.

Also could talk about the similarities and differences between brave new world and reality.

Project: Science Film

Outline your own science-driven film (you need to create it by yourself) in the sci-fi genre that relates to the topic that I covered in class( the topic is Geology, and I attached the slides with this topic from my class to files, so you can read all the information and write an outline based on it).

In your outline you need to write:

1. Summary of your plot (~1 page)

2. Description of the characters – at least one must be a scientist (in the field of Geology) (~1-2 pages) Make sure to clearly define the scientists credentials and skillset (what higher degree do they have and in what; what is their research speciality?)

3. Reflection on the balance of science and fiction/entertainment you would include in your film (in terms of theory, terminology, accurate portrayal of science and scientists); keep in mind budget, audience and access to information or resources. (~1 page)
