Article title: Online Self-Representation on Facebook and Self Development During the College Transition by Yang and Brown

Review the 2004 assessment of  The Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records Regulation and the HIPAA Privacy Rule: Implications for Alcohol and Substance Abuse Programs:

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. (2004). U.S. Department of Health and Human Service. Retrieved from https://www.integration.samhsa.gov/operations-administration/the_confidentiality_of_alcohol_and_drug_abuse.pdf

Discuss whether you think HIPAA is adequately covering the confidentiality of substance abuse health records.

A new police recruit is typically introduced to the value-laden subculture of police work a unique socialization process. It is vital to understand this process, because the values and expectations learned through it not only contribute to the nature of many important police issues but also determine how the police view and respond to those issues, particularly integrity and corruption; however, the issue of corruption can be looked at differently.

After reading the assignments, lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and viewing the article above, you have a better understanding of the police working personality, police subculture, and ethical and professional duties of a police officer. For this discussion address the following topic:

What did Chief Smith do that changed the department?  Look at your local police department, are there any police integrity issues (look for newspaper articles in your area that relate to police activities)?  How could your police department benefit from Chief Smiths approach?

Prompts:

In a single essay of  1000-1200 words please post a thoughtful and substantive written response that addresses and engages the following:

What did you learn from the video you selected? Be specific, give examples. Frame your response with reference to relevant readings and resources (including lectures) we have covered in this course, to date.  (Be sure to indicate the title of the video.)
What did you learn from the two articles you selected that you can discuss in terms of the required readings and resources (including lectures) we have covered to date – this includes Buckland (2017) and our textbook by Rowley & Hartley ? (Be specific and give examples. Be sure to indicate the title of each article.)
What one question do you have based on one of the videos, Web 3.0 or Linked data for libraries, and discuss why you think it is important and how it relates to the work we have done up to this point in the course.
Reminder: These assignments are opportunities for students to grapple with the ideas and issues we are reading about in this course including our textbooks, Rowley & Hartley and Buckland (2017). Use these written assignments to work to see the connections across the specific readings of the assignment and the body of readings and resources offered in the class to date. Of particular importance to your discussions are the two textbooks. You will find that your effort will pay off as you tackle the other assignments in the course.

This week, complete the Riverdale State Hospital Case Study in Chapter 3 on page 97. Keep in mind that you need to illustrate your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in your analysis of the case study. You can fulfill this requirement by arguing your perspective well, supporting your points with the text material, and providing experience from an organization of which you have been involved.

Be sure to include all the elements in the directions and use proper APA formatting. Use the heading for each section in your project including: Introduction, Summary, Communication Problems, Analysis, Solutions/Recommendations, Conclusion.

Case Studies Guidelines:

The nature of case studies is to demonstrate your ability to determine the problems, to use your knowledge to analyze those issues, and to devise strategies to solve the problems.

Introduction: Provide an introduction into the role of communication in organizations and critical thinking. Include why this analysis is important to the study of organizational communication
Summary: Summarize the background of the case. Include the relevant information to analyze.
Communication Problems: Clearly state at least three of the communication problems in the case study scenario. Use the material in the text to support.
Analysis: Analyze the problems in the scenario and include the following elements:
What or who has caused the breakdown of communication and what are the effects? (Target the problem)
What is the organizations communication style and how has it contributed to the problem?
Which management approach is most evident in the scenario?
How does the management approach influence communication at the hospital?
In what ways does the organizational structure contribute to Wilcoxs accidental death?
What system or systems need improvement?
Why does the communication problem exist? (A cause and effect argument)
Use the class textbook to support your analysis.
Use a personal experience from your organization that applies to the problems of this case to demonstrate your understanding and application of course information.
Solutions/Recommendations: Present solutions to the communication problems. Include the following elements:
What steps need to be taken to improve communication in this organization?
How can these steps fit into the present organizational structure, or what incremental steps need to be initiated? Do rules and regulations need to be changed, enforced, or modified?
How should the organization begin the implementation of the recommendations?
What training of managers/employees is needed?
What processes need to be in place to change current attitudes and practices?
Detail how your suggestions would have clarified/eliminated the current situation if they had been in place.
Use the class text to support your analysis.
Conclusion: Add an overall conclusion and wrap up/ final thoughts.
Your case study of 700800 words should use proper grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, APA citations and Reference page and be edited well. You demonstrate understanding of the course material when you use the course language and concepts to explain the communication problems, and when you support your points with the text material. Your solutions should include suggestions for improvement of the communication problems you have noted, as well as steps for implementing your ideas. Details and specifics are important.

Be sure to edit well before submitting by reading out loud.

Format for your case study (use as headings):

Case study title
Introduction
Case summary
Communication problems
Analysis
Solutions/ Recommendations
Conclusion
Reference page (Document sources in APA format with both in text citations and a Reference page)
Submitting Your Assignment:

Compose your project in a Word document. Save it in a location and with a name that you will remember.  When you are ready to submit, select the Unit 3 Assignment Dropbox and upload your file. To view your graded work after your instructor has evaluated it, please use the Dropbox or the Gradebook.

Issue: Starting with “Whether” type of statement comparing facts with rules but presented in a general term (e.g., “Ivanka” becomes a company or firm, “shoes” become a product, etc.) begging for an answer.
Rule/Law/Theory: Please be substantive with what the law is about, not just cited as “trade dress infringement law”, etc.
Analysis: Using the law as the “standard” to “measure” with pertinent facts.
Conclusion: reach at your conclusion.

Assignment Requirements

You will need to conduct research on your specific social problem with at least 7-10 SCHOLARLY resources (e.g., books, newspaper articles, news magazine articles, sociological journals, internet sites, videos, interviews, etc.). Students are encouraged to use COC’s library database, and click the option “peer-reviewed” in the search to ensure resources are in fact scholarly works.

After you have conducted your research, you will analyze your information using the following questions as a guide:

1. Discuss the history of your social problem and how it relates to sexuality. How did it emerge?  How did it come into existence?

2. How do members of society perceive this problem?

3. How has the problem changed over time?

4. What has caused it to change?

5. Discuss any stable features of the institution, that is, features that have not changed.

6. As a way to better accommodate members of society, what solutions can be offered?

7. Who are the major participants in the possible solution? What are their roles and statuses?

8. Does your institution work better for some members of society (as opposed to others)? This is where you will use conflict theory, ie: Who is benefiting and who is being exploited by this social problem pertaining to sexuality?

You will then organize and submit your information in outline format on a PowerPoint (10 15 slides). Your slide presentation should include images, videos, charts and graphs where applicable. You are welcome to use Google Slides (Links to an external site.), Open Office Impress (Links to an external site.), or Prezi (Links to an external site.) if you do not have access to PowerPoint.
