1. Which of these models of the doctor-patient relationship would you accept? Why?

Paternalism (physician knows best and patients should defer to physicians judgment);

Partnership (physician and patient should work together collaboratively towards the common goal of patient health);

Contract (patient contracts with the physician for certain services and each have their respective duties);

Friendship (Physician and patient are special-purpose friends with respect to the patients health);

Technical model (The physician is a technician whom the patient hires to perform health-related services)

2. Are physicians ever justified in lying to their patients? If so, under what conditions? If not, why not?

3. Do you think that physicians should be involved in physician assisted executions? It is sometimes said that such a role is inconsistent with their role as health care providers. Do you agree?

4. Do you think that health care providers such as nurses and physicians should be free to get involved sexually with their current patients? With their former patients? Why or why not?

A full book review may concern only one book. Its length is about 1500-2000 words. It should give readers an engaging, informative, and critical discussion of the work. The review should follow the Guidelines below.

The review should consider (please use as your outline):

    The intended audience for the book and who would find it useful
    The background of the author(s)
    The main ideas and major objectives of the book and how effectively these are accomplished
    The context or impetus for the book – – political controversy, implications of the book for research, policy, practice, or theory
    A comparison with other works on this subject
    Constructive comments about the strength and weaknesses of the book

    Your first and last name
    Your student id
    Author(s) or editor(s) first and last name(s) (please indicate if it is an edited book)
    Title of book
    Year of publication
    Place of publication
    Publisher
    Number of pages
    Price (please indicate paperback or hard cover) if available
    ISBN

Your book report must be on a book, it cannot be on an article, report, etc. And of course, this book must be related to this course.
You MUST include a work cited page at the end of your report. Note that although this isn’t in the requirements listed on the syllabus, it is mandatory. Since you will have to compare your book to other works and books, you must cite all of the resources you have used. Failure to do so will result in a 20 point grade deduction.

Guidelines

You will be asked to observe your purchases over the duration of two months – these could be products or services you bought for yourself or for a gift (suggestion write down 2 purchases a week in a notebook or word file along with some notes about each purchase). You will not be asked to provide your journal entries to me, but rather use the journal to help you write your assignment. Your task is to provide a brief reflection (800-1000 words) on what was significant, why, and how your understanding evolved over the course of the semester (that is youre expected to apply the concepts and theories examined in the course, not merely talk about purchases you made).

Pick 3 or 4 different purchases to discuss (they don’t have to be big purchases, chances are you may not have had to purchase anything major. It could be anything that you bought which made you think about the purchase, yourself, or consumer behavior in general). When discussing each purchase, apply 3-4 different concepts or theories studied in class per purchase (e.g. attitudes, decision-making stages, cognitive dissonance theory, appeals used in advertising, etc.). You should not only refer to these concepts and theories, but also provide a brief explanation demonstrating your understanding of the concept or theory – this should be in your own words, don’t feel like you need to provide the full definition.

Please highlight each term or theory in italics or bold.

You should apply a minimum of 10 different concepts and or theories total.

While applying the concepts, try not to be repetitive – for example, if you bought a new technology product and engaged in all five steps of the decision-making process (from problem recognition to post-purchase evaluation), don’t discuss the five stage process for other purchases you included in your assignment as they won’t be counted twice.

What is the thesis of Hayes’ argument in Twilight of the Elites, as explained in Chapter 1?  Remember that we are treating Hayes’ first chapter as if it were the introductory paragraph of an academic essay, so once we have read the chapter, we should know what his thesis, his argument, will be that he is trying to prove in the course of his book-length argument.

Your Task:
Describe one element of Hayes’ writing in Chapter 1 that you think is a strong example of either logos, ethos, pathos, not all three, and explain why you think it is a strong example.  Be sure to add a third level of significance to your thesis: what can we learn from your rhetorical analysis about how we can better use the rhetorical triangle to structure our own arguments?
The Details:
”    Essay should be approximately 750-1000 words (maximum).
”    Essay has introductory paragraph with a hook, roadmap, and thesis.
”    Essay should contain 3-4 MLA formatted in-text citations (quotes) from Chapter 1 of Twilight of the Elites.
”    Includes an MLA works cited at the end of the essay
”    Body paragraphs use TEA structure (topic sentence, evidence, analysis).
”    Quotes follow quote sandwich structure.
”    Essay must be submitted as an MS Word document.

Rubric:

90-100%. This essay shows strong understanding of the Unit topic and learning outcomes. The essay clearly demonstrates an excellent sense of the structure and argument of an academic essay. Essay is 750-1000 words and shows a clear understanding both of Hayes’ thesis (as described in Chapter 1) and of the rhetorical triangle.  Essay has introductory paragraph (with hook, roadmap, and three stage thesis), body paragraphs (using TEA), and a conclusion.  Essay shows ability to apply rhetorical triangle to analysis and evaluation of Hayes’ argument. MLA formatted in-text citations and MLA works cited are clear and accurate (must be 3-4 quotes).

Impaired Nurse A nurse on your unit is frequently late, occasionally looks high, and based on your observations, gives substandard care to patients. Upon receiving report, you realize that there is a discrepancy between documented medication given to one of the patients and what the patient tells you. You have suspicions based on the nurses behavior that the nurse might be diverting narcotics meant for patients. What do you do?

Do you have a legal obligation to address suspicions? And if so, what laws or rules would indicate a legal responsibility and what actions would you take? If the nurse is found to have a narcotic addiction, is the identifying nurse required to report this to the state board of nursing? What is the ethical responsibility of the nurse who suspects a co-worker of substance abuse? What ethical principles apply?

USE THE AMERICAN NURSE ASSOCIATION GUIDE TO THE CODE OF ETHICS FOR NURSES AS REFERENCE. IN TEXT CITATION PLEASE INCLUDE PAGE NUMBER.

1. Choose and carefully define a LOCAL business – no big national brands. You will continue to use this business as your “client” throughout this course so pick wisely 🙂 Also, don’t just tell me that they are a “bakery” – elaborate the kind of bakery, any specialties, any particular target market, etc. Give me as much information as possible as you define this brand.

2. Develop three (3) goals.

    One must be a communication goal
    One must be a business goal
    the third can be either (your choice).
    These goals must be SMART. Use the provided template from the module  (use three copies – one for each goal, you can put your KPIs at the bottom).
    Your KPIs must link directly back to your goal.

Note, that your goal must, in one sentence, contain ALL the elements of SMART (do not write 5 sub-goals). If you want to see an example, refer to the powerpoint lecture for this module.

Please read the following article by Graeme Wood. Please respond to the article in 2 pages or less  For those who need a basic platform, here is a guiding question:

Graeme Wood provides a detailed look at the ideology of ISIS and its relationship to Islam. Considering our classroom discussions and the texts we read together, what is your opinion regarding ISIS ideology (as described by Wood and as discussed in class) and its relationship to Islam? What have our readings and discussions taught you about Islam’s radical potential?

Read and carefully follow these instructions:

  Watch the entire C-SPAN Constitution video (0:18:00 minutes).
  Create a post for our class discussion and explain to your classmates and professor, in your view, which ONE of the three branches of the U.S. government is the most powerful and why?
Guidelines for your post and replies:

Use specific examples from this video (timestamp of the video required) to support your choice of governmental branch.
Of course, you are welcome to also rely on other resources from our Canvas site, textbook, homework quiz, or outside sources as well. When you do use sources other than the video, you will need to properly cite the source and if appropriate, use the skills you developed and discussed in our first week of class How to Evaluate News Sources.
Your post should be between 250 300 words.  Your replies should be a minimum of 3-4 well-constructed sentences that directly address your classmates’ posts and hopefully will include a question to encourage further discussion.
