For your second essay, you will produce an analysis of one specific technological object, and the object that you choose should be something for which you have affection. Your task is to analyze your relationship to your object using any of Unit 2 materials. For this essay, you could make visible (and therefore readable-> heard) the silent history of your object. As part of your analysis, you might explore the ways in which this silent history impacts your relationship to the object: Does the history complicate your affection for this object? (How) does its history cause you to reevaluate your relationship to it? Other students, might analyze how technological their object is and discuss why or why not it matters in the context of their lives? And ultimately, so what?

To prepare the first draft of this analytical essay (4-5 pages, double-spaced). You will extend the physical descriptions prepared in Prompts 5 and 6 to explain the possible significance this object has in terms of a larger concern–personal, social, aesthetic, economic, moral, ethical, and so on–or any combination of these. Focus on how your understanding of the object’s significance comes through your interactions with and experience of the object. Lastly, connect your analysis to one or more of the unit readings (Crouse).

Focus Group Discussion Guide Assignment

I’ve attached the sample study guide in the upload materials section please follow it

Background: Included in our class materials (see the “Pages” section) is a sample discussion guide that I produced for a research company with which I sometimes work.  As youll see, the discussion guide has comments along the right-hand margin that explain the rationale for various things that were done.  The research project was one about product placement in Hollywood productions.  The product in this case was the U.S. Air Force, and the goal of the research was to determine if people noticed the service when it appeared in three movies Iron Man, Transformers, and Eagle Eye.  We showed participants clips from the three movies and then asked them to discuss what they had seen using this discussion guide.  Read through the sample discussion guide, and I think youll get the gist of what was going on.

Assignment: Choose any topic (client, product, research idea, anything) about which you are interested in.  Think about how you might explore this topic using focus group research.  Write the discussion guide that you would use for the focus group.  Assume your focus group will have 12 participants and that it will last 20 minutes.  The demographic makeup of the focus group participants is up to you and likely will depend on the nature of the topic you choose to explore. In addition to the actual discussion guide, write a short (approximately one page) background section that tells me about your topic, what you are trying to discover about that topic, and the demographic makeup of your participants.

Should governments subsidise the arts? Explain your answer using relevant examples to illustrate your points.

Your essay will demonstrate your ability to:

            Investigate the topic/question

            Source apposite material

            Undertake original research

            Construct a coherent argument.

Use appropriate evidence and source material to support your arguments, such as textbooks, journal articles, newspaper articles and internet sources. Please include AT LEAST five sources. Ensure that you cite these using the Harvard referencing system and provide a full bibliography at the end of your essay.

We will be using plagiarism software to check that your essay has not been submitted by another student or to another institution, either in whole or in part; if you are found to have plagiarised then your application will be immediately rejected. Our system will detect self-plagiarism, i.e. if you have submitted any portion of your essay to another UK institution; your essay must therefore be original and specific to this application.

For the Critical Assignment the students will write a creed on the Christian faith. A creed (from the Latin, credo, “I believe”) is simply a statement of belief, or a doctrinal summary. The creed in this case will include two components: it will express the beliefs of evangelical Christianity as presented in the course material (lectures and readings), but it will also express the students own personal beliefs and reflections on the course material. The lectures and the McGrath book will be important resources for this assignment.McGrath, Alister. Theology: The Basics, 4th ed. Wiley-Blackwell, 2017. ISBN: 978-1119158080.

The creed should be divided into 8 sections:

Scripture and Truth
God, the Holy Trinity
Humanity and Sin
The Person of Christ
The Work of Christ
Soteriology
Ecclesiology
Eschatology
For each of these 8 sections, the students will include 2 sub-sections:

1.) 1-2 paragraphs on the beliefs of evangelical Christianity on the doctrine in question. By “Evangelical Christianity,” I simply mean conservative, gospel-believing Protestantism, that is, the viewpoint expressed in the lectures. This section is more objective, and you will be graded on the accuracy and thoroughness of your presentation of the evangelical view.

2.) 1-2 paragraphs on your own personal beliefs and reflections on the doctrine in question. If you are in fundamental agreement with the course material, you may choose to reflect on the significance of the doctrine for your own personal faith and practice. Or you may choose to register some disagreement with the doctrine in question or to interact critically with the course material. This is your chance to reflect upon what you believe and why you believe it. As such, this section is more subjective. Disagreement will not be penalized, but you will be graded on the thoughtfulness of your interaction.

For each section, be sure to include Scripture references in parentheses that support the beliefs in question (3 Scripture references minimum per section). You do not need to cite any sources beyond the McGrath book, but if you do use other sources (in print or online), be sure to cite them. Plagiarism is taken very seriously in higher education; so do not use any material that is not your own without proper citation.

Use the template provided in week 8 (there is no need to make this assignment conform to MLA or APA style). See the rubric attached to the assignment in week 8 for more details on how the creed will be assessed.

An important part of being an active researcher in archaeology is generating new knowledge and ideas about the archaeological past. This includes excavating new sites, examining artifacts and ecofacts, and reviewing data in new ways. In this assignment, you are the researcher digging for new clues amongst the data.

Begin by choosing an important site or type of site that was built and/or used in British early prehistory. You must email me no later than February 19 to clear your choice. Read as much as you can about your site/type site and critically evaluate the data and leading interpretations.

Next, write a paper (max. 2500 words) that discusses

      – your sites significance, what it tells us about the past, and how its use/significance changed over time

      – the data that have been gathered and the leading interpretations

      – any controversies that surround these interpretations

      – your critical analysis of the interpretations (use the ‘Thinking Critically’ handout to help guide you)

Make sure you use concrete data and examples to support your ideas and cite all of your information in text and include a bibliography at the end of your paper. There are several handouts in the Student Writing Support folder to help guide you through this process of research, analysis, essay planning, and persuasive writing.

Your paper should be supported by a minimum of 10 reliable, scholarly resources, including at least 1 site/excavation report, that are correctly referenced using the Harvard method. In your research, avoid websites, blogs, newspaper articles and magazine articles because they are not detailed enough for this assignment. You must submit your paper online in the dropbox folder provided no later than March 29, 2020 at 11:59 pm. Late submissions will incur a penalty of 5% per day, inclusive of weekends.

Here are a few sites or types of sites you may wish to research, but you are not limited to these.
