You are a gerontological counselor who works with elderly people and their families. You need to evaluate a new depression inventory to determine if it would be appropriate to use with your clients. Using the information provided below, describe the strengths and weakness of the instrument (make sure to address all information necessary in evaluating and selecting an assessment instrument). Based on your evaluation, would you use this instrument? Why or why not?

Depression Inventory for the Elderly (DIE)

Purpose: Designed for assessment of self-rating of depressive symptoms in older adults.

Population: Adults, age 65 and older.

Score: The inventory provides a Total Score and five Primary Dimensions: Negative Mood, Interpersonal Problems, Ineffectiveness, Anhedonia, and Negative Self Esteem.

Time:  35 minutes

Description:

The DIE has been designed to measure depressive symptoms for elderly individuals. The self-administered inventory consists of 90 items related to such depressive symptoms as depressed mood, withdrawal, feelings of guilt and worthlessness, difficultly making decisions, vegetative functions, selfevaluation and interpersonal behaviors.

Scoring:

The inventory uses a 5-point scale of distress (04), ranging from not at all (0) to extremely (4). The DIE yields raw scores and T scores for the Total Score and Primary Dimension scores. Results are hand scored. T scores above 65 on the Total Score and the Primary Dimensions are considered in the clinical range.

Norms:

The normative sample included 1266 retired individuals residing in Florida age 65 to 91.  There were 350 men between the ages of 65 and 85, and 750 women ages 65 to 91. The population was mostly middle to upper class retirees.

Reliability:

Internal consistency reliability has been found to be range from .71 to .89 with various samples.

Test-retest reliability correlations appear to be acceptable. It is however expected that the symptoms of depression would change over time, and regression to the mean is associated with repeated testing over time.

Validity:

Three research studies have evaluated the DIE in assessing constructs both for concurrent and predictive uses in characterizing symptoms of depression in older adults. The studies report the DIE successfully distinguishes individuals without depression from depressed individuals.

The Critical Incident Response Group, in the FBI, includes links to the Behavioral Analysis Group and the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP). Research these two programs and provide an overview of their operations.  What sorts of crimes do FBI agents focus on? Explain how psychology is used.  To get you started visit the following URL: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cirg/cirg/ Write a two page paper in responding and answer the questions.  Cite three sources in APA format at the end of your report.

Answer the following two questions; Discuss any of the following and include any experiences or other resources you may be familiar with:  How can art, drama, music and/or technology enhance teaching ELLs?
Describe innovative ways technology (e.g. education apps, Twitter, FB, Skype, You Tube, smart phones,  video cameras, can enhance learning activities for ELLs.

In countries such as Japan, China, India, and Iran there are gestures that convey different meanings in comparison with gestures we use in the United States. Find an example of a gesture or non-verbal behavior (holding hands, for example) from any other country of the world that you did not know about. Provide a link and/or explain the gesture, the meaning, and compare (why or why not we interpret it differently or it does not exist in the United States)

Option B: Complete an annotated table of contents for the Regulations Governing Special Education Programs for Children with Disabilities in Virginia.

Here are the guidelines for creating an annotated table of contents:  Whereas an ordinary table of contents gives headings and subheadings with page numbers to enable readers to quickly find information, annotated tables of contents briefly explain what each heading or subheading contains. Take the existing table of contents, duplicate it in your document, and provide succinct and comprehensive annotations for each heading that appears in the table of contents.  You’ll need to read and synthesize the information and report it in your own words.  Do not cut and paste from the source document to yours–this would be plagiarism. Remember to include page numbers, subheadings and appendices along with all headings.  You may single-space this assignment.  You may use a table if formatting becomes a problem.  This assignment typically runs 12 -16 pages long.

Here are some examples of annotated tables of contents:

Use critical thinking skills to analyze the information you heard during the 30-minute discussion (there is link to a 30 min podcast in the file Rubric for Discussion please listen to it). Synthesize that information by formulating your ideas on opportunities for retailers in the future and the form retail business will take in the future.

Preliminary Evaluation of Walt Disney Company’s Simulated ERM Program

Based on the 2018 fiscal year annual report and background description of Walt Disney Company’s (DIS) simulated ERM program, please write a brief report that cover:

Question: The Walt Disney Company’s (DIS) uses COSO frameworks. Identifies the Monitoring Activities being used by DIS to perform Enterprise Risk Management.

PS: Monitoring in COSO frameworks (Risk flow charts, Risk reviews, Audit, Reporting, Questionnaires, Facilitated Sessions. ETC.)

STEP 1:Online conversations tend to revolve around puzzles or problems, so you want to start by Identifying a problem that concerns you or a puzzle that intrigues you. This will be your topic for the rest of this course, so make sure that you choose something that you are truly passionate about.

Your research topic must have multiple perspectives or ideas. This means that you need to be thinking about this issue beyond two clearly defined sides (for or against). Most real-world situations are more complicated than that because they impact peoples lives in various ways based on age, gender, culture, geographic location, race, occupation, religion, income level, education level, etc.
Since we will be working with this topic for a large part of our semester, you should select a puzzle or problem that you find especially interesting – one that you want to engage with and learn more about. This issue should connect to your personal experiences, current life, or future goals. The more you care about this issue, the more rewarding the rest of the semester will be!
Note: You must pick a new topic–not the same topic as Module 1

STEP 2: Find two current news articles or Op-Eds related to that topic (an Op-Ed is an opinion article published in a newspaper).

Importantly, the articles you choose to use for this assignment should represent either some aspect of the topic you are most interested in or provide background information. In other words, don’t just pick two random articles about a topic that you like–the articles should demonstrate something about the topic and why it interests you.

STEP 3: Read the articles or Op-Eds and respond to the following:

Part A:
1.What is the specific puzzle or problem that you are interested in researching?
2.Why are you interested in this puzzle or problem? In what specific ways does this topic connect to your personal, academic, professional, or cultural life?
3.Why is this issue/topic important beyond your own life? For example, why is it important for society to solve this problem or understand this issue?
4.A strong research topic will have multiple perspectives/ideas to explore. What are some of the potential perspectives related to your research topic? (How does this relate to the two articles you are posting?)
Part B: (Respond to the following for each source)
1.What is the name of the article or Op-Ed that you found, who is the author of the piece, and what are the main topics/ideas explored in this text?
2.What perspectives does the author of the above text seem to privilege or prioritize in their text? Relatedly, what perspectives seem to be left out of this particular text?
3.Identify a 1-2 sentence passage that seems especially significant to this source. Quote the sentence(s) and then explain why you have selected this passage.
4.What questions do you have after completing this reading that you might want to explore in your research?
