1) Hitting Budapest: Noviolet Bulawayo depicts her childhood growing up in Zimbabwe. She is able to depict the conditions in these countries while still telling the story of her childhood. Tell a story from your childhood that also depicts the time and place you grew up.
Examples: In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou depicts her childhood growing up in Arkansas; in To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee depicts young Scout Finch’s childhood growing up in Alabama. Both are childhood stories, but both also depict conditions in the deep south in the mid-twentieth century.
2) The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon: What is your work-related story? Is it your first job? Your current position? If you do not have a job-related story that you want to write about, still, the Coyote Ugly story can be useful as a prompt. For example, that bar was a little community all on its own. What little community have you seen or been a part of, whether in school, at work, in the neighborhood, on the playing fields, etc.
Research the settlement house movement in the U.S. and Europe and select one specific settlement house to investigate further. Write a summary of what you found addressing the following questions:
What did you discover from your research on the settlement house movement?
What specific settlement house did you select to investigate further and why? Is it still in operation today? If so, how are they addressing macro practice?
Identify a current non-profit or other organization in operation today that resembles or mirrors the functions provided by settlement houses of the past. Describe what the organization does to address macro practice. Who are they serving and how?
Discussion 1: Leadership Theories in Practice
A walk through the Business section of any bookstore or a quick Internet search on the topic will reveal a seemingly endless supply of writings on leadership. The formal research literature is also teeming with volumes on the subject.
However, your own observation and experiences may suggest these theories are not always so easily found in practice. Not that the potential isnt there; current evidence suggests that leadership factors such as emotional intelligence and transformational leadership behaviors, for example, can be highly effective for leading nurses and organizations.
Yet, how well are these theories put to practice? In this Discussion, you will examine formal leadership theories. You will compare these theories to behaviors you have observed firsthand and discuss their effectiveness in impacting your organization.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and examine the leadership theories and behaviors introduced.
Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Modules readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.
Reflect on the leadership behaviors presented in the three resources that you selected for review.
Post four key insights you had from the scholarly resources you selected. Describe a leader whom you have seen use such behaviors and skills, or a situation where you have seen these behaviors and skills used in practice. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain to what extent these skills were effective and how their practice impacted the workplace.

Assignment directions:
Carefully read Woozley’s criticisms of Aristole and Plato. He raises two ‘difficulties’ with Plato’s theory, and two ‘difficulties’ with Aristotle’s. Your paper should have two sections.
Section 1: Summary: In the first section, summarize one of the four difficulties he raises. You may pick either of the ones he raises against Plato, or either of the ones he raises against Aristotle. Simply pick one of Woozley’s objections and summarize it.
Section 2: Evaluation: First, you should provide a defense on behalf of Aristotle or Plato against the objection you summarized in section #1 . In other words, if you picked one of Woozley’s attacks on Plato, you should defend Plato against that attack (the same would go for Aristotle). Second, tell us whose view of universals you think is best — Aristotle, Plato, or Woozley?

Formatting, length, style, and other guidelines:

Clarity: Use simple, direct language; avoid complicated, elaborate prose. Explain key concepts. Use examples where appropriate. Avoid metaphor and figurative language. Dont use rhetorical questions; instead, state and defend your claims.
Concision: Dont use many words where fewer will do, and avoid redundancy. Do NOT include an introduction, its a waste of space in an paper this short. Just immediately begin answering the assigned prompts. Likewise, there is no need for a conclusion that merely sums up your short paper.
Relevance: Stay focused, and avoid generalities. The point of this essay is for you to explain and evaluate a specific argument given by a philosopher. Stick to the point; avoid tangents; everything in your paper should be organized around the prompts.
Charity: Avoid distorted presentations of the arguments (or anyone elses). Give every argument you discuss the strongest, reasonable interpretation.

Amazon recently hit the one trillion dollar mark in valuation quite an accomplishment and it puts the company in rarified air. The path to the valuation has not been easy, or fast. Expansion into different services and countries were essential.
Amazon now operates in more than a dozen different countries, including India. India presents a very specific challenge to all of the companies that are operating within its borders; roughly only 10 percent of the countrys 1.3 billion citizens understand English. In effect, this limits the access to online shopping to a majority of the Indian people.
Amazon aims to fix this situation in India. It recently stated that it will make mobile websites and apps available in Hindi Indias most popular language. Similar to how U.S. citizens can select Spanish as their language of choice, users of the India app will be able to choose Hindi as their preferred language. Although Amazon is the second largest player in Indias multi-billion dollar e-commerce market, the English language is not sufficient to reach the countrys customers.
The task is a difficult one. Using a translation algorithm was insufficient and a far cry from the language and cultural translations that are needed to gain customers trust. Only 40% of Indian customers use ecommerce, and of those, roughly one-third only make a single purchase. Amazon also has 14,000 retail locations across India as part of its Amazon Easy program; this allows a local shopkeeper to help customers place orders, receive packages, and deliver them.
The push to Indian languages will be key to gaining new Internet users over the next few years. Research studies forecast that by 2021, 536 million Indians will use their native languages to access the Internet.
