Assignment Content

The criminal trial process has many components. In this assignment, you explore real-life examples of the criminal trial process in two different types of trials.

Search the Internet for trials using parameters such as but not limited to watch criminal trials online, or visit the Wild About Trial website.

Compare two trials. If possible, compare a murder trial with one involving another major felony. Include the parties represented in each trial (i.e., plaintiff and defendant).

Write 350- to 700-word comparison in which you:
Summarize what each trial was about.
Identify the type of court the trials were held in (refer to Ch. 1 for types of courts in the United States).
Describe as many of the steps of each trial as you can (refer to Ch. 13 for the steps/process).
Explain the similarities and differences between the two trials you selected.
Identify as many of the actors of each trial as you can who played a role in the steps of the trial process. What were their roles?

Cite a minimum of 2 sources (one source for each trial).

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Submit your assignment.

d)  what differences you may find between your two interviewees

e)  what you know about the event, and what you anticipate you may learn about the event

Respond to the following discussion question for this module. Discuss various conditions that might make setting the eyes or the mouth difficult, such as dehydration or protruding teeth. Use resources such as other embalmers or your text book to talk about some of the treatments available for the condition you have chosen.  Answer the discussion board question  first, then respond to the other two people you agree or disagree and explain why?

First person  Reply to :  Dehydration can be a real pain when embalming and setting the features. From what I’ve read in the book, if the eyes are too sunken or have other complications due to dehydration, cotton is useful for packing a small amount inside and closing the upper lid and bottom lid over it and then using glue. Another option is to use eye caps and then use glue as well. For the mouth, when dealing with the buck teeth issue, I read that packing a bit of cotton in the lower portion of the mouth and then suturing through the mouth, then the nasal cavities, and back into the mouth is a good way to handle this case. I personally have no experience with it, but I can imagine it may be a bit tedious. I have had experience with a mouth with no teeth, however and for that we used a mouth former and the suture method I mentioned. The main thing to watch out for in this way of closing the mouth though is to not make a pucker in the chin where you are threading under the skin.

Second person reply to : There are a few conditions that might make setting the eyes or mouth difficult.  Some that I’ve seen are cause of death, length of illness and emaciation.  If a person has been bed ridden for months prior to death the face can become sunken.  Eye caps and cotton can help bring fullness to the eyes.  If a single eye cap does not give the embalming the desired result, using two eye caps in each location adds additional fullness.  A little cotton under the eye caps can also help.  I’m learning the cotton massaged with vaseline can work wonders with the mouth!  A mouth former of course is a quick solution but placing vaseline on the cotton and forming the cotton in the shape that will give the mouth a natural setting has proven to be most effective for me.  I may go a little full only to realize by the next day that the cotton has settled and the mouth looks quite natural.  After setting the facial features, it may be necessary to inject up to a little distention to bring fullness to the facial area.  We will then add cosmetics the following day or so for a pleasant final presentation.

Write a paper about the theme of the book “Raisin in the Sun”. The theme should be along the lines of dreams or hope in the sense that the characters had dreams of making it out of their oppression and to succeed. Use direct quotes from the book to prove the theme along with reasoning for why each quote proves the theme. Below is the rubric containing further explanation.

You’ve worked with your group through this entire term, and for this assignment, you will actually be working on your own. Group dynamics can be wonderful or challenging, depending on the group. This is an opportunity for you to evaluate the group as a whole.
1) List each of the group members, and rate their work and participation on a scale from 1-5, with 1 being “the individual did not participate or contribute to the work at all” and 5 being “The individual went above and beyond in terms of participation and contribution”. If you have a neutral opinion, please select “3”. An average of all of these scores will be part of each group member’s grade for this assignment.
2) What were some items you learned from working in a group this term, and what professional skills do you think you will take away from this experience?
3) If you could change anything about the way the groups are managed, what would it be?
Acceptable Length As long as the questions are answered, I will not require a specific length

For #1 I want to rank one person a 5 bc they did their  part and more…The other person I rank them as a 4 they just did their part. The rest of the questions just act like you took the class and answer the questions. Please read B4 you want to assign this assignment

s the Turing Test Too Weak?
Recall that the Turing Test is predicated on the proposition that

The perfect imitation of intelligence is intelligence.

The trouble, as the otherwise odious Nathan correctly points out in the film Ex Machina, is proving artificial intelligence. Caleb describes this as the ‘chess challenge’: Does the chess-playing computer know that it is playing chess? Analogously, does Ava know it has bested Nathan at his own game? Proving AI is challenging indeed!

We have considered two important reasons for thinking that Ava is a false positive:

The Chinese Room Thought Experiment: Ava behaves as if she understands, holding conversations and interacting with people as if she does. But as Searle’s Chinese Room Thought Experiment demonstrates, she mimics understanding (perhaps perfectly) without actually understanding, just as Searle-in-the-room can pass the Turing Test in Chinese without understanding Chinese in the slightest. Thus Ava can pass the Turing Test without understanding she’s passed the test or even grasped that she is taking a test.
The Case of Mary: Ava behaves as if she is fully aware of her surroundings, carefully choosing clothes to wear, drawing drawings to (it seems) impress Caleb, and seeking to people-watch on a busy street corner. Thus Ava seems intelligent in part because she gives all the behavioral evidence of enjoying subjective experience (having pains, pleasures, conscious awareness of her immediate environment, feelings for Caleb, etc.) There is, it seems, something it is like to be Ava, and Nathan has figured out how to program her so there is, but how? If, as we learn from the Case of Mary, it is possible to know all the physical facts about color and color sensation without knowing what it is like to see the color red, for instance, then what it is like to see the color red is not a physical fact for Ava–or us, for that matter. Thus Ava can pass the Turing Test without there being anything whatsoever it is like to be Ava. She can express having feelings, thoughts, and experiences in passing the test without actually having any feelings, thoughts, or experiences.
In this essay, explain 1) the Turing Test for Artificial Intelligence as Turing originally conceived it, 2) the Chinese Room Thought Experiment as an argument that the Turing Test is too weak, and 3) the Case of Mary as an argument (again) that the Turing Test is too weak. Let us further stipulate that your explanations must be sufficiently clear, concise, and well-written that anyone not in the class would be able to follow them. You might even go so far as to invite a friend not in the class to read the essay to see how well they follow your explanations. Note that this is more challenging than it may seem. Writing for someone brand new to these concepts is never easy. You would do well to sprinkle your explanations with lots of well-chosen examples so as to make it concrete for the reader. Further, it helps to understand the motivation in each case. Why use the Turing Test, for example, and not just a standard IQ test? What point is Searle trying to make with the Chinese Room Thought Experiment? Why is it a Chinese room in particular? Why is the Case of Mary so troubling, not just for the Turing Test, but for we ourselves as well?

Finally, put it all together: In light of your review, is the perfect imitation of intelligence intelligence? Justify your answer.
