Businesses have created a variety of environmental disasters throughout history. As the world becomes more industrialized, the potential for disaster increases. For this Discussion Board, you will explore the Exxon Valdez oil spill to see how it influenced the discussion of a companys duty to environmental stakeholders.

Click on and read the Alaska Oil Spill Commission Report:

Alaska Oil Spill Commission. (1990). Spill: The wreck of the Exxon Valdez. Retrieved from http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/oil-spill/docs/alaska-commission-report.pdf

Who were the stakeholders in this incident? What should have been done to prevent this disaster? What responsibilities did Exxon have to future stakeholders? How did Exxon react to the disaster, and did they act responsibly before, during, and after this disaster?

A group policy object or GPO can be configured to implement security parameters of a Windows domain, among other things. Different organizations have different security needs, and their GPO settings can vary. Try to imagine your current workplace or a past one where you think a GPO would work well (maybe it even used them).

What features do you think you would set up in the GPO?

Consider things like passwords policies, allowing someone to log onto a server, and so on.
Talk about a few settings you like and why they would work, and maybe one you do not think would be useful at all. Do not forget to explain why.

OSHA: Hero or Villain?

OSHA has been seen as both a positive and a negative influence on business and employees. Start by reading OSHA’s mission statement.

Retrieved from http://www.osha.gov/.
Go to About OSHA.
Explore the information and links on that page.
Locate some articles about OSHA written by Ralph Nader.

How does Mr. Nader feel about OSHA and their mission? Are they succeeding?
Do you think Mr. Nader’s reasoning is correct?
What do you think workplace safety would be like without OSHA? Do you think managers and company owners would still be safety conscious because it is the ethical thing to do?
How do you think you would feel as a manager if an OSHA inspector showed up unannounced?

Read the factual scenario as to the Amtrak Case Study.

Prepare a three-page analysis that defines the concept of corporate social responsibility. Consider the corporate social responsibility of Amtrak as to the tragedy which occurred both before and after the incident involved.

Based on your analysis of the scenario, as well as what you have learned about ethical theories and foundations of moral development, what would your recommendation to the corporation regarding how to proceed after the incident? How does multiculturalism and diversity perspectives of the various stakeholders in this case impact your recommendations? Note that your recommendation should be at least two paragraphs and include at least three specific reasons, with specific references to authoritative sources, stating how you arrived at that conclusion.

Use and cite at least three additional authoritative sources as you examine Amtrak’s corporate social responsibility in this factual scenario other than the text materials.
