For this assignment, you will reflect on the cognitive stages of development as outlined by Piaget and compare them with Vygotskys interpretation of cognitive development. You will create a power point presentation that covers the following information.

Consider the strengths, limitations and cognitive abilities that develop as a child moves through Piagets stages of development. Think about a toy, game or activity that would be especially interesting and relevant to the level of development demonstrated at one of the 4 stages. You may create your own toy/activity or you may work with something that already exists.

You should write a summary of the stage that you are presenting including abilities and limitations, and a summary of the toy or activity that you feel best demonstrates the abilities of this stage.

You should also provide a brief summary of Vygotskys competing theory of cognitive development. How would Vygotsky explain the purpose of the toy or activity that you found? That is, what aspects of the Social Constructivist theory are demonstrated in your chosen toy or activity? Which of the two theories of cognitive development do you think more accurately captures the process of development in children? Why?
