Assignment Overview
Before you begin writing your final Recommendation Report for this class, you must first plan your project and inform me of your plans in a Proposal.

In many professions, large scale projects require a detailed project plan. These proposed plans usually describe the tasks that must be undertaken to investigate potential conclusions or solutions, plot out a realistic schedule to complete the assignment, and identify the resources required for completing the project. You will complete and turn in such a plan in the form of a Proposal to me.

As this is an academic exercise, part of your proposal will need to detail the theoretical case study you have fabricated. You will need to create a fictional audience, purpose, and context appropriate and consistent with the rhetorical situations particular to your own future profession. The situation you present will be subject to my approval, and if necessary, you will need to revise and resubmit your proposal until it is approved.

After I review your proposal, I will inform you of any concerns I have for the final project, so you may make necessary changes before turning in the final report.

For the proposal project, you will write a document that presents your theoretical case study, proposes your project plan to me, and requests permission to proceed with the project as planned.

In order to present an acceptable Case Study, you will need to fabricate a fictitious professional entity (management, company, program, etc.), and present a plausible case describing a rhetorical situation requiring a choice between two alternatives. You will need to describe your audience(s) and your purpose in recommending one thing over another.

You will need to complete three Project Planning Worksheets, which will help you develop your plans for this project. The Project Planning Worksheets can be found here ().

For your project to be approved, I will need to be convinced of

the suitability of your project topic and rhetorical situation,
the availability and accessibility of the information required to investigate and present a recommendation, and
the feasibility of your plan for conducting the investigation and writing the report.
To familiarize yourself better with this major assignment, carefully review the following sections:

Emerging Trends and Future Challenges In The Field Of Private Security

Global private security market is poised to grow by $58.7B during 2019 2023 according by Technavio (Bloomberg News). The market is driven by concerns about terrorism and crime. Also, rapid urbanization is anticipated to further boost the growth of the market during the forecast period. Concerns about terrorism and crime are leading to an increase in the adoption of private security services by businesses and residential complexes. Having security guards on premises is crucial for corporations as it would be one of the top deterrents of preventing a crime taking place. While corporations and residential complexes may implement other important security measures such as lightning, fences, alarms, and security cameras, it is crucial to have on site security guards or centralized command center. Having proper security guards in place, lowers the risk of a crime and return creates growth in real estate market value due to lower crime rate. When these factors are evaluated, private security becomes crucial business solution that corporations and urban areas must consider. Security cameras have evolved, and it would be highly unlikely to come across a commercial building where security cameras would not be implemented. Security cameras require continues monitoring whether it is done by on site security or central command center. There are of course challenges with private security which include proper background checks, proper training, and management. If a security guard is not properly trained, may cause negligence to the company that employs security guard and the business may face personal injury liability. A bouncer can be found liable for assault. However, as previously mentioned in this article, the bouncer may not be financially able to compensate the injured person. In those cases, the injured person may sue the nightclub for negligent security (website). Another challenge of course is the cost that comes with a security guard or guards. Depending on the business and what the company tries to protect, evaluation will be performed based on the cost/benefit analysis whether the value of hiring a full-time security guard exceeds the value of stolen property/reputation or not.

As technology advances so will the methods and tools used for security. This is a common trend that has been happening over the past few years from the use of different types of biometrics and now even robotic tools.  This will lead to its own group of problems which we have only seen a taste of. The idea that robots can soon replace humans in certain jobs cause be an uncertain thought.  There are many pros and cons to this and only time will tell if its the right course to take. The use of biometrics arises many of issues people would have if the technology would advance further into that realm. Identity, privacy, control, jobs and funding are things to be considered challenges if security would face. Privacy and identity are always something that comes into question, how much does a person have to give up in order to keep safe. Control and power would come to those who run these softwares or tools.  People could be replaced by technology and robots just like history has shown already. The biggest benefit of having robots replace some security personnel is that a robot can be replaced, a human life cannot. Robots are repairable, but humans suffer from injuries. The losses from the death of an employee are far greater than from a destroyed robot (Fennelly, 2016) But does this advantage outweigh the humans. The fact is that robots will outperform humans and will become the ideal candidate but when situations go wrong will people be ready to handle the consequences.

Describe the characteristics of the taxonomy of your animal. In other words, explain what phylum, class, order, family, genus and species it belongs in and explain the significance of each taxon. Why does this animal belong in this phylum, class, order, family etc.? What are the characteristics of this phylum, class, order, family etc.? Describe in detail the external and internal anatomy of the animal that you picked, and then write about its comparative anatomy. In other words, compare and contrast the anatomy of your animal with other animals that we learned about this semester. Describe the ecological factors associated with your animal such as, where it lives, what are some unique adaptations that it has that has allowed it to be successful in it’s environment, what is it’s ecological niche, what are some symbiotic relationships that it has, what are it’s predators and prey, where does it live, how does it reproduce, and how are humans impacted by this animal?

Describe the three major events of Big Era 8.  How did these events impact the power structure of the world? How do the Russian revolution and independence movements in places like China and India connect to these major events?

>and also another part

Does the concept of identity work more as a unifying force or as a separating force?  Using specific examples from Big Era 8, discuss which of these opposing sides more affected the lives of the people at this time.

> need answers for these to questions

This assignment has two parts. Read the article “Why We Lie” (reading #1).

Part 1) On a separate document, answer the following discussion questions. Do not use quotations. All these answers should be in your own words to show your understanding of the article. I don’t want you to use the author’s exact words. Use  complete sentences and proper spelling and punctuation (as best as you can).

Discussion Questions:

1) Explain the different ways people lie for protection.

2) According to the article, why do children usually lie to their parents?

3) What does the author see as the benefit for an individual not to lie?

4) What does the author see as the benefit to others of not lying to them?

5) Making Connections: Argue a position. Describe a time when you were in an uncomfortable situation and you either chose to lie or decided not to lie. Explain why you made this choice.  Explain the outcome. Would you have done it differently next time?

Part 2:  On the same document as above, write two different quote sandwiches (directions for how to write a quote sandwich are in the powerpoint posted in this module). Choose one quote from the part of the article under the heading “Lying is About Immediate Reward, and the second quote from under the second heading “Why We Shouldn’t Lie.”

Often, the hardest part of writing a well developed paragraph for a student is extending commentary after a quote, so I ask you to use quote sandwiches (also called quote packages). Every time you use a quote in a paper for me this semester, you will use this sandwich format. If you want to, you can use these two quote sandwiches in Paper 1, which is due next week.

Film: I’m a Cyborg, but That’s OK (2006)

Choose one of the following questions to address in your response paper.  (Please note the number of the question that you are responding to at the beginning of your paper.)

1. There are numerous moments of overlap or transformation in Cyborg, where one ordinarily discreet object, individual, role, word, sound, etc. merges with or becomes another thing.  Name one such transformation and discuss its significance in relation to the film as a whole.

2. The director, Park Chan-wook, has said that Cyborg is is not interested [in] the concept of a cure.  Yet we can trace a kind of healing trajectory throughout the film.  What do the main characters achieve by the end of the film, if not a cure?  Is this a happy ending, a tragic outcome, or something else altogether?
