FINAL PAPER

Step 1: Interview

Your interview with a stakeholder in the education system will be brief (10-20 minutes) and concerns the interviewees knowledge, experience, and opinion on the purpose of education in our democracy.

Step 2: Final Reflection Paper

The first 1-2 pages of this 6-8 page paper will describe the context of your interview. Alternatively, you can weave your interview into your paper at a later point.

The remainder of the paper is reflective and should address the questions below. All questions should be included, although not necessarily in this order.

What do you believe is the purpose of education, and who decides (and ought to decide) that purpose in a democratic system? How has your understanding of the purpose of education changed throughout the quarter?
How does your interview inform (or not inform) your belief in this purpose? (This can include changes to the system that you think are necessary/beneficial).
What historical narrative we have studied in this course informs your understanding of our current condition of education? Clearly connect to one historical time/moment we studied.
What theoretical approach we studied in class can support your claim about teh purpose of education in a democracy?  Clearly connect to one theoretical approach we studied.
How does this oral history inform your approach as a future educator & member of this democracy?

[The Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz, Volume 1. Penn State MMC: MCD90-425] King Olivers Creole Jazz Band, Dippermouth Blues (Joe Oliver), Richmond, Indiana, 1923.  Joe King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, cornet (c); Honore Dutrey, trombone (tb); Johnny Dodds, clarinet (cl); Lil Hardin, piano (p); Bill Johnson, banjo and vocal break (bj, voc break); Baby Dodds, drums (d)

Count along with Dippermouth Blues.  Are you counting 4 beats or 2 beats per measure?  Piano rags were usually counted in 2 beats a measure.  Does Dippermouth sound different from the Joplin rags we’ve heard?  Do the accompaniment patterns of the rhythm section stay constant for the entire piece?  This piece introduces stop-time, a repeated rhythmic accompaniment pattern that accents the downbeat of successive bars.  Stop-time can be performed in a variety of ways in a jazz group.  In this case, the rhythm section and accompanying musicians accent beats 1, 2, 3 and rest on 4.  This is usually done behind an improvising soloist.  Can you hear where this occurs in the song?  What are the second markings (00:00) for when the stop-time begins?  Why would the band play stop-time?  Does it enhance the soloist in any way?

In addition to this you should evaluate the DCF and compare with Book rate of return. In your response you should identify why you have chosen this particular investment criteria to evaluate the possible change and the relevance of the DCF. You should conclude with a recommendation of the course of action the company should follow.

Format should be a 1000-word academic report with use of charts and or graphs to present calculations.

more information is in the word document.

Read the  assignment specification carefully and tips.

Read the articles and watch the video in the learning material to understand the topic.

Please make the paper interesting.

You must give their individual learning journal a grade and convincingly justify why they deserve that grade. How would you justify including references or not? How would you justify the word count of each learning journal entry?

What is deserving of a HD for the individual learning journal? As Illiya says: Make us laugh, show genuine heart and have us think: WOW! I did not know that. DO NOT assign your work a HD unless it can demonstrate that. This is not a course where you can get a HD for just spelling your name correctly.
