Modify the existing HTML code so that it uses an external CSS file instead of inline CSS.

Start by creating a file called calendar.css and use the <link> tag in the header of calendar.html to link it to that page.

Then create CSS rules in calendar.css based on the style attributes of the HTML elements in calendar.html. Group the rules together based on elements class attributes and/or HTML element types, keeping the exact same styling rules.

When you are finished putting the CSS rules in calendar.css, delete the style attributes for all HTML elements in calendar.html and it should look the same.

Reflection Paper Topics with Grading Rubric
You will write a 1000-1500 word response to your chosen paper topic from the list below. See Course Outline for the due date.

This assignment is worth 300 points, or 30% of your grade.

DO NOT USE ANY SOURCES OTHER THAN THE DALRYMPLE ARTICLE AND YOUR TEXTBOOK, WHICH YOU WILL CITE USING MLA FORMAT.

YOU WILL ATTACH A FILE IN THE BOX AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE.

Learning Objectives:

Students will demonstrate their ability to construct arguments about issues of both personal and universal significance. Their writing should demonstrate that they can construct cogent, concise, and logically coherent arguments.

Assessment:

Students should demonstrate that they can distinguish the relevant points that form a logically coherent argument. They should also be able to construct criticisms which effectively undermine, through the use of appropriate counter-examples, some premise of that argument.

Your assignment is to read any ONE of the following four articles written by Theodore Dalrymple located in the final chapter of the required textbook:

The Frivolity of Evil
How and How Not to Love Mankind
What We Have to Lose
Roads to Serfdom
Then, FOR THE ARTICLE YOU CHOOSE TO WRITE ON, you will type a 1000-1500 word response in which you address EACH of the following points IN YOUR OWN WORDS: 1) What is the author’s main argument? 2) How does he support his main argument (evidence, ancillary arguments, etc.)? 3) Do you agree or disagree with him? 4) Why or why not? 5) Apply the insights of at least two of the readings we have studied in this course (in chapters 1-9) to your analysis. Make sure to give a substantive explanation of how the philosophers’ insights are relevant to the topic you are discussing.

A WORD OF WARNING: These articles are rather long and complex. The author likes to make extensive use of his rather copious vocabulary, so I strongly urge you to have dictionary.com handy as you work your way through your chosen article. The purpose of this essay assignment is for you to demonstrate your ability to discuss, analyze, and evaluate complex philosophic arguments. I am confident that the reading assignments, tests, and discussion boards will have prepared you for this final, and no doubt challenging, essay assignment.

Note: I only allow one attempt on this assignment. Students who do not fully address all of the components of the assignment as stated in the instructions as well as the grading rubric below will have to be content with the grade they earned.

Please use MLA format.

Your paper will be graded according to the following rubric:

Grading Rubric:
The following standards are numbered in order of importance for grading.

1.Essay demonstrates an understanding of the material: The student has correctly grasped a philosophical problem or question, has explained it accurately, and on the basis of a substantially correct interpretation of any texts involved. Key terms are used correctly. The essay shows evidence of the student’s independent thought, and is written in his or her distinctive voice. Short (one sentence) quotations are used (comprising no more than 10% of the body of the paper), when appropriate, to support the writer’s analysis, and an explanation is offered for each quotation. The use of block quotations will result in a severe point deduction.

95 points

2.Essay has clear and coherent argument: There is a clearly stated thesis, and support for this thesis in the body of the paper. Each paragraph contributes to this argument, and follows logically from the paragraph before it. The argument presented is persuasive. The insights of two other philosophers are incorporated into the analysis.

95 points

3.Essay fulfills assigned task: The essay addresses the entire assigned question or topic, elaborating on important ideas in satisfactory depth, but without bringing in anything extraneous or irrelevant. The introduction of the essay focuses and provides clarity for the paper. Important terms are clearly and accurately defined. Each paragraph conveys a coherent, organized thought. Short (one sentence) quotations are occasionally used, when appropriate, to support the writer’s analysis, and an explanation is offered for each quotation. No more than 10% of paper is made up of direct quotes. No block quotations.

40 points

4.Essay obeys standards for good persuasive writing: the writer shows that he or she is comfortable using philosophical language, and the prose is clear, not awkward. The structure of the sentences reflects the relationships between/among the ideas discussed.

40 points

5.Essay is technically correct: The essay has been carefully and thoughtfully proofread. The argument is written in complete sentences, with punctuation that does not mislead the reader. There are no mistakes in spelling, grammar, word choice, and punctuation.

You are thinking about this because there are times when some of your cleaning technicians know how to properly clean carpets and others do not. Providing a central knowledge repository could help share cleaning knowledge among your cleaning technicians.
After you chose your scenario (A or B), compose a paper that addresses the elements listed below.
Explain the role of knowledge management systems.
Explain what is meant by expert systems.
Explain what is meant by content management systems.
Discuss how the business in the selected scenario could benefit from an expert system and a content management system, and provide two examples for each type of system.

For this final assignment, you will demonstrate the knowledge you have gained in this class by reporting on the findings of the four exercises you have done throughout this class and then connecting those experiences to key themes from class. This final paper will be 5 to 6.5 pages (1200 to 1600 words) long and include citations to your textbook, at least one-course reading, and two-course videos.

To begin, you need to complete your Week 5 Exercise (see instructions below). Be sure to use and cite Bevan in your response, for any choice you make. Once you have completed the Week 5 Exercise, read the instructions below to learn how to complete the entire notebook.

Week 5 Exercise Instructions (choose one option):

Option 1: Social support

What type(s) of social support outlined in Bevan did you or they use?
What type of verbal and nonverbal cues were used to provide this support?
Was it appropriate for the situation and why?

Instructions for completing the Communication Notebook:

Japanese Civilians during WWII Origins and Others

Part 4: Origins and Others
In an essay of about 5-7 full paragraphs (4-5 sentences each):

Use reliable, scholarly sources from UMGC’s library to help you describe or tell your group’s origin story, its creation myth. Remember that this is myth, not history, so compose the creation story as such. In other words, mythologize the history of the group’s beginnings. It does not have to be true, but it should be rooted in some kind of actual historical event.
Include elements of creation myths that you discovered in Week 4’s Learning Resources and Discussions.
In your creation myth, include one or more of the group’s “others” whether they be monsters, villains, or enemies using some of the information you learned in Week 5’s Learning Resources. Against whom does your group define themselves and why? This “other” should have some roots in the actual history of the group. For instance, hackers might define themselves against cyber security experts, who could be made into an “other” in the story.

Carefully edit and proof your essay for standard use of English.

Disclaimer: I am African from Africa 😉

This assignment is designed to give you a chance to express your emotional reaction to this topic. Please provide a brief (150 – 250 word) response.

What is your reaction to the film Gone With the Wind?

Gone with the Wind was released in 1939,  just 74 years after the end of the Civil War. Meaning the events depicted in the movie were just as close in time to its initial audience as World War II is to contemporary movie audiences. Hugely popular with audiences, Gone with the Wind was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won eight. One of those awards went to Hattie McDaniel, an African American actress for her portrayal of a slave.

She became the first black person to win an Academy Award but had to sit at a table in the back of the room for the ceremony. The movie was such a commercial success that the studio re-released several times over the years. Adjusting for inflation, it remains the highest-grossing film in history.

To say that Gone with the Wind presents a romanticized view of slavery and life in the antebellum South would be an understatement. It is steeped in the mythology of the Lost Cause, which is why it is assigned viewing for this module. The movie is available from any of the online streaming services.

NOTE:
*Substantive sources include newspapers of record like the New York Times, Washington Post, major news sources and magazines. Scholarly sources include books, peer-reviewed articles from academic journals, and primary sources such as diaries or original government documents.

* Addresses question, is relevant to the topic, and draws upon assigned material.

*Also draws upon (and cites) at least one substantive or scholarly source beyond assigned material
