For this assignment, choose a current or former supervisor or subordinate and think carefully about how the concepts from the Johari Window and Transactional Analysis applies to this current or previous supervisor/subordinate relationship. Think carefully about the flow of information and communication between the two of you, and also times when either of you behaved as adults, parents, or children in your dealings with each other. Dont worry, this assignment will be purely between you and your instructor so feel free to be as honest and self-reflective as you can.

More specifically, write a 4- to 5-page paper answering the following questions below. Make sure to cite at least one of the required readings in each answer, and to cite at least three sources total from the background readings in your paper:

Using a Johari Window analysis, what do you think some of your supervisors or subordinates blind spots are? What do you think some of your potential blind spots might be?
Also using a Johari Window analysis, what kind of hidden spots did you keep between you and your supervisor or subordinate? Did you suspect your supervisor or subordinate of having hidden spots?
Based on your answers to Questions 1 and 2 above as well as the required readings, how might Johari Window analysis be used to improve this supervisor/subordinate relationship that you wrote about in the above two answers?
Using Transactional Analysis, give some specific examples of when you and your supervisor or subordinate acted like parents, children, or adults. And be honestwe all act like children sometimes in the workplace.
Based on your answer to Question 4 and the required readings, how do you think this supervisor/subordinate relationship might have been improved using Transactional Analysis?

1Possible formats include a written paper (600 words), a visual image(s), or a short video ( 3 mins. max).

The goal is to bring something new to a topic covered in this course not to simply restate or summarize a topic.  A simple way to do a project is to take an idea from the reading or lecture and add your own ideas to it. Another approach to a would be to do some independent research on an idea you had while reading/viewing course materials. Or you might discuss or illustrate how the material compares to your own experience. Perhaps youve seen an exhibition, movie, TV series, book, or website that illustrates a point covered in class. Maybe you have an observation or anecdote about an issue raised. The project can be written or visual. The idea is to demonstrate that youve done the reading/viewing, thought about it, and that youve developed something to contribute.

The second section (40% of the paper) will be related to your journal task. Over the course of the semester, your task with the journal is to record a minimum of 5 things for which you personally are grateful each day of the work week (Monday through Friday). Please use a fresh page for each day of the week. At the end of the week, you will take a photo of that weeks journal entries and upload the photo(s) to the appropriate Canvas assignment portal.
When it is time to write the second section of your paper, your personal journal will be your primary reference source. In this section, you will look back at the definitions and factors you described in the first part, and systematically evaluate how your own journaling experience did or did not relate to the social psychological literature. There are a number of ways to evaluate your journal, perhaps including word clouds or other data visualization techniques (ultra cool: http://www.dear-data.com/theproject). You may choose to use other ways to understand your gratitude observations.
The third section (10% of the paper) will be related to reflecting on the task of self-monitoring. This task creates your own personal social psychological experience because it intentionally alters the situation in which you find yourself. How has this situational modification changed the way you think about yourself and others? What moments were particularly powerful, problematic, or weak? Did you find your attitude with regard to the project changing across time, and, if so, in what ways?
