The book What I Didnt Learn in Business School describes the struggle of a student from a small town in Texas who was hired in a major consulting firm. Without any consulting experience, he joined an effort to help HGS Chemicals decide how to handle a major new product developed in their research labs. They are trying to develop a strategy that will be successful, using many of the concepts we have studied from the Rothaermel text.

In this paper, evaluate how well Justin has done.

First, each individual should write a paragraph about Justins performance. You can either describe one action you think Justin did well or describe something an action he could have done better (or not done at all). If you think he did something well, describe what he did and why you think he did well. If you think he did poorly, tell what you think he should have done instead, and why.

The group should discuss drafts of each of the paragraphs, and include the paragraphs in the paper after careful editing. After each of these paragraphs about Justin’s individual performance, include the name of the person primarily responsible for it in boldface.

Second, the last section of the paper should be written as a group. It should be an overall analysis of the performance of the consulting team and of Justin.  Did the team do a good job of understanding the possible strategic opportunity for Plastiwear and developing a strategy? Did Justin do a good job in contributing as the junior person on the team?

Support your arguments with facts from the What I Didnt Learn  book and theories from both What I Didnt Learn and the Rothaermel text.

The paper will not be evaluated based on length, but you should be able to accomplish this in 4 to 6 pages.

Write a 3,000-4,000 word research paper that examines a specific topic of sustainability in urban design in more detail. This topic can be expanded from one of your essay papers or you can choose something else entirely based on your interests or field of study as long as it can be connected to the class readings and discussions.

Be sure to answer the following questions:

1)    What is the issue? Be very clear about it.

Sustainable design practices have become a mainstream design intention.
However, some of the sustainable buildings gone wrong and failed their goals
When actually measured in post-occupancy assessments, theyve proven far less sustainable than their proponents have claimed.
How can the desire to increase sustainability actually result in its opposite?

2)    Why it is important? What is un-sustainable about this issue?

It is necessary to figure out why some of the sustainable architecture design failed and how to improve / prevent sustainable design. Architects needs to learn from the mistakes of more experienced colleagues in order to avoid repeating them and design against them.

3)    What barriers from social, ecological, and economical aspects that make this issue difficult to solve?

4)    Evaluate any available approaches to this issue, and the tensions / conflicts that these approaches may precipitate? Who are the winners and losers? How are the costs and benefits distributed?

5)    How does your discipline (Architecture) fit into this?

Be sure to reference the works cited and provide a detailed bibliography following APA standards. You should draw not only from the materials we have used all semester, but you should also cite additional sources. A good starting point for these additional sources is the References sections of the works we have read.
Be sure to articulate your ideas.
Be clear and concise in your argument and evidence you use to support your claims and ideas.

Requirement:

First, you must watch a speech.  You must take notes documenting your observations of the speaker.  You are to evaluate the speaker along the following criteria.  1.)  What are the speakers goals?  Are they evident in what He/She says?  2.)  In your opinion (based on the text and what we are learning in Communication 1), how effective do YOU think the speaker was in achieving those goals?  3.)  Did the speaker keep the audience in mind as He/She delivered the speech?  Did they maintain eye contact? In short, was this a good speech or a poor one?  Be specific and make sure both your notes and your paper provide concrete examples such as quotes.

Second, you must write a five page (typed), double spaced paper where you go through the speech you have watched in detail format.  The key word here is Analysis!  Analyze the speech be explaining what the speaker did.  Paper should be done in college format with title.  You must supply your notes to your finished paper which you can email to me.  Listed below you will find links to recorded speeches that I have vetted.  These speeches below have been selected because they have numerous shots of the audience so that you can discuss the respective speaker’s effect on the audience.

Here are the speeches you can choose from:

You will write a five page paper analyzing one of the following speeches.

1.)  President Barack Obama speaking at the 2016 White Correspondents Dinner.  As background,

The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) is an organization of journalists who cover the White House and the President of the United States. The WHCA was founded on February 25, 1914 by journalists in response to an unfounded rumor that a United States congressional committee would select which journalists could attend press conferences of President Woodrow Wilson.[4]

3.) in 1964, actor Ronald Reagan, was asked by Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater to give a speech on all three national broadcast networks in support of the “Goldwater for President” campaign.  The speech was unsuccessful in the sense that Goldwater lost the 1964 election to President Lyndon B. Johnson.  However, the speech was a huge success in the sense that it launched the political career or Reagan.  Soon after this speech, a group of businessmen in Southern California met with Reagan and persuaded the actor to run for Governor of California in 1966.  Reagan easily defeated two term incumbent Governor Pat Brown and served eight years as California’s Governor.  Later, in 1980, Reagan defeated incumbent President Jimmy Carter to become the nation’s 40th President of the United States.  Here is the link to the speech that launched Reagan’s political career and the modern conservative movement in the United States.

Using United Airlines, find its most current annual financial information. Then, in an essay of 200300 words, analyze the figures you found, noting trends and relationships. For example, you might find a company with high costs (CASM) and low fares (yield), resulting in a very high BLF (near 1.0). A high BLF will put pressure on marketing to keep seats filled. Another company might have PRASM less than CASM; meaning ancillary revenue (like baggage fees) will be very important to maintaining a profit. Make note of how the Airline is faring during the pandemic.
