Instruction

In this space you will be provided with a resource on triple entry journals and how to apply them in your classes and an article on a framework for reflective practice.

Learning outcome
By the end of this module you will have
used the journal activity on Moodle to create a triple entry journal to identify significant points and a persisting question from the article “The pedagogical balancing act: teaching reflection in higher education” (Ryan, 2013) and explained how the points and question are significant.
Triple Entry Journal
A Triple Entry Journal is a tool, an activity or assessment task, that helps students learn critical reading skills.
To learn more about a Triple Entry Journal, what it is, why it is important, and how to incorporate it in your classes, please read Triple-Entry Note Taking by the Office of Teaching, Learning, & Technology at the University of Iowa (n.d.)
We will ask you to complete an abbreviated version of the Triple Entry Journal (without columns) in the next tab.

A framework for reflective practice
In the article The pedagogical balancing act: teaching reflection in higher education, Mary Ryan (2013) argues that every level of reflection must be taught and students that do not move through each level will have gaps in their reflections.

–    complete a triple entry journal by posting your responses to the following tasks in the Triple Entry Journal on “The pedagogical balancing act: teaching reflection in higher education” (linked below)
1. Summary: Write 5-6 sentences that will sum up the article.

2. Reflect and Respond: Write 2-3 salient points from the article that strike you as significant. While these may be citations, they should not be a summary. We would like to know more about your interest in NYU. What motivated you to apply to NYU? Why you have applied or expressed interest in a particular campus school college program and or area of study? If you have applied to more than one please also tell us why you are interested in these additional areas of study or campuses. We want to understand why NYU?

Select a psychoactive drug that is of pharmacological interest to you, but not one you will review as part of your Critical Review or one that was included in your previous Rapid Reviews.( do not choose the drug Haldol or the pharmacology of Alcohol)

For this paper, you may choose drugs of abuse; however, the paper must focus on the pharmacology of the drug and not on the social or addictive aspects.  If you focus on addiction and social impact, your paper will not receive credit.

In addition to the text, research a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles published within the last five years on your selected drug. Prepare a three-page summary of the drug using the PSY630 Rapid Review Example paper (Links to an external site.) as a guide.
In your Rapid Review, analyze and explain the pharmacological aspects of the drug as they relate to the following: neurotransmitters affected, receptors, route of administration, half-life, doses, side effects, drug interactions, contraindications, and other important facets of the drug. Explain these aspects of the drug in terms of the psychiatric disorders indicated for the drug and the issue(s) associated with that use. If there is no accepted therapeutic use for the drug, evaluate and describe the actions of the drug with regard to the abuse process.

The paper:

Must be three to five double-spaced pages in length, excluding title page and references page, and it must be formatted according to APA style
Must include a title page with the following:
Title of paper
Your name
Course name and number
Your instructors name
Date submitted
Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
Must use at least three peer-reviewed sources in addition to the text.
Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style
Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.) for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

When you decide to purchase a new car, you first decide what is important to you. If mileage and dependability are the important factors, you will search for data focused more on these factors and less on color options and sound systems.

The same holds true when searching for research evidence to guide your clinical inquiry and professional decisions. Developing a formula for an answerable, researchable question that addresses your need will make the search process much more effective. One such formula is the PICO(T) format.

In this Discussion, you will transform a clinical inquiry into a searchable question in PICO(T) format, so you can search the electronic databases more effectively and efficiently. You will share this PICO(T) question and examine strategies you might use to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on your PICO(T) question.

To Prepare:

Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
Review the materials offering guidance on using databases, performing keyword searches, and developing PICO(T) questions provided in the Resources.
Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least two different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.
Review the Resources for guidance and develop a PICO(T) question of interest to you for further study. It is suggested that an Intervention-type PICOT question be developed as these seem to work best for this course

Post a brief description of your clinical issue of interest. This clinical issue will remain the same for the entire course and will be the basis for the development of your PICOT question. Describe your search results in terms of the number of articles returned on original research and how this changed as you added search terms using your Boolean operators. Finally, explain strategies you might make to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on your PICO(T) question. Be specific and provide examples.

Are you a lifelong learner?  what do you hope you will be learning about, and in what ways will you still be growing as a person? Explain.
Do you hold, or have you held, assumptions about the elderly? Has your learning this week helped dispel those assumptions? If so, which ones? Why is it vital to dispel such assumptions and never give up on yourself or your learners no matter how old?
How might these insights impact your current or future practice as an adult educator?

Use 8 scholarly references

you are asked to illustrate your strategy in providing reinforcement to a learner,

First, select a skill of interest different than that chosen in the last assignment
Second, explain the learner’s ability, experience, and learning situation
Third, find and summarize two peer-reviewed journal articles (one-page review + APA reference per article). One article supports your thoughts on the importance of reinforcement, and the second article provides the application of goal-setting principles.
Fourth, identify:
Three external reinforcers you could use
Three vicarious reinforcers you could apply/recommend
Three internal reinforcers you will nurture
Three negative reinforcers that may be used
Three punishments that are frequently used
Conclude your presentation with a one-page explanation of how you will teach this skill using the reinforcers identified: the order, frequency, and type of rewards. Include the possibility for temporary failure and corresponding reinforcement as well.

Remember, APA in-text documentation and end references are required.
