Write a summary-response essay to “A Short History of American Immigration.”

In his discussion of American immigration, Gordon explains that the arrival of large groups of immigrants has often caused opposition to immigration in various forms. In your essay, explain some reasons for past and present anti-immigrant sentiments in the United States.

There are many possible reasons for anti-immigrant feelings, and you should write about two or three of them. You may use ideas that you have learned from all the readings we have done so far in this course, our class discussions, the information you have learned in other courses, information you have learned from the news,  and/or your personal experience.

*  The introduction of your essay should start with a summary of the article. You should summarize in your own words and include the name of the author and the title of the reading in quotation marks. The summary should include the topic and main idea of the article.
*    Your thesis should clearly state two or three reasons for anti-immigrant sentiment in the US. It should be the last sentence of the introduction.
*    Each body paragraph should discuss one reason.  You should identify the reason in your topic sentence, explain it, and then give an example or details from the article and/or your experience.
*    Your conclusion should restate the main point of your essay and end with a comment that will make the readers think more about this subject.
* The content should be your ideas or ideas from other readings, not from external research
*    Use academic language, a variety of sentence types, correct sentence structure, correct verb tense and word form, and correct basic punctuation and spelling. Use your word processor’s “review” feature to help you edit and do a word count.

The aim of this part of the assessment is for you to apply and integrate the theories, models and concepts from this course by articulating the evidence-base to support your recruitment and selection strategy, considering implementation issues and to further develop your business writing skills by presenting your recommendation as a report to a senior stakeholder.

In this assignment, you will take on the role of an HR consultant reporting to me, as the Principal Consultant of our MGTS7612 consulting business. You will present a detailed and evidenced based recommendation to me, as your manager, for the recruitment and selection strategy you have previously presented to your colleagues. Not every manager would expect this level of justification, but I place particular importance on the application of evidence based practice.

You will be seeking approval to initiate the recruitment and selection strategy as you have designed it on behalf of your client organisation. Your recommendation will be structured as a report, and will include a critical analysis drawing on the academic literature to explain and justify your choices of tools to be used in recruitment and selection and the overall process to come to a final decision about the successful applicant. You will need to describe specifically and in depth why and how you will use each recruitment tool to attract or source a targeted candidate pool and how you will use each selection tool to inform your decision making process.  Your Position Description and at least one job advertisement, revised using all previous feedback, MUST be included as an appendix.

Clear and concise written communication is an important skill to develop and hone. A template is attached with guidance on the required sections. The word limit is 2000 words (excluding references, appendices, up to three tables with minimal text and the executive summary).  Appendices must be referenced in-text, presented in order of that reference, and clearly necessary for you to present your recommendation.

In order to argue for your strategy with evidence from current research on recruitment and selection, you must use a minimum of ten (10) good quality, peer reviewed journal articles to support your arguments.  At least seven (7) of these must be drawn from the resources list provided. You may also draw on other good quality sources as appropriate but avoid references to text books and other random, irrelevant papers you may find on the Internet.  All sources must be cited correctly and included in a reference list according to the Academy of Management Journal (AMJ) referencing style.

Please note that aside from the quality of the references, what is most important is how you use the evidence from these sources to justify your recruitment and selection strategy. This involves comparing and contrasting alternate perspectives and choosing options that most suit the job and the organisation that you are working with.

Gender Essay

Feminists or gender critics argue that the unavenged death of the woman Clytemnestra in Aeschylus’ Oresteia begins the literary journey for female characters as less worthy.  In the trilogy, Clytemnestra is killed by her son, Orestes, for killing his father.  But her murderer son is allowed to go home to Argos.  Our text tells us “More important than the arguments employed in the trial and the decision reached by the judges is the fact of the court’s establishment.  This is the end of an old era and the beginning of a new.  The existence of the court is a guarantee that the tragic series of events which drove Orestes to the murder of his mother will never be repeated” (251).    Feminists beg to differ.  Why not allow the unavenged death to be that of a male?    Our text also states, “[t]he system of communal justice, which allows consideration of circumstance and motive, and which punishes impersonally, has at last replaced the inconclusive anarchy of individual revenge” (251).  How is the decision to allow Orestes to be acquitted impersonal or ladened with gender messages?

ESSAY MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1.    Correctly integrate quotes into your answer using the attached copy of Aeschylus Oresteia. http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks07/0700021h.html  (Please only use the provided web link information as a source. DO NOT use any other sources)
2.    Must be 450 or more words.
