Opening Vignette Exercise :  (page 49)

The opening vignette describes how Abercrombie & Fitch engaged in creative recruiting to fill sales jobs with  candidates who matched the companys carefully constructed marketing image. The high-profile clothing retailer  staffed its stores with good-looking, young white men and women, and touched off a lawsuit that ultimately cost  the company $40 million and a barrage of bad publicity.

In 300 words, answer the following questions:

Do you think Abercrombie should be allowed to staff its stores in a way that reinforces its marketing image? Why or why not?
What are some alternative ways Abercrombie can staff its stores legally and still project a desirable image?

Upload your assignment in Dropbox. Remember to always identify your source of information correctly using the APA format.

For your response paper, you will write an essay approx 2100- 2500 words on the following: Argue for or against the
following thesis using specific sociological concepts (which you clearly define) and evidence (from both the textbook and Bb
readings):
“Herein lies the fundamental theme of sociology: that everyday social life–our thoughts, actions,
feelings, decisions, interactions, and so on–is the product of a complex interplay between societal
forces and personal characteristics. In order to explain why people are the way they are, we must
understand the social, historical, cultural, and organizational environments they inhabit. Neither
individuals nor society can be understood without understanding both” (David Newman, Sociology:
Exploring the Architecture of Everyday Life)

Please read chapter 6 and review power points.
1- Please summarize any two cases in the chapter. (Cases begin Page 116)
2-Research a recent high profile criminal case (actor, athlete, mogul etc.) summarize the case history and current standing in 2 paragraphs.  Cite at least 2 references.
3- Research the OJ Simpson Murder cases.  Summarize the proceedings in two paragraphs. Explain how OJ can be acquitted for the crime of murder, but found liable in the civil trial? (2 Paragraphs)

All cases must be summarized in the format provided in below.  All portions of the assignments must be separated by number in paragraphs.

C. HOW THE LAW WAS APPLIED IN THIS CASE

D. CONCLUSION OF THE COUR

1) Choose a topic: Choose a public health problem that you would like to investigate. Briefly state the health issue.

2) Research the topic: Read general background information about your topic using reliable websites such as those belonging to a federal agency (e.g., Health Services and Resources Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Bureau of Primary Health Care), respected national organization (e.g., American Heart Association, American Cancer Association, Kaiser Family Foundation), and/or peer-reviewed journal articles.

3) Document Prevalence and/or Incidence: Find and write the prevalence or incidence of the condition using one or more of your reliable websites or articles. Cite the source for the prevalence or incidence next to it.

4) Hypothesize: Considering what you have learned about the health issue you’ve chosen, consider the possible risk factors for the condition, means of prevention, and potential outcomes. Write a carefully considered hypothesis about one risk factor or means of prevention (this is the “exposure) that you could test which has not, based on what you read, been widely studied.

5) Design your study: Once you have your hypothesis, design a study that you could do to test your hypothesis.  Imagine that time, money, and logistics are unlimited and you have all the resources you need at your disposal.  Include the following information:

5a. Who are your study participants?

5b. How would you collect or obtain your data?

5c. What time of study design would you use? (e.g., cohort, case-control, observational, or randomized control trial)

5d. Why is this design (your answer to 5c) an appropriate study design for your study?

5e. Into which category of study design does your study design fall? (experimental, quasi-experimental, observational)

5f. What elements of your study justify inclusion into the category of study design you wrote for 5d? (e.g., is there manipulation? randomization?)

To begin improving your understanding of experimental design, first visit the following websites, read the page contents (all quick reads!), and watch the videos:

In your initial post, begin by defining these terms in your own words based on the above readings (give examples if it helps you to explain): positive control, negative control, randomization, experimental blinding, placebos, markers, and surrogates.

Then, check out the following article on Science Daily about the health benefits of eating crickets: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/08/180803134654.htm

(and if you’re convinced, here’s a link to some sweet ones: https://www.amazon.com/Hotlix-Assorted-Cricket-Sucker-Lollipop/dp/B00SZ8W5PW)

You will need to reference this article as well as the following images in order to complete the discussion post this week.

Here are some of the elements of study design included in the actual research article. You are encouraged (but not required) to actually check out the article itself, as it is posted in a PDF version on this week’s D2L contents.

To complete your post this week, answer the following questions:

1. Did these scientists have controls set up, and how do you know? If so, what were the controls, and do you think they were they good controls (& why)? Would you have added anything else?

2. Was the experiment a fair comparison? How do you know? Why is it important to include this feature in scientific experiments?

3. The researcher who designed this study thinks that insects taste pretty good, according to the Science Daily article. Does this make her biased in the experiment? Can you identify any ways that bias was addressed in this study, and do you think it was properly addressed? Explain, and add anything else that you might have done if this were your experiment.

4. Did this study include obvious surrogates or markers? Identify them and explain how you recognized those in the experimental design. Would you have done this differently, and how? Explain.

5. Have you ever heard of beneficial bacteria? What is the microbiome? Microbiota? How do these influence human health?

6. Are you convinced that eating crickets is good for your health, and would you now consider eating them? Would you recommend it to a friend? Explain.

Watch James MacGregor Burns on Leadership.
Referencing the video and your textbook readings for this week, write an essay in which you:
Comment on how watching and listening to a primary, conceptual developer of the transformational leadership theory has enhanced your understanding of this approach in its underpinnings as well as the breadth and scope of its application.
In particular, discuss the aspects of intended change and lasting change.
How might you, as a leader, use aspects of this theory in your leadership practice?
Support your ideas with detailed examples or evidence from the video, your textbook, or a peer-reviewed journal
Your essay should be 23 pages in length and follow APA formatting and citation.

My topic for this annotated bibliography will be about climate change, specifically, whether renewable energy is a better solution to reducing co2 emissions compared to fossil fuels. This essay requires ten sources to be cited along with the summary for each. the sources chosen for this assignment will be later used for my research paper.
