Hidden History Paper: The field of history, like the field of education, is open to new interpretations as cultures, voices, and scientific studies changes our understanding of the larger world. As such, there are historical areas of higher education that merit further exploration and engagement. As such, this assignment will ask you to propose an area of historical exploration that you feel would benefit existing dialogues about the history of the field. You may choose to think of areas such as personnel that worked on campus that may not have had their history explored or to focus on the role that certain courses played in the history of education. You could choose to focus on alumni populations that are understudied or look at products aimed at educators in history. Whatever your choice, you will write up a 10 page (excluding citations and cover pages) proposal arguing that this element is understudied in the canons of the history of higher education. In determininga topic of interest as a form of hidden history, you should cite as one source the text from this class, even if it is just to point out elements that this book ignored. The instructor will provide feedback and possible other sources for this final paper as part of a discussion topic. Papers will be evaluated on their persuasiveness of the topic of relevance, accurate grammar and structure, and their connection and awareness of current studies occurring in the field of historical examinations of education. I will be doing my paper on the topic of considerations of colonial education. My teacher have given some readings that could help support my topic such as:

I’m obtaining my barber license and I need to write an “emotional” letter to the state regarding the need to be granted in order for me to get my state license.

Some things to put on the letter are: I haven’t being able to obtain a job in the barber industry because of COVID 19 and because I don’t have a license.
*I have kids to maintain and struggling to support them*
*I don’t have money to pay for the barber school*
*I have years of experience*
*My English is not at its best so its difficult for me to do the written test*
To consider this letter in order to make “emotional to grant me a license*

Comparative Film Analysis

In your first two essays you identified, analyzed, interpreted and discussed specific cinematic elements that combine together to create a film viewing experience. In so doing, you focused your attention on an extremely narrow aspect of a single film. This time, however, you will focus your attention on the similarities and/or differences between two or more texts, at least one of which is a film, and develop an argument about how these similarities and/or differences give insight to a specific director, social environment, or the texts themselves.

To begin this work, you must first select an approach from those that we read in The Art of Watching Films and discussed in class and then select the film(s) you wish to consider with this approach.

Specifically, Chapter 11: Directors Style explains Auteur Theory and how an analysis of similarities among a specific directors works can illuminate that directors personality or philosophy as expressed through the language of film. If you choose to work with this approach, choose at least three films from a single directors oeuvre (complete works) so that the similarities you identify are apparent and consistent. You might, for instance, choose to study how Alfred Hitchcock uses the same character types (the beautiful, yet emotionally cold blonde female, the man with the mistaken identity, or the overbearing mother) in many of his films, or how Steven Spielberg uses innocent children or fascist enemies consistently, or how Stanley Kubrick uses similar cinematography (the slow zoom in and zoom out) in his films, or how Robert Zemeckis uses the theme of manipulating the past to suit the demands of the present in his films.

Chapter 13: Adaptations discusses another approach you can take with this essay. With this approach, you will discuss a film based on another work, usually literary, and analyze how the film version differs from the original. You might, for instance, discuss how the physical appearance or personality of Dracula differs from the novel to one of the film versions, or you might examine why the film version of Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf? adds a few scenes that the play does not possess and what these additions do to the narrative, or you might look at how the graphic novel V for Vendettas timeframe of the 1980s changes to a post 9/11 world in the film version and what this change implies.

Chapter 14: Genre Films, Remakes and Sequels discusses yet three more approaches that you can take with this essay. With these approaches you will look at the similarities and/or differences in how films use similar themes, plots or characters. You might, for instance, analyze how representations of Native Americans in westerns have developed through different decades, or you might observe how giant monster movies tend to reflect a particular social concern of the time and place they were made, or you might identify a previously unidentified genre and discuss the similarities that the films within this genre exhibit and to what purpose, or you might analyze how the 1974 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre differs from the 2003 remake in the methods it uses to evoke horror and what these differences might say about viewers.

As you can see, the possible topics for this essay are limitless, but remember, the essay must have a clearly defined argument that needs to exhibit more thought and analysis than simply listing differences or similarities between works.

Basic requirements for this essay are as follows. Its minimum length is 7-9 pages, not including the Works Cited page. It must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman (or similar standard font) and follow MLA documentation style. (would preferably like to compare two movies about religion like “The Nun” and “The Exorcist” or “Lord Of The Rings” or whatever/ both can be film)

I need 3-4 sentences each responding to these two discussion post. Either agreeing or disagreeing or giving more information on what their discussion post says. (2 responses)

1.Marijuana

Draw parallels among the various scientific and medical studies on marijuana.  What do they suggest?
Research has stated that the extreme use of marijuana can lead to symptoms of bronchitis, wheezing, or coughing. Smoking a little has shown little risk. A research study on marijuana found that smoking a joint a day for 7 years did not show any correlations with issues in pulmonary functions (Pletcher MJ, Vittinghoff E, Kalhan R, et al., 2012). Marijuana can increase heart rates and volume of blood pumped through the heart. Most risks are towards older users who have previous issues with cardiac or other health problems. Marijuana has its health risks, but is considered a lower risk than other drugs like tobacco, heroin and so on.

Is marijuana addictive?  Explain.
Marijuana doesn’t have addicting factors like other drugs. It does not share the same withdrawal experiences. But it does interact with pleasure zones in the brain and can create psychological dependence which may be an issue to break. Some withdrawal symptoms may include issues with sleeping, anxiety, or irritability. These are described to be mild. The Institute of Medicine, the health arm of the National Academy of Sciences, said in a 1999 study that 32 percent of tobacco users become dependent, as do 23 percent of heroin users, 17 percent of cocaine users, and 15 percent of alcohol drinkers. But only 9 percent of marijuana users develop a dependence (Boffey, 2014).

Discuss the use of medical marijuana.
In 1985, it was used to help treat nausea for patients going through cancer treatment. The FDA approved oral THC (Hart, C. L. and Ksir, C., 2018). It was used to help stimulate appetites in patients with AIDS. Medical marijuana was used for therapeutic used to help with post-traumatic stress disorder, seizure control, and other mental health disorders. While smoking has its risk for lung and pulmonary issues, consuming edibles can have risks too. Consuming too much cannabis can create a cannabis induced psychosis with paranoia, confusion and hallucinations. In older people, this can lead to cardiac events. It is important to use the correct dose of marijuana medically, or even recreationally.

What do you think about the movement to legalize marijuana in America?  Explain.
Personally, THC itself has never been something I enjoyed medically or recreationally. My body reacts very sleepy and I do not feel like I am in full focus or control. I do prefer THC and CBD infused products to help me sleep or relaxing at the end of the day. There are products like oils, gummies and suckers which have low mgs inside that are therapeutic. I do not like smoking marijuana. I really like CBD products for anxiety support. I think it should be legalized for medical purposes and people should be responsible when they choose to use the drug. For example, not being high while working or driving. I have noticed many people in my life who are always high and I find it hard to understand how someone can constantly be high. I wonder how it affects them and how it benefits them. I personally can’t be high like that. Like any altering drug or product, it should be regulated. I think the age 21 is appropriate for marijuana. If a person under 21 needs it for medical purposes, I think it would be good for them to seek a doctor’s consent for this. Overall, Cannabis can be a very beneficial substance in many areas of mental and physical issues.

2. The typical opioid abuser has changed from the early 1900s to the present/ here is the evolution of that change. the typical opioid abuser in the early 1900s were middle-aged white women between the ages of 30 to 50 years old(Hart, Ksir 2018). It was considered mommy’s little helper and she was well adjusted in society. She often needed help dealing or coping with the stresses of parenthood. Then the Harrison act made the population of middle-aged white people decline. Now the typical abuser is done with prescription opioids and the youngest is 12 years old and older. Roughly 1.4 million Americans aged 12 and older reported using prescription opioids not related to pain(Hart, Ksir, 2018).  Sometimes these abusers needed the medication for pain and unfortunately get addicted to the pain killer and continue taking them.

The current medical uses for opioids include: pain relief of moderate to severe pain, relaxing the body, treating coughing, diarrhea, feelings of relaxation, and a high (2020, July 24).

If a person were to become addicted to any kind of opioid they will experience withdrawal symptoms should they stop ingesting the opioid. These symptoms are muscle pain, bone pain, sleep problems, diarrhea, vomiting, cold flashes with goosebumps, uncontrollable leg movements, severe cravings(2020, July 24).

Since opioids can cause the body to relax the muscles that are responsible for breathing cut oxygen off to the brain. The body loses control over the muscles for breathing. Since the brain needs oxygen to function this asphyxiates the brain causing a coma, permanent brain damage, or death(Ksir, Hart 2018).
