In an interview with Rosanna Greenstreet, Lang Lang points out the destructive quality of the way his father raised him and forced him to excel. Lang claims in the end that he would have been successful without the forceful parenting his father provided. However, even though research has shown some poor mental health effects from “tiger parenting,” memoirist Kim Wong Keltner, in an interview with writer Yasmin Anwar,  claims to still believe that some aspects of that parenting style — the same style Lang experienced — are worth retaining.

For this paper, address the following question:

While Lang Lang’s father may have made a few mistakes, was he right or wrong for pushing his son to achieve such outstanding success?

For this essay, you must refer to the articles by Greenstreet and Anwar, but you may also make use of any chapter we’ve read from Outliers up to now

Format

Your paper should be at least FOUR complete pages in length (even one line less than four pages is too short), double-spaced, with one-inch margins top, bottom and both sides.

In this weeks discussion, you received feedback on a tentative thesis statement and MEAL plan paragraph for your paper. For this assignment, you will submit revised versions of your thesis and MEAL plan paragraph for feedback from your instructor. Be sure to follow APA guidelines when citing your source for the Evidence portion of the paragraph.

Then, following your working thesis statement, provide your revised MEAL plan paragraph based on the feedback you received from the discussion. Be sure to follow APA guidelines when citing your source for the Evidence portion of the paragraph.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

One reason business students look at history and case studies is the chance to reflect on the facts of the case, determine the causes of a (regrettable) action, and through analysis make a recommendation regarding the policies and procedures that would have prevented such a disaster. To start the course, we will look at the 2007-2009 financial disaster. The actions leading up to the crises were not illegal at the time. Yet, in retrospect, they were unethical because the actions were unfair, lacked accountability and transparency, and held few responsible for any negative outcomes.

Financial institutions in the U.S. had governmental pressure to provide loans to potential homeowners. That pressure was intense enough such that lenders were lax on determining whether the borrowers could pay back those loans. At the same time, the availability of mortgages led to an increase in the cost of real estate, leading many investors to choose real estate investment funds. Typically, there are agencies that value all types of investment funds to determine the safety of the funds. Those rating agencies and government regulators did not assess the risk in these shady loans.

“The sad truth is that societies that demand whistleblowers be martyrs often find themselves without either, and always when it matters most.” ~ Edward Snowden

Assume that you work for one of the organizations that was the subject of the whistleblower complaint (see below). The directors of the organization want to eliminate the barriers to reporting issues, address concerns immediately, and thus avoid future embarrassing and costly whistleblower claims. In a 1-2 page paper, give a very brief overview of the matter, identify barriers to whistleblowing in the organization, and ways to overcome those barriers. Determine whether competition played a role in the unethical behavior or hindered potential whistleblowers. Give your recommendations for an updated whistleblower policy.

Read the following articles, and select the organization you want to focus on.

Officer Williams asked the neighborhood’s regular trash collector to put the content of the defendant’s garbage that was left on the curb in plastic bags and to turn over the bags to him at the end of the day. The trash collector did as the officer asked in order to not mix the garbage once he collected the defendant’s garbage. Then, Officer Williams’ partner, Officer Martinez, searched through the garbage and found items indicative of narcotics use. Officer Williams and Officer Martinez then recited the information that was obtained from the trash in an affidavit in support of a warrant to search the defendant’s home. Officer Martinez and Officer Williams encountered the defendant at the house later that day upon execution of the warrant. The officers found quantities of cocaine and heroin during the search and arrested the defendant on felony narcotics charges.

Write a 1- to 2-page paper in which you:

Identify the constitutional amendment that would govern Officer Williams’ and Officer Martinez’ actions.
Analyze the validity and constitutionality of the officers’ actions.
Assess if the officers’ actions were justified under the doctrines of plain view, abandonment, open fields, or border searches. Support your response by citing specific case law and/or contemporary cases.
